[RP] Final Fantasy IX: Scars of Terra

Annelise Steiner

"I know not. She was like this yesterday, though more distraught. I asked her about it, but she spoke nothing of it, only asking for space. Considering our brief history, I'd not expect her to tell me something so deeply important regardless of my intent to help."

Anne listened to what Fratley said, all while looking at Lucia. "I wonder what is making her look like that. I hate to admit it, but I would rather see her act like normal than how she is acting now." Anne probably didn't know any better, but no matter the case she couldn't help but worry about her right now. "Excuse me for a moment, Robert." She said before heading over to the bed that the Genome was sitting on. Anne seemed a bit nervous, but as she spoke. "Hey, are you okay?" She said it clearly and concisely, hoping that it would get the woman's attention.

----
Atalanta Palaiologos and The Twinsword

The three of them would make it to the Aircab Station, where one of the last aircabs for daily service were to depart shortly. "Come on you two, we gotta get on!" Atalanta said before quickly boarding the aircab. As soon as Twinny and Vanessa got onboard, the aircab closed behind them, and took off for the castle.

The majestic sights of the Grand Castle were amazing, even from the side of the aircab, Twinsword could imagine how wonderous this place was, like a larger Oeilvert. The aircab would eventually land at the station on the castle, and both Atalanta and Twinny came off. "Well then, let's meet up with the rest of the competitors." She said before running off, unknown if Vanessa was following her, but Atalanta went in after her, both of them winding up in the lobby where all the other competitors would be meeting.

Shortly after their arrival, was the arrival of Regent Cid, alongside two guards. However the guards were different in appearance than their normal counterparts. Rather than their white jackets, they wore red jackets. Instead of the large white pointed hats, they wore smaller black hats, and their weapon, as it shown, was revealed to be...

"Flintlock Muskets, well I've gotta hand it to you Cid, you're certainly working to keep up in technology."

Cid himself smiled. "And you should take care to remember your manners Miss Palaiologos."

Robert Crescent

Robert watched as Cid came into the room with his guards. Flintlock muskets. So that's what those weapons were called. Robert walked up to Cid, giving a bow of his head in greeting. "Good morning to you Reagent Cid. I am Sir Robert Crescent. I come on behalf of Burmecia, not just to participate in the hunt on my mother's behalf, but also to discuss what we have experienced of the Olivert armies and the concerns of my brother in law, King Puck. If there is time before the hunt begins, I would like to discuss such matters with you and Princess Eiko, as there is some things that will pertain to her." he spoke in a plain and professional tone. He needed first to know how much the reagent knew about their forces and see what knowledge he could add to it. While he was sure Cid would at least have suspected Oilvert of making their attack during the festival, there were other concerns, and he knew not if the reagent knew about the mirrors as being Oilvert's objective in this war.

Remilia Oveilia and Lan Ester

Lan finished cleaning his claws as Remilia saw Lucia come in acting differently. The next thing she noticed is the new person that came in. The summoner shrugged as Lan turned around while re sheathing his claws.

"Remilia, I need a favor." Lan muttered as he looked over to Remilia.

"What kind of favor?" Remilia asked eyeing the green haired genome closely.

"I can't say it here. It will affect the mission. Just trust me to do what needs to be done." Lan whispered.

Remilia nodded as she got up.

"I'll be looking for a good spot to watch the match. Good luck out there." Remilia muttered as she walked out of the unofficial hunter's waiting room.

Lan watched Remilia walk away as he started to think.

'Now, what do I want as my wish?' Levont started thinking as he saw Cid come into the room and Robert walk up to him.

Hearing Annelise's voice directed at her as she sat down next to Lucia, she realised all she'd managed to do is draw attention to herself. In response to Annelise's questioning she replied with a low "I-i'm fine" instantly cursing the hesitation in her voice, just making it more apparent there was a problem. Turning her head away she tried to find something to take eyes off her.

----------------------------------------

Following Atalanta, Vanessa kept a light grip on Twin Sword's hand, walking at a steady pace with her behind Atalanta's far larger footsteps. When they finally arrived she stood with Twin Sword and waited for the festival to begin, she knew she wasn't going to compete but it was always nice to see her 'sis' enjoying herself.

Regent Cid and Princess Eiko

Eiko arrived moments later after he saw that everyone who was participating had arrived. One of them, a Burmecian walked up to the pair as they were about to make an announcement.

