RP Proposals: List & Feedback

Seriously :gasp: Well then, I suppose we'll have to change that part, then -__-.

I have an idea. How about in the Meeting Room I change The Classroom to Study Hall and then you guys can stay with The Classroom for your section?

Ooh I like the idea. Study Hall sounds more classy too. xD

Aye, that it does :monster: See Mandi, school is wonderful for the creativity, is it not :wacky:

...Psychology excepted, of course -__-

=o Well, that sounds good to me! Guess there isn't much more for me to add. xD

So, all of the names are fine, Mandi?

Request:

Can you default the forum to show every thread? I spoke to Decado about it, and he said it's possible, but that an Admin would have to do it.

The reason I would like the area to show all threads, is primarily for The Bio sections. All of the bios would be there, so people wouldn't have to wonder where their bio went once they get older than 45 days.

We'd still be modding the area and cleaning out threads that get more than about 5 or so months old without any activity, but I think it'd be better to just show all of the threads in that area, so it doesn't get pruned unless we deem it necessary.

Well, to be honest I'm still not completely familiar with forum-making and don't want to screw anything up, so I'll leave it to Angelus to make the new one for you guys. I'll go ahead and change the name of The Classroom to Study Hall.

I'll try to see if I can change the settings for the bio section.

But are we finally through with all the discussion so that I can make the changes?

EDIT: Fixed.

Aye, that we are :monster: We can now make the dream a reality :neomon:

...What a cliche xD

We have all of the names picked out and ready to go.

Throttle mentioned he'd be starting on the rules, so, we should have all of that ready to go soon as well.

In terms of Forums, Sub-Forums, and Sub-Sub-Forums, this is how The Sphere Theatre should look:

EDIT (20 minutes later :wacky: )

DONE! I have the rules written up and completed. Now we just need Contra to go over them with me.

Okay, I've changed the sections now, but I don't entirely know what descriptions I should put in some of those sub-sections, so I've left them blank for now. I admit that I'm not an RPer myself, so I don't really know which threads should be moved to other ones if they need to be, but I suspect that the moderators in charge of the RP would know how to do that.

And I don't know if the original Coliseum should be the Battle Grounds or the new Coliseum. If you want to change that, let me know so you don't have to move the entire section to the other forum.

-The Basics: RPers will be instructed on the benefits of using proper grammar, and expanding their vocabulary. They will be taught the basic rules of God-Modding, Power-playing, etc. They'll also be taught the benefits of re-reading their posts, as well as utilizing spell-check. This is the basic, introductory course.

Aye, this is an excellent idea. Due to my grammar naziness and extreme disdain for God-modding and power-playing, you'll get no argument from me.

-Character Creation: Acceptable races, abilities, strengths, weaknesses, believability, detail, etc.

To be honest, just about any race is acceptable, besides those that are absurdly strong. Giants would be an example of a race that I may reject, since their raw strength is far beyond what most players can achieve. However, if the RPer balances the character with certain weaknesses (giants, for example, aren't very manoeuverable or fast, and ergo will have difficulty hitting a normal-sized person), then that absurdly strong creature may just be acceptable.

Same goes with abilities; as long as they are backed up by logical and equivalent costs, then there isn't much of an issue. For example, my character, Hera Ledro, can use an attack called the Wave Splitter. He swings his hand, either with his palm or finger(s) outstretched, and creates an arc-like wave of energy. This attack is fast, possibly fatal if he uses his fingers to create a slicing wave rather than the blunt wave which is released when he uses his palm, but there are drawbacks.

The Wave Splitter is not very taxing in terms of energy, but due to it's small size, it is not difficult to dodge. It is even easier to dodge when he uses the slashing Wave Splitter; though the attack becomes more deadly if it hits, it is smaller and easier to dodge. Due to the size of the attack, it also takes half the energy of the blunt Wave Splitter.

Do you see where I am going with this? Basically, as long as the ability has logical faults and costs, it is an acceptable skill. You want to blow up a planet, sure, but you'd damn better well sacrifice yourself in doing so :neomon:

-Description: Effectively describe area-specific details. RPers will be taught how to better describe character appearance, movements, actions, personality, backstory, etc.

Yes. That's the only word that can wrap up everything I think about that suggestion :neomon:

-Dialogue: RPers will be taught how to better present their character's dialogue, and teach them how to keep their dialogue consistent with their character's personality. They'll also be taught how to convey thoughts and emotions in a way that isn't confusing to the reader.

