RP-Tale of the Forgotten

As he approached the edge of the village, Damian noticed the two men he had met earlier. They were just standing there talking by horse. He had not expected them to be waiting there with they way they had taken off. This was a good sign. They were much more courteous than they had originally appeared. Hopefully they were just as trustworthy.

Damian slowed his pace to just a walked as he came up to them. A cloud of dust floated in the air showing where he had come from. There was a massive difference in the flora in the distance compared to that of the immediate area. He wondered how could have missed this detail while investigating.

The horse appeared to belong to Virgil. It was one of the finest creatures Damian had ever seen. Virgil must have taken very good care of it; another reason that helped him in building trust with him.

"That is a magnificent animal you have there Virgil."

Virgil sighed and tighed Duke back up to the post, it would be very rude of him to go by horseback while the others walked. He was one for manners. But he did find it unusual that Vex had been travelling by foot rather than horseback, how was it that he wasn't tired yet?

"That is a magnificent animal you have there Virgil." Came Damian's voice

"Why Thank you" Virgil smiled. "He is my pride and joy and probably my only friend. I am a little sad to be leaving him here by himself, but I will make it up to him with a nice fresh apple upon my return." He gave the horse a pat on the rump and then looked in the direction of the forest.

"Well...Shall we?" and with that he began to walk, sighing as he thought about how much time would be wasted going by foot. He didn't quite know if he trusted the two men, Damian seemed like a nice enough fellow but Vex... he couldn't help but think there was something more to the man but he was obviously not ready to share it so Virgil left it alone for now.

Silently observing the group Rufus could tell he was right to follow the man, he certainly had a strange aura about him. Staying in such a confined space would have him inevitably detected so he chose to move on, leaving through the village gate he came in through though almost bumped into his quarry in the mass of villagers going about their daily lives, nimbly dodging them he left the village and entered the outskirts.

Keeping himself hidden from sight he watched the village like a hawk eying it's prey, the circumstances were all too convenient for him to let this strange traveller off the hook too easily, even if not a villain he certainly served a stronger purpose than common man, regardless of the man's intent Rufus would have to get involved one way or another. After a short space of time however, Rufus could sense a disturbance from a good distance away, something was coming, he could feel it...

With the two men ready to go Vex gave the area one last look over. He was hoping now with the help of these two that maybe whatever was in the forest if a fight occurred they could take care of it. Hating to give any information that might bring up his past Vex thought of a little word ploy, something to see if any of these two knew of the legends with his people.

"So let me ask you two something. What do you know of the old fairy-tales? Any good ones, cause i'm thinking of a pretty strange one myself. Can't remember what these people were called but it was said they had something to help them control the elements. You think something like that could be involved here?"

By this time they were about halfway there. Still moving he let his questions hang, possibly having lead them onto something but in the end, he had to determine their ability to think for themselves and outside the box. If they couldn't do any of that they would be useless in dealing with matters to the gems.

After a bit more walking it seemed they were getting closer to the forest it was easier to see into the tree line. "Well wer......" A violent earthquake interrupted Vex as he was about to speak. It was a nightmare almost parts of the forest fell down as the ground cracked all around them, anything withing the forest began to flee. Various animals ran past them as the birds fled their trees that were not knocked down. Vex was knocked down to his knees from a mixture of the chaos of all the animals and the quaking. As he got to his feat the quaking slowly stopped and then something more frighting started to happen. It looked like the forest was being pushed aside as trees seemed to bend at awkward left and right angles. Then a thumping sound was heard and Vex started to speak one more. "Please not another...ohhhh dear." Was his reply as a eight foot slim muscle build golem appeared in front of them.

(OOC: sorry for dragging you two up, wanted to get to the fight. Also as for the golem kinda think of how it looked like in FF6 when you fought him in the wild. Or better yet slightly slimier version of an Iron Giant, but still somewhat muscled.)

As they began their journey to the forest Virgil couldn't help but have second thoughts on leaving his poor stallion behind, what if someone stole him or something happened, he could not leave his best friend alone so he quickly rushed back to the creature.

