Hi. Well im new obviously, but this forum really makes it difficult for the casual reader to go through it all. Such as Costa del Sol and Sleeping Forest and Midgar.

Just confusing and seemingly random ff locales which dont seem to be related. im having trouble gowing through it al and find what i want. I know eventually i will get used to that. But it really shouldnt have to be that way. Thats like getting used to your roommate for being messy.

I suggest we give simple "straught-to-the-point" subject names so it can be easier to navigate.

Under the names of the sections there's all the sub-sections/forums that have their own description. That makes it easier to navigate. For example,

Costa Del Sol holds;
[h=4]Sub-Forums:[/h]
  • subforum_new-48.png
    Spam Coliseum,
  • subforum_new-48.png
    The Meeting Room,
  • subforum_new-48.png
    Study Hall,
  • subforum_new-48.png
    Computing & Technology

It says right below it, which is pretty straight to the point. That should make it a bit easier for you to navigate. =]

Imagine how dull it would be if it was just "General Chat. Serious Discussions. Entertainment Shit. Art. Photoshop" - some creativity works wonders.

Literally the first time this has ever been mentioned in 6 years. :wacky:

Creativity is good..but when has it ever been needed? I think we can make things more blunt. For one why name them "midgar" or "sleeping forest" or "costa del sol". It could be much easier. (That and im writing this on a mobile phone and the description is squished).

when I first joined I was confused for about an hour and then I got used to it.
I agree they don't really make much sense like why is Midgar the news and entertainment section haha but who really cares lmfao.

Once you get used to it it does't matter and it just becomes second nature.
Give it some time.

They're named the way they are since it's a Final Fantasy Forum. Giving the topics creative names from the FF games and locales seems to me like a logical choice. Also, it isn't a "messy roommate" situation; what each forum entails is directly under it's name.

I'm with @Kerrigan on this one. Having them blunt or dull names takes some of the charm away from the forum.

It might also help if you weren't look at the forum on a mobile phone. :awesome:

I'd like to see the majority's response. :hmmm: I wouldn't mind reorganizing a bit, although nothing major as the FF theme has always been there since 2006, and for some, the FF-related section has its appeal. I do understand how newbies may feel about the whole thing at first glance though. Maybe we can think of something that can be more user-friendly but also doesn't take away the 'charm' (as MagicMasher puts it) for old members.

I find the "charm" to be cute but overrated. Ff locales (more ff7 locales) seem like a cool idea on the main page...but it really is difficult to follow.

The only sections that arent separated are the RP sections.

They all have descriptions of what the board contains, most of our new visitors would be visiting on a pc or laptop not on a mobile device so they'd see the descriptions. You'd be hard pressed to find any forum that doesn't have themed board names

In the same vein, blunt and general naming of the forum sections is bland and unattractive. In my opinion, the fact that there are descriptions for the sections (that are easily visible on a normal PC) doesn't really leave much room for complaint. Also, actually taking the time to think of creative names for the sections shows actual care.

If anything is going to change, I do not think it should be just bland, general names like you are suggesting. If anything, do what Mitsuki is saying.

Temple of the Ancients (For all your issues and problems related to life, love and everything that comes with it) - Cloister of Trials or even better, Citadel of Trials (FFI).

Guadosalam (Place for introductions) - Balamb Garden or Dormitory

Midgar - Entertainment Central (taken from Mognet Central) or Entertainment Quad (FF8 reference - "The western corridor leads to the quad. The quad is an open-air garden, and a place for students to relax. It also has a stage where students can watch performances or films." Though Entertainment Central might be better.

Few things I can think of at the top of my head.

not vague one's. Maybe like Clouds "Sports and Entertainment" section. Gabranth's "politics section" or such...might be better. And from all the ff forums i been browsing this is the only one that does it. Heck even KH forum or Dragon Quest

i don't really see why we should change what thousands of members have been used to for several years now just for one member because he can't be bothered to familiarise himself with the forum. you wouldn't go to a new city and demand they start moving shops and buildings around just because you don't know where to find them.

I would if i knew it was as easy as re orgzanizing a forum layout.

Theres nothing wrong with my proposal. It will make things a hundred times easier and the older users will get used to it 10 times faster then it does for a newbie t get used to it.

i still don't see why the needs of the few (in this case one) outweigh the needs of the many. this forum has been around for six years, and you're the first person to have ever had this problem. instead of spending your time complaining about what's wrong, you could just spend it getting used to the forum.

The place is already fine as it is. As others have said if you were not using a mobile the layout would be fine, though one problem you may be having is the skin your using. Cause I use a mobile phone to access this place at times as well, there is a skin default for the mobile phone. Using that I have no problem with this place except the top portion. Everyone has pointed out that there is a description of what each forum section is about, all you have to do is take the time and read it. Also as many have said this is a FF forum so having theme related forum names for this makes sense. Just because all the other ones you went to do not use themed names, that does not make us in the wrong for doing so. It is just not what you are used to seeing.

Well I wouldnt mind seeing different names for the sections as well.
Religious could be perhaps something about Fayth (FFX)
Maybe different FF titles should be involved and not only the so highly overrated FFVII!

Simple names meh that would indeed take away the charm. but a renewal or refreshment I would welcome :)

It's confusing at first but you get used to it (even if I still get lost trying to find a specific sub forum). No need to change what's already there since it takes time to get used to a forum's layout.