"Good morning to you Reagent Cid. I am Sir Robert Crescent. I come on behalf of Burmecia, not just to participate in the hunt on my mother's behalf, but also to discuss what we have experienced of the Olivert armies and the concerns of my brother in law, King Puck. If there is time before the hunt begins, I would like to discuss such matters with you and Princess Eiko, as there is some things that will pertain to her."

"Well I'm sure that there may be things that can be discussed right now. There are some things technological-wise that I already know about Oeilvert, such as their use of muskets and autonomous mobile artillery platforms. I also know from the message sent from King Puck on what they are after, but I'm still unsure on what purpose they are using the mirrors for." Cid stroked his mustache, pondering on what more the son of Fratley and Freya would have to say.

"Daddy, would it be okay to talk to Lucia?"
She asked, looking at the genome as she was sitting by Annelise, looking down on herself. Cid responded to his adopted daughter. "In a moment, let us listen to what Sir Robert has to say."
----
Annelise Steiner

"I-i'm fine"

Anne frowned, putting her hand on Lucia's shoulder as she tried to look at her. "Are you sure? You don't seem fine?" She sighed hard, looking down on the ground. It just made her think of what Lan had said, but why would Gisale insert herself with the enemy...it just doesn't make sense. "It might not mean much coming from me, but watching you so down like that doesn't suit you, you know...it just...makes me think about the problems I face sometimes."
----

Robert Crescent

Robert gave a short bow of his head. "That is good that you know of their weaponry, it'll make explanations easier." Robert spoke. "Firstly, I'd like to thank Eiko for teaching Vivius how to summon and her gift of the phoenix plume those many years ago. Phoenix was instrumental in taking down several airships and reviving some of our fallen. In all, we suffered aabout a 15% loss of our forces by battle's end, while an estimated 80% of Oielvert's attacking force was slain and the remaining were either captured or had fled. Their artillery carriages fared poorly on the terrain around Burmecia, not suited for wetlands and little traction on magical ice. They are all quite heavy, and require sturdy terrain in order to function well. Their muskets can only be fired once before a lengthy reload, leaving the wielder vulnerable, despite the deadly force of their shots. These are the technologies current known weaknesses as we observed in our defenses." Robert explained.

"As for their purpose for gathering the mirrors, it is the belief of my mother, myself and my brother the king that Oilvert desires something of Terra, as their primary and currently only known function is to open the gateway between Gaia and Terra. However, there may be another use for them, and if so, only Cyril knows. As of what that may be, no one can guess. More urgently, we also suspect that an attack will be made on both Lindblum and Alexandria. And this festival will prove an opening for them as there will be beasts on the loose from within. It is also speculated that rogues may be integrated to use the chaos as cover in order to search for the mirror here. Currently, the Cleyran and Burmecian mirrors are safe and hidden away. My mother and father are currently dispatched to Alexandria to aid Queen Garnet and King Zidane to help in protecting the mirror they have, while I and my companions have come here to assist in the protection of Lindblum's mirror." Robert explained.

With the situation explained in greater detail. Cid absorbed that knowledge. He knew the firearms had a long reload rate which made it ineffective against well trained archers who could fire at three times the speed of their opponents. But the small projectile travelling at a higher speed and velocity than an arrow or even a crossbow bolt would prove effective in shredding battle lines once they bore into range. Oeilvert knew this as well, the only reason why it didn't work in Burmecia, despite knowing full well what was happening, was out of overconfidence, if not a full distraction to get the mirror.

Cid said quietly to Robert. "Excellent, we will have the Festival as planned, make the enemy think that we know nothing. We'll have guards protecting the mirror. We will discuss strategy as soon as we announce who will go where for the event." He nodded before looking at the crowd. "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the 567th Annual Festival of the Hunt. We will now begin assigning starting points." Another guard, in the same red coat put his musket down, and let it lean on his leg while he pulled out a parchment. "Everyone listen up, I will begin issuing the starting points now." He read aloud what it read, and it follows:

Business District:
Robert Crescent
Annelise Steiner

Industrial District:
Atlanta Palaiologos
Lan Ester
Lucia

Theater District:
Aaron Sohm
The Twinsword
Stephen Hownam

Anne breathed a sigh of relief, not being paired up with the Twinsword initially, looking at Robert. As the child of the 16-time Festival Champion, she had a tall order, to try and unseat Freya's son. Twinsword was a bit sore, not pairing with Anne on the field, as an excuse to take her on, and Atalanta looked at Vanessa in a bit of a 'what the heck' moment because the guard said her name wrong.

Lan Ester

As Cid mentioned the location, Lan ignored most of the talk until his name came up in the Industrial district. The green haired genome smiled as he now thought of a way to stay in the castle while participate in the festival.

