RP Proposals: List & Feedback

1. The Sphere Theater as its own Section:

I am 100% for that idea, seeing as it's too big of a section to simply be made a sub-section of Spira. Spira itself needs to be organized really, since it's just random sub-sections thrown together >_>

2. Rename the Sphere Theater:

Agreed, most newbies don't have a clue where the RP section is, simply because of it's name. "The Sphere Theater" while fitting in with the whole "Spira" theme of that section, makes no sense. Same with all the names in the Spira section, if you think about it >_>

3. Four-Five Separate Forums Within the RP Central:

I agree with all the sections you proposed, as they would be really helpful and it would be nice to see the RP section as a big section, with the appropriate number of sub-sections, and it would also attract more people, as it would be larger, and therefore, easier to spot.

Perhaps, you could have sub-sections of sub-sections, with areas for Advanced, Intermediate, and Beginner RPers? Just a thought.

4. RPer of the Month Award:

Agreed with this. It's sad, but true, that giving people the chance to earn themselves some recognition will make them want to participate in the activity. Look at SOTW, ever since we installed that mod, we've had more entries than ever.

5. Sticky RP Suggestion Thread: This thread would be like an announcement, in that it’d be present in all of the RP Central. This would be for members to freely come forward with any suggestions for the area, ranging from RP storyline ideas, to new forums, contests, etc. There may also be area-specific Member suggestion threads.

I think this would be a great way to not only get members opinions, and let them have some sort of control over the section, it would encourage new RPs, and encourage more people to share their ideas.

6. More Tips & General RP Rules:

This would be a great way of letting RP newbs know what is and what isn't allowed in role playing, and could help more people learn to RP.

7. Critique Section:

I like the idea of this, as if it was created in the right environment, it can help people become better RPers, and get bigger and better storylines out there.

8. Reputation System:

I agree with this, since it's exactly what the rep system is there for, and like I previously stated, everyone loves to get a bit of recognition.

Color Key:
Red = Officially Denied.
Yellow = In Working Progress.
Green = Completed.
Blue = Suggested, but no decision made.

On a completely unrelated and un-serious note, I love the key! Especially how "Color Key" is all in different colors ^^

Little things amuse little people, I suppose xD

I have looked over all of this and discussed it with Kendra. We both agree on EVERYTHING here, and we are also discussing the sub-forums for each individual forum. I've outlined them, and Kendra agrees, so the post is being amended :neomon:

She did an awesome job with this, so I wish I had an uber-huge rep-power, just so I could give her a huge rep :monster:

We had discussed something similar, and it was how the 'Training Center' came about. The only issue I have with the idea, is I really want to stay away from classifying the RPers. I think it should be entirely up to the way that other RPers feel about their posts, that should decide what kind of RPer they are. I'm just afraid that with sub-forums that specifically outline their experience level, that it may come off as elitist, or discourage RPers.

I do like the idea of possibly creating Tip threads for RPers of different experience levels, though! That might work very well.

Haha, thank you! Admittedly, I took the idea from your Schedule & To-Do List thread.

Also, thank you very much for your input, Mark. It's greatly appreciated. And, thanks, Throttle, I tried! xD

All of this is an absolutely excellent idea and I support each and every little thing except for one thing; the title. Role Play Central is what ACF used and I want to stay away from anything possible ACF. I was thinking, do you remember in FFVII when Cloud and Aerith go and do the play at the Gold Saucer? Well, how about naming the section Event Square instead of Role Playing Central. That way we can still to our FF theme names across the board.

Other than that, I think you guys got it going on and I give you my full permission and support to go ahead and implement this. If Angelus would like, she can make the section for you guys as her first big job as reinstated admin. Just let us know when you've got names picked out for all the sub-sections, and we'll get it implemented ASAP.

I love the event square idea! It's such a big and dramatic place, just like the RP section!

Only their Drama, is the good Drama. The one without the Llama. *nods*

xD Oh deary me, that made me giggle. :P Anyway, me too! What if you used names from the whole Gold Saucer? You could totally do a Gold Saucer Theme!:gasp: If you want to, the Gold Saucer names consist of:

  • Battle Square
  • Chocobo Square
  • Event Square
  • Ghost Square
  • Round Square
  • Speed Square
  • Station Square
  • Wonder Square

Hmm, those aren't bad titles, but I really think we need to implement a self-explanatory forum name. If "RP Central" isn't acceptable, then we could use variations of the title:

The Role Play Forum
Role Playing Center

I feel that "The Golden Saucer" would be just like "The Sphere Theater." I just think we need a self-explanatory name, especially since it will become it's own area. The sub-forum titles aren't that big of a deal, so implementing the other titles, like Wonder Square, Battle Square, etc, is fine.

Aye, the Gold Saucer theme is an awesome idea! Now the issue is just thinking which one goes where :wacky: Obviously Battle Square will be the Battle section, but I think we should have the RPer of the Month as Dio's Hall of Fame (or whatever the feck that guy called it  ).

Aye, a self-explanatory name is preferable, so maybe we can have the main Forum Name as "Role Playing Centre" and use the Gold Saucer themes for the Forums and Sub-Forums. I think that "General Information" (or summat of the sort) should remain the name for the General Section. If not, then Station Square would suffice, as it is the location for the information on the Gold Saucer in the game.

I do believe that the Bio Areas should remain similar to "Hall of Warriors," though. I debated on Ghost Square and Chocobo Square (both being places where people gather), but the reasonings just seem a little too subtle to really be obvious or clever.

It may also be preferable to have a separate section in the forum made SPECIFICALLY for tournaments. They could get very mixed up in the Battle Section or Story Section or wherever they would go, and I think I'd rather them be out and in plain view, to give the members the impression that they aren't just being shoved in with the rest of the battles, and that the tournaments are unique.

