reference to FFVII?

if you go to the weapon shop in lindblum and talk to the guy looking at the weapons near the wall hes looking at a pretty big sword and he says something like "i heard this sword was once used by a guy with spiky hair." think hes talking about cloud?
 
Yeah it's kinda like an easter egg with reference to cloud
A few other ff's have reference as well
 
M'hmmm its definatly a reference to FFVII. the other one comes right at the end when in the play Zidane goes

"no cloud, not squall shall hinder us"

but that ones the really obvious one :P
 
WOW i didnt notice that, im gonna go beat IX now so i can see. that thank you for pointing that out

Heh... I got that one my first time playing it. I saw that and said, "Hey, that's a reference to VII and VIII!" However, I had to point it out to Bustersword07, who had beaten it about 3-5 times before me. I can't believe he didn't catch that!

See, I've heard of this so many times but I've never read that line at all. I think the world is lying to me =\
FFIX is littered with tons of references to previous FF's, as it was seen as the send off FF before it went on to PS2. A lot of old names come back in it.
 
That line in the weapons shop is hilarious, one of my favourite sly references in the game to other games in the series.

As for this topic, I've seent that line each time I've played the game so far. Nice references as is similar for all the other references that FFIX makes to past FF games.
 
I love how SE makes little refrences like this, the names Biggs and Wedge also seem to be very popular in the serries.

Why? What happens in FFX2? Are there connections to other FF agmes in there? And dont say X cause that doesnt count cause thats X2 is its sequel.


But yeah I liked the reference to Cloud in a weapon shop.
Something like "I know a spikey haired guy who had the same sword!"
 
There is one bit in FFX-2, near the end where you talk to Shinra and he talks of an energy in the Farplane which could be possibly used to power cities and machina. He bemoans the fact it would take centuries for it to happen though. There's more than a hint there of Lifestream and Midgar (a city powered by Lifestream) etc - the fact he's called Shinra is probably more than coincidental too.

:O connection much? anyway i like the random references in FFIX especially the Star Wars " anger leads to hate...." one XD
