Note: The RP Stadium is a trademarked product of the Wild Cards Guild.

As Jack of the Wild Cards, and the Chairman this new venture, it's my pleasure to welcome all of you to what will hopefully be a long-standing tradition here. This is the RP Stadium, where every two weeks any one of you can show of your skills against one of our fine Masters (the High Cards of our Guild) for everyone else to see! Have you wanted to see where your skills stack up against some of the best? Then, this is the place for you! However, before we just go having battles, I need to explain how exactly the RP Stadium works. I'll describe everything you need to know in detail below. Whether or not you have the fortitude to sign up for a challenge is up to you!

History of the Stadium
The Stadium has its roots from two programs, one which is probably more familiar to most than the other. The first is probably less familiar. I'm an avid cook, and I watch a lot of food-TV. One of their shows is called Iron Chef, where challenging chefs pit their skills against a set of "Iron Chef", who are specialists in particular fields. As far as the other one, it's more likely you've seen this before. I saw the Signature of the Week contest, and I liked the idea of people with talent being pitted against each other in a unique challenge. I think, "Why doesn't the RP Forum have something like that?" Put the two ideas together, and the RP Stadium was born.

How the Stadium Works
Now, I'll describe how these competitions are going to actually work. Signups will take place in this thread (more details later) to form a pool of applicants. Battles will take place bi-weekly, at least for now. When it's time for a battle, I will randomly select a challenger from the pool. That challenger will be notified, and will be asked to challenge a sitting Master (more on them later as well). The Master will be notified, and on the appointed challenge day, a new thread will be posted by me for the purposes of the challenge only. The catch is, both combatants will only know the specifics of the challenge on the day of the battle, when I reveal them. Then, the combatants will complete whatever challenge is given to them. Once they are finished, a panel of three judges (more on judges/judging later as well) will rate each person's performance out of 20 points. The judges will give me the point totals for each person, and the one with more points is declared the winner! It's as simple as that.

Note: No edits will be allowed once you have made your competition posts. Any posts that are edited without the consent of the judges will be automatically disqualified. It's fairly pointless to have a grade in structure if you can simply edit the errors out of your posts! Make sure they are right the first time, and you'll do just fine!

Judges
As stated earlier, there will be a panel of three judges for each battle. The judges will also not know the challenge until it is revealed. I will also randomly choose the three judges before each battle, when I choose the challenger, out of a specific pool of judges. For now, the only people I consider qualified as RPS Judges are the High Cards of our Guild. However, I hope that this pool will expand. If you would like to apply to be an RPS Judge, you must meet the following criteria:
  • Participated in the RP Stadium at least once (win or lose).
  • Have participated/Be participating in at least 3 active RPs (story, battle, doesn't matter)
  • Display, in your average posts, a good grasp of RPing in general
If you think you meet these criteria, you can either PM me or post in here your desire to be considered as a Judge. Then, I will administer a test of your impartial judging ability and your general competence. If you pass this test, you will be certified as an RPS Stadium judge, and will be eligible to judge competitions from that point forward. I look forward to many of you participating in the Stadium in this way (don't worry, you can still make challenges as well as be judge-qualified).

Judging/Scoring
Each of the three judges can award either combatant up to 20 points. Naturally, the maximum score for either competitor would be 60. The points are broken up as follows:
  • Overall content of your post(s) - 10 pts
  • Structure of your post(s) - 5 pts
  • Creativity in dealing with the challenge - 5 pts
When a battle is completed, I will only announce each competitor's total points. This is to give the judges a blind of sorts so that no one involved in the battle knows how each individual judge scored them. This will hopefully allow judging to be more accurate.

The Masters
Now, who will you be challenging in the arena? Below are listed the RP Masters, any of which you can choose once you are chosen as the challenger!
  • The Ugly Pretty-Boy, Fair_Game (0-0-0)
  • The Dragonic Allsie, Danny the Cat (1-0-0)
  • The Kendragon, Contra Fates (0-0-0)
  • The Chairman of Chaos, Ness (0-0-0)
  • AKA ChiChi Fernando, Mistah J (0-1-0)
And there you have it.....the Masters await your challenges!