Another thing that would be advisable is to teach them to remain intact with their character's personalities while responding to the other person's dialogue. This doesn't even have to be a verbal response. I know, personal examples aren't the best ones, but their the only ones I can think of off the top of my head x_x

I'll make a comparison between Jake and Hera. Hera Ledro is more reserved, and yet just as steadfast in his honour as Jake is. However, there are major differences in terms of their responses. Jake, as a young child, is far more explosive and emotional in his responses. He is far more outgoing and less withdrawn than Hera is. Hera Ledro, on the other hand, may feel exactly the same as Jake, but it is rare that he allows his temper to get the better of him, and he often responds with a more calculated response than an emotional one. This battle that I am currently having with professor13 is one example of the rare times Hera lets his temper get away with him :neomon:

This would be an excellent tool in aiding the people to stay in-character with their characters, as I have seen responses by characters that are more fitting of the player than the character, and not all of these responses have been verbal.

-Creating Personal Style: RPers will be taught how to make their character personal and unique. They'll be introduced to literary devices, techniques, perspective, and syntax.

This is a good idea, as the cliched warrior is starting to get a bit old (well, as much older as cliche can get).

In terms of perspective, I'm finding the one thing you can NEVER do in an RP is write in the Third Person Omniscient. That assumes that you, as the writer, know everything that is going on, and have complete control over both sides of the battle. Second Person is simply far too difficult to write in -_- I've tried, and it's hard as hell.

-Interaction: RPers will be taught the importance of interaction with other characters. This mostly will take place in the story-RPs. They'll be taught proper methods of engagement, and instructed on the importance of PMing and messaging other RPers in order to achieve the proper interaction to make their RP experience more enjoyable.

I would also suggest interaction with the environment. There is a reason you fight in a forest and not a slab of stone. Use everything to your advantage; even if you are in a barren desert, you can use logic and the environment to create an excellent opening in your opponent.

-Setting: They'll be taught how to better describe their surroundings, when appropriate, and would also teach them how to utilize those surroundings in certain situations.

In addition to what I stated previously, describing the setting is one of the best ways to introduce an interaction with the setting. Describing the very appearance of a tree can be the difference between getting shot at from around a tree or having a tree wide enough to shield you.

-Battle: Teaching the basic rules of combat, the do's and don'ts. Battle etiquette will be taught here, along with ways to describe and use weapons and create a battle-ready character.

-Developing Fighting-Style:
This will be another area for Battle Mentors, teaching RPers how to create a battle system for their characters. This will go more in-depth, and Mentors will likely give much of their lessons in the Sparring Arena.

Aye :elmo:

Would it be a bad idea if I propose a RP Weapon Shop (can't think of a better name now)?

The idea is simple, I noticed that some members can't just do a well original weapon design for their RP Characters, and since I have done a few RP weapons for other users (such as Zeria Iiyasei for example), I just thought it would be a good way to help new members.

I just feel like writing to help my creative juices get back to life.

Such as the nameless blade you mentioned in the Chit Chat thread? I don't see why not :elmo:

Another thing that we could start for the Training area is a Character Creation Tutorial. I can't remember when I thought of it, or when somebody here suggested it (cuz I'm pretty sure somebody suggested it before now), but it would be a lot more helpful to members to actually LEARN how to make a bio.

Speaking of which, Contra, we need to figure out a bio format for the Training section, one which would be basic-yet-effective and educational.

For this to work at it's most efficient level, Contra and I have discussed making these into sub-sub-forums for The Dojo. This will allow for easier organization and less complication of things.

Wouldst thou liketh to do the honour, Angelus?

Hey guys, what if we had a section for judges in the RP Tournament, and a separate usergroup for them so they can access it? In all honesty, it seems like a good idea. Credit to Virgil :monster:

Basically, it would be an area for any RP Tourney judges to confer in and discuss battles. Only Judges and Staff would have access to it, and there would be a set of guidelines, rules, etc.

Thoughts?

Nah, I'm not a big fan of this idea. RP Judges are just a temporary, voluntary thing...I don't think it really warrants a new usergroup for them. As for the Judging Discussion, I think it can be carried out through MSN [since the judges have it], and through PMs.

If a thread is necessary, I'd be fine with an invisible thread that only the Judges can access. That should be possible, shouldn't it? Or does it -have- to be a section?