"Time to pull that favor." Lan whispered as he stood up.

"If that's all we need to know, I will head to the location now. Oh yeah, since the winner gets what they want regardless of any other laws; if I win, I'll take the little girl there." Lan muttered as he pointed to Vanessa.

'It's perfect. Everyone will be focusing on me or more particularly, the robed form of me because of this. I'll get Remilia to wear the robe and claw and let her play around for a bit while I search for the mirror.' Lan mentally thought looking at the girl.

"If that's all, then I'll head out to the hunting field." Lan muttered as he left the room.

------Lan Ester and Remilia Oveilia------

Remilia slowly made it to the air cab as she heard something run up behind her. She turned to see Lan there taking off his green robe to reveal the purple sleeveless shirt and pants with the symbol of the twin moon on it.

"Did you get your location?" Remilia asked as she watched the genome boy take one claw off as well.

"Yeah. I did. I'm pulling that favor on you. Wear this and get Zodiark out. You are going to participate in the Festival in my place." Lan muttered.

"That's stupid. You know I won't do it. Besides, I thought you are in it for the prize." Remilia said.

"I'm not in it for the prize. The prize is outrageous anyways. If you were to somehow win, you would take custody of that little girl you met yesterday." Lan muttered as he forced the robe on Remilia as said summoner stared at Lan shocked.

"ARE YOU INSANE?! You can't do that to Vanessa!! The laws refuse it as well." Remilia spoke.

"Not with the Festival of the Hunt. Any wish will be granted regardless of what the law states. So I just used that to my advantage by making something outrageous just to have eyes on this robe." Lan muttered as he forced the claw on her hand as well.

"While you go after the mirror and perhaps a chance to kill Cyril." Remilia muttered.

"Don't worry about it too much. Just prolong the festival as best as you can but don't win it either." Lan muttered as he marched Remilia into the Air Cab.

"You'll pay for this Lan Ester. I'll make sure of it!" Remilia yelled as she put the hood over her face.

"Industrial District!" Lan yelled as the air cab carrying Remilia left for the destination.

With the air cab gone, Lan quickly left the area as he ducked out of sight. Once out of visual sight of the air cab station, Lan turned his attention to his next problem.

"Where do I find the mirror?"

--------Remilia Oveilia--------

The Air cab soon landed at the Industrial station as Remilia disembark. A Red musketeer guard stood waiting there as he had a piece of paper there.

"Name?" The guard asked.

"Lan Ester." Remilia replied.

The guard checked the paper.

"Ok Mister Ester. You are free to scout out your initial starting point within the district. I will be here until the Festival starts so you don't change areas before hand. Good Luck Sir." The guard muttered in a monotone that suggest that he has done this before.

Remilia nodded as she quickly left the station. She summoned Zodiark as the winged serpent summon wrapped around Remilia's neck.

"Ok Zodiark. Just fire Banish ray at the enemy whenever I pose like this." Remilia said as she struck a pose that looked like someone pointing at something.

Zodiark hissed a bit as it understood while Remilia looked around.

"I hope Lan knows what he is doing." Remilia whispered.

Aaron Sohm

Blocking out most of the talk of the mirror's and the other stuff he heard his name mentioned to where his spot would be,the Theater District.

"Theater District huh...Work's for me, Just be warned to the other two in that part...Don't get in the way,I won't be holding back"He spoke with a serious tone in his voice.

With the few words said he stood up and placed his sword onto his back walking off to the Air Cab's,Aaron walked inside the Air Cab bound to the Theater District and rode it to the destination.Once the Cab came to a stop Aaron exited the cab and walked up to a near-by guard.

"...Aaron Sohm" He spoke, the serious tone never leaving his voice.

The guard nodded and allowed him to pass into the combat zone, Aaron walked into the middle of the area and took his stance.

"Just watch Gafgarion....I'll show you how far I've come!"

((OOC:If there any problems with my post please tell me been awhile since I posted a RP post!))

Robert Crescent

Robert looked over at Anne as they were paired for the same place. Hopefully there would be enough time to discuss strategy before the festival got underway. "Well, looks like we'll be starting out in the same area. Don't think I'll go easy though, I have my mother's title to uphold." he jested a bit. "Even still though, the mission comes first before all else. Winning this is meaningless if Oilvert gets their hands on the mirror here." he spoke calmly.

Atalanta Palaiologos

"If that's all we need to know, I will head to the location now. Oh yeah, since the winner gets what they want regardless of any other laws; if I win, I'll take the little girl there."