Signing Up
Now, I'm sure the question is, how do I sign up to be a part of this? It's easy, just let me know here in this thread. This thread is not only meant to be a discussion of each battle, and a archive of sorts, but a place for you to declare your readiness. No character bios of any sort are necessary here, due to the nature of the Stadium. One challenge can have you creating a set of characters, the other can have you battling with a pre-determined set of limits. Thus, no one character can be within the scope of the challenges I'll be handing out.

The Chairman
The Chairman is the one running the show. He determines the specific challenge for the competition and announces the results. Naturally, I will be performing in this regard, with one notable exception. If I am challenged, naturally, I cannot serve in my capacity as Chairman. So, in the event I am involved in a battle directly or otherwise not available, Mistah J will serve as Chairman in my absense. Regardless of who the sitting Chairman is, they can also serve as a judge. This position is not open, unless I leave forever. (sorry everyone =P)

Battle of the Masters Series
To inaugurate the RP Stadium, and to give everyone an idea of how it works, we are going to have a series of three test battles. These battles will pit two sitting Masters against each other, with the remaining three serving as the judges. The first three battles, chosen at random, are as follows:
  • Mistah J vs. Danny the Cat
  • Ness vs. Fair_Game
  • Contra Fates vs. Mistah J
We will begin the first competition starting on Monday. I will post the thread containing the first battle in the early afternoon (about 3 PM, U.S. Eastern Time). Combatants, I ask that you be ready to go at least sometime on Monday afternoon. Each battle will have a few days notice, so that I can make sure you will be available so we can proceed on schedule. Once the Battle of the Masters Series is over, we will begin to schedule the first real challenges.

That concludes the opening speech for the RP Stadium. If you all have any questions, feel free to PM me or ask in this thread. I look forward to as many people as possible participating, and for a successful season here in the Stadium. Good luck!

~The Chairman

Well, there's my post. What do you guys think? I've never done Necromancer stuff before, so I'm keen to hear your thoughts.

Well, I'm completely blown away. XD My ass is soooo going to get beat. : innocent smile smile : Good job ! I really liked it. Anyway, I better go work on mine! Oh and for my nickname? Dirty Girl? XD Lmao.

Okay, I have my post for the stadium half way done. I should have her up today, guys. It took me awhile. I had to really think and put some creativity into it. xD

I must say, both entries are quite good. One must be better than the other (at least in the judges' minds =P), so as soon as I get the other two judges' decisions I'll announce the verdict!

Take it from me, though, it was hard to judge. Two great entries, that's for sure. I only hope these events are just as successful in the future.

Oh, and do you really want to be Dirty Girl? It's your choice, afterall, if that's what you really want. =P

Edit: I added a portion to the rules about editing your posts. It's not an issue I even considered until I noticed an edit in this competition. It's fine for now, but I'm going to disallow it in the future. Make sure you post right the first time!!!

;) Naw. Call me Chichi Fernando. Thank you. As for my edit - I misspelled a couple of words and I went back and fixed them up. Thank you thank you.

I actually didn't even notice that you edited, I was referring to Jon. o_O

Oh well, so much the better that we have the rule. Wouldn't make much sense to grade on Structure if you can fix all your errors, eh?

Ok, the first results have been posted.

Does anyone know how to make a decent table? I tried to chart the point spread but it got kind of.....complicated. =\

I'd like to be a challenger, when the master battles are finished. Do judges have to be masters or can one be a challenger as well as a judge?

Qualifications for judging are in the rules in the first post. As long as you go through the process, anyone can judge.

Ah, I see. My mistake, I must have missed that...>.> :D
Until I've met those, then, I'd still like to compete. This is a great idea. Ness, you do this all by your lonesome?
(And if you already pointed that out, my mistake).

Could I join in Ness? Now i've got more time on my hands I should be able to participate fully :D

I've edited the original post with a list of the challengers so far. Looks to be a pretty good list of people, thanks for your participation!