Now, another issue is how we're going to move all the threads into the appropriate areas. I think it might be wise to make the new forum, give Kendra and I powers in that forum so that we can move the threads to their proper areas, and after every thread has been successfully moved, delete the old forum. Clean, quick, and to the point with no beating around the bush.

And, similar to how Mark did, on a completely unrelated and actually serious note, YOU UK PEOPLE ARE DESTROYING ME :gasp: I must have said 'aye' more than a thousand times in the last 24 hours :gasp:

I would really like to keep section titles up with the FF Theme we have going on right now across the forums. You can put RPing in the description and I'm sure people will realize what it is.

It'll also be a lot easier to find since it'll be it's own section. I'd also like to stay away from Role Playing(Play, RP) Central because that is ACF's old name for their RP section. I'd like to just keep anything like that away from the forums as much as possible.

I dunno, Mandi. I think that we should imply the nature of the Forum in the title. Even the FF-Based titles are representative of their natures (e.g. The Sleeping Forest for debates, since The Sleeping Forest was a place with a serious issue; Costa Del Sol is a place to relax and let the worries go, as seen by the spamming). I agree that copying ACF is undesirable, but naming it "The RP Forum" or summat of the sort wouldn't be copying, or even implying that we are a copy of ACF.

If you are absolutely adamant on keeping the name as far away from ACF as thematically possible, I may have a compromise. The Battle Square in FFVII is comprised of 4 main sections: Entrance Hall, Registration Hall, Dio's Hall of Fame, and The Coliseum. Perhaps the Battle Square could be the actual Forum itself, with the General Section being called the "Entrance Hall." Registration Hall would be the place where Bios would go, and The Coliseum would be where the battles could be held. In this way, we can keep the idea of the RP Section, yet still pull away from the ACF issues.

EDIT

Actually, Mandi and I have discussed this, and in my foolish naivite as to the current availability of the "Gold Saucer" name, we agree that "Gold Saucer" might be the best name for the RP Section. I wasn't aware that "Gold Saucer" was not being used =_=

Actually, I think Gold Saucer is already the name of the board for the non-FF video games.

If you wanted to switch them, I hope it doesn't confuse the members too much.

Nope. Apparently, that's been changed to the Rocket Town. Or, that's what the title says, anyways :neomon:

Anywho, does this mean that the forum change is a-go? Are we finally getting our own separate RP Forum?!

*crosses his fingers*

I don't see why not. ^_^

You guys just go ahead and set up the names and all that and make sure once you're ready and have everything ready to go, section names, etc...send the info onto Angelus so she can create the section for you.

YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

*does an evil dance* :devil2: Our schemes are moving along, dear Kendra :devil2: It seems our power shall soon be consolidated :neomon:

Ooooohhh, Kendra :neomon: We must now discuss!

*goes to discuss evil plans with Kendra*

:devil2:

I really like the ideas here, guys. Good job! =] I especially like that unique idea of Awards. It's always good that two sections collaborate with each other - I think that would be extremely neat!

The Reputation system is also thumbs up! Certainly a very good excuse to make use of the system thoroughly. It'll influence members to make more than well-written posts for the RP section. xD

I don't know much about RP, but from what I read, it really seems like you guys got it alright. Excellent, my friends! Now go, spread your wings and flllllyyy. :wacky:

Now go, spread your wings and flllllyyy. :wacky:

Fly my pretties, fly! (couldn't resist)

Also, how about positioning the RP section above the Spira section too? Then it's higher up, since Spira and The RPG Section are quite specific and not many people may scroll there, and if it's above Spira, it might attract more attention?

Haha, I like that, Mitsuki. xD I'll be sure to take off at top speed.

I spoke with Mandi about it further, and so far, it seems that the area will remain as "The Sphere Theater." It will keep with the FF theme, and won't confuse any existing RPers, or other members. I also think it will be a way to use many different sub-forum titles, without causing conflict or making little sense.

I've edited the first post with some of the new statuses, and next time I talk with Throttle, we'll work on mapping out the area, in terms of all of the names.

Edit: You ninja'd my post, Mark. xD Sorry, didn't see yours.
I'd be all for bumping the RP section, but, quite frankly, I'm more than happy to be HAVING our own section. So, I'm not too worried about placement. ^^;

Alright, we've decided on the names and such. Here is the format we are using:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->1.) The Library (General Section)
-The Bulletin Board (News, Updates, and Discussion)
-The Alliances (Alliances and Guilds)
-The Classroom (FAQs and Rules)
-Hall of Fame (Conpetitions)

2.) The Storytellers
-The Writers (ORPGs)
-The Editors (URPGs)
-The Review (ORPG Discussions)
-The Periodical (URPG Discussions)

3.) The Practitioners
-The Barracks (Bios)
-The Dojo (Help and Mentoring)
-Sparring Arena (Training)
-Testing Facility (Experimental)
-The Battlefield (Standard)
-The Break Room (Discussion and Suggestions)

4.) The Legends
-Hall of Warriors (Bios)
-Battle Hardened (Sub-Sub Forum of Hall of Warriors-Approved Bios)
-The Tavern (Discussion)
-The Dueling Grounds (Battles)
-The Coliseum (Tournament)

With this system, we have figured out a way to optimize efficiency, enhance activity, and draw in new members. Despite it's outward complexity, it really is fairly simple, and has an excellent theoretical potential.

I am currently working on the rules for each section. If you require clarification on anything, you can PM myself or Contra Fates. If we are on MSN at the same time as you, then that, too, is an efficient way of contacting us.

Thoughts?