The moment Lan pointed at Vanessa, Atalanta recoiled, giving the Genome a cold glare that would scare even a well-trained soldier. "No, I will not allow this! Cid, please tell me that you will not allow this!" But Lan walked away, heading towards his intended battlefield. Cid shook his head. "As much as I would like to disagree, he is right after all. The rules state that the winner will receive whatever he most desires."

Atalanta was not pleased with that answer, very much so that she would storm off out of the common quarters, but not before punching a wall, leaving very visible cracks in the marble, more so around where her fist hit it, to the surprise of some of the other competitors.

Annelise Steiner and the Twinsword

"Well, looks like we'll be starting out in the same area. Don't think I'll go easy though, I have my mother's title to uphold. Even still though, the mission comes first before all else. Winning this is meaningless if Oilvert gets their hands on the mirror here."

"I know." Anne said camly as she sat beside Lucia. It was the whole reason she was here after all, to defend the mirror at all costs. But even then, it seemed that Robert wasn't the only one fired up for the Festival of the Hunt. Twinsword also looked at both Anne and Robert with a look of fiery determination "Won't mean much when I leave you both in the dust!" Twinsword said, her arms crossed around her chest and looking at Anne intensely. "Since I know you have the hots for my man, I figure that we should have a little competition on the side!"

"Wa-What?" Anne looked at Twinsword in surprise, but she raised her hand in the knight's face. "Oh don't you be so coy with me, Annelise...Here's the challenge, whoever wins this competition, gets to go on a date which Ricard..."

Theme-War of the Hunters

Looking at Twinsword, at Robert and at Atalanta as she left in a huff, following Lan and Aaron, she sighed, before she stood up, looking at Twinsword in the face before saying in a serious tone and a straight face. "Fine...but don't cry to me if you lose." Twinsword smiled, "You're on, then!!!" With that the challenge was on, the tension between them so thick that it could be cut with one of Zidane's old Daggers.

Hearing Lan's requested reward, Vanessa's heart skipped a beat in shock as memories flowed into her mind as she recalled the events of her former master in Treno. As her memories flooded back to the cruelty and torments she was subjected to, a hint of emotion appeared in her face as tears began to flow. Not wanting Atalanta to see, Vanessa fled the room, running blindly till she found herself at the air cabs, mistaken for a Hunter she was hurriedly pushed into an Air Cab and taken to the monster filled town.

------------------------------------

Sighing to himself at Twin Sword's and Annelise's display, Ricard shook his headslightly before walking towards the bridge overlooking the town, hearing a presence behind him he turned to see Eiko, daughter of Regent Cid. The bridge area was surprisingly empty considering it's good view of the entire town, putting it aside for now he turned to watch and wait for the Hunt to begin, mostly to keep an eye on Twin Sword and Annelise to make sure they didn't do anything foolish in their little game.

---------------------------------------

As everyone began to leave the room, Lucia at a sufficiently slower speed began to stand herself up and proceed towards the Air Cabs, her motivation lacking to what was probably required for this, perhaps the thrill of battle would keep her mind off things. A distraction being what she could really use right now, as she was moved into the Air Cabs, unaware of her destination she merely waited for the roar of monsters to fill her ears.

Lan Ester

From his hiding spot just out of sight of the air cab, Lan saw more of the hunters leave for their locations as he smiled.

"That just leaves Robert left." Lan whispered as he walked backward a little bit so the shadow can hide his presence.

The genome then turned around and started to run into the castle. It wasn't long until he saw the elevator to the three floors. Quickly running to the elevator, Lan made a bee line to the third floor. He knew that the guards will notify Cid about him. But at this moment, this was his only chance to get the mirror and perhaps a chance to kill cyril before anything major could happen.

"Now, were is the path to the mirror?"

Robert Crescent

Robert gave a nod. He wondered how much time they had to discuss strategy before the festival began. "So, what is our strategy then Regent Cid?" he asked Cid, recalling that he said they would discuss strategy once the contestants were told where they would be going. He was eager to begin, but he wanted to make sure they knew where to go in case of trouble. "If need be, I can use the rooftops to get from one area to another. It'll be a longer trek, but I'll be able to get a bird's eye view of the alleyways in case of anything suspicious." the Burmecian offered. "Also for my reward, a nice suit of enchanted gold armor would be nice." he spoke, thinking about how he would look. However, he felt rather disgusted by Lan's remark. The poor girl already suffered enough and didn't trust men as it was, and now Lan was going to, just by his own selfish desire, reinforce that. He wasn't going to allow Lan to win. If anything, he now had a greater reason to win than just upholding his mother's title.

Annelise Steiner and Regent Cid

Annelise was just as disgusted about Lan's wish as Atalanta and Fratley, if anything else she wanted to win for Vanessa's sake as well as her own.

"So, what is our strategy then Regent Cid? If need be, I can use the rooftops to get from one area to another. It'll be a longer trek, but I'll be able to get a bird's eye view of the alleyways in case of anything suspicious."

"I will assist in this measure as well, Regent Cid."
Annelise said, looking over at the two of them. "I know I'm not as agile as Robert, but it is also my duty as well to protect the people, whatever it takes."

Cid nodded, "Alright, for now, we will do just that. Most of the normal guard will be out to protect the people during the festival. I'll have the redshirts take over the castle guard." He said calmly "In case any unidentified persons infiltrate the third floor, we will have them engage. Should they fail, we will launch fireworks that signal that the defense has been breached."

Robert Crescent

Robert gave a nod after listening to the plan. No one would suspect fireworks of being a signal, and Robert's jumping abilities would allow him to get back to the castle even without the help of the subway cabs. "Sounds good." he spoke before looking over to Anne. "Well, let's get going. I'm not about to let Lan win this so he can turn that poor girl into his slave." Robert spoke before he headed off to the waiting cab that would take him and Anne to the Business District.

Annelise Steiner

"Well, let's get going. I'm not about to let Lan win this so he can turn that poor girl into his slave."

"Right." Anne nodded before following Robert to the aircabs for what would be the competition. The ships would take off to the sky, away from the castle as they would inevitably head out for the Business District of Lindblum.

Upon arrival, Annelise would disembark from the ship. A guard next to the ship looked at her, walking up to him she spoke her name. "Annelise Steiner." The guard nodded and said, "You may pass, the event will start in two minutes." The Alexandrian knight nodded and upon passing through to the outside, she looked down at the street and pulled out her broadsword, grasping the blade with both hands as she awaited the signal for the start of the competition.

Robert Crescent

Robert exited the cab at the business district. After the guard permitted Anne through, the guard approached Robert. "Robert Crescent." he spoke plainly and calmly, his lance shouldered.

"You may pass, the event will start in two minutes." the guard replied. The Burmecian stood outside, calm, ready, focused. He had to keep his ears and eyes alert not just for the monsters to come, but for anyone suspicious. He'd go via the rooftops to get from one district to another. Not as fast as the rail car, but more direct since he wouldn't need to backtrack to the car each time. Plus he'd be able to get a good aerial view of the alleyways. All that was left was to wait for the games to begin.

Lan Ester

Ducking out of sight for the time being, Lan put on one of his claws on and waited. As he waited, he saw red jacket guards with some wierd stick with holes at the end. "Looks like I have to be careful about those." Lan whispered as he waited for the festival to start before he made his move.

------
Remilia Oveilia

The summoner sighed as she lifted the green robe up a bit. A few times, she tripped over the robe itself.

"Just how does Lan fight in this?" Remilia wondered as Zodiark hissed.

Smiling a bit, Remilia fitted the claws to her hand and pulled out her staff as she waited for the festival to start and hopefully end quickly.

Private Tom Baxley and Sergeant Billy Williams
Lindblumite Army, 8th Regiment of Foot

"I can't believe I've signed up to release monsters in the city!"

"You will do as you are ordered, now help me open up these cages."

"Ugh, yes sir."
The soldier walked up to the cages and began pulling on the gate. It slowly opened up, letting out a couple hundred blue-furred Mu's out along with about 50 or so wolf-like Fangs, filling the streets with the monsters. "God, I hate squirrels..."

Corporal Jimmy Johnson
Lindblumite Army, 2nd Artillery

A Lindblumite Corporal stood over a tall cage overlooking the Theater Districts tower. Pulling out the key, he smiled as the soldier began to open the gate, releasing the Trick Sparrows, roughly a hundred in number as they took to the sky and began flying throughout the districts, looking for food.

Dr. Frank Stein
Professor of Animal Research, University of Lindblum

"So what monster you created for this years festival?"

"Ah yeds, ve have created a great monster, spliced DNA from monster in Treno, ist very gewt, ya, very gewt." The Professor and two guards heard the door bang against the steel door, leaving a dent. Another bang felt like the stone, and the door was about to give way. "Open the gates!!!" The guard captain said as the two guards began pulling a lever, letting the steel doors slowly open up, releasing a jet black colored Behemoth which roared into the sky. "Go, Kaiser Behemoth, show them vour frightening powah!!!"