"I am sorry Duke." He smiled stroking the horses nose. Luckily they had only left the village so it wasn't really a bother to anyone if he quickly rushed back and grabbed the creature.

He then rushed back to the small group, horses reins in hand. He would walk the horse along with them rather than ride it. The walk took a while Vex asked them a strange question about fairy tales... Virgil wondered if the man was perhaps crazy, he didn't know him very well after all.

Eventually they made it to the forest and things were not calm for even a second. The ground began to shake and vibrate violently, the trees rustling loudly, there seemed to be a large groaning sound flowing through the air.

"W-what on earth..." cam Virgil's cry, Duke let out a large neigh, kicking his legs in a fuss as Virgil held onto him, then as if appearing out of nowhere a huge golem was before them. It was enormous, taller than most of the trees in the forest, it looked like it was out for blood.

"This does not look good, how did this thing hide in the forest for this long??" The elf questioned in shock as he placed a hand on his sword. "Do we fight?" he looked at his two companions for an answer.

Observing the group from afar, Rufus watched the direction they were headed; the forest. Rufus made a hasty retreat in it's direction, all of this seemed very strange as he made his way into the trees, as he waited for them to approach he heard a low rumble which quickly grew into a full blown earthquake. Barely hanging on to the tree he had perched himself in he then watched in awe as a Golem emerged from the ground, a being far stronger than himself, in this environment there was no way he could beat it, and like any beast it was unlikely that this golem had any qualms about smashing it's environment in defeat it's enemy.

As the Golem thudded along and made it's way outside the forest Rufus watched it engage the group as Rufus himself debated whether to join the fray or continue observation.

'What is Vex talking about? Why is he bringing up fairy-tales to people he doesn't even know? He must must know something about what's going on with this talk about people who could control the elements with special objects.'

Damian walked along his new companions quietly as they headed toward the forest. Vex's questions kept him busy enough in his head that he had not noticed the time it took to get to the forest. It seemed to be a much shorter journey than it had actually been. He would have continued walking straight into the forest without even noticing if it had not been for the quake.

The earth began to crumble all around them. Damian was finding it difficult to stay on his feet. When it was over He looked around to make sure the others were okay. Vex Had fallen, but seemed to be alright, and Virgil was busy calming down his horse.

A golem appeared from the forest edge. It stood tall and its display of strength was highly intimidating. It was definitely a magnificent sight to behold. Damian had never seen a creature quite like this one, but he felt like he like he had grown up around this type of being.

Damian could see that the others were getting nervous at the sight of it. Virgil appeared to be preparing for a conflict with it.

"Wait. We don't know why it's here. We shouldn't be the first to attack."

Now that things settled down a bit and the golem was before them, Vex could feel the magical energy flow from it. It was coming off in such strong waves it was almost nauseating. Vex swore he almost saw a glow near the left mid torso, if anything that's where he felt the energy coming from at its strongest. Drawing his sword he let out a silent small curse, "Damn it, looks like it is one of them."

Taking a look at his two comrades he wanted to make sure they were ready to fight then Damian spoke,
"Wait. We don't know why it's here. We shouldn't be the first to attack."

Vex just shook his head in anger and spoke, "This thing is unnatural, it's radiating off such a evil magical energy. There is no reason to know why its here. You saw how it just trampled through the forest, if left to it own who knows what it will do. For all we know it might be going straight for the town. I for one won't let it get that far."

Holding his sword in his right hand he let go off his grip with his left and pointed a finger at Virgil and keeping his eye on the golem shouted, "You boy, you should be able to at least feel something from this creature. After all I sense some type of magical energy from you, so what are you exactly?"

Then going back to his former grip on his sword he stared at the golem and mentally cursed himself for what he was about to do. Vex started to go in for a frontal assault on the golem, dragging his sword on the ground causing dust to fly up. No sooner then he was an arms length of the golem from the golem, he was sent sprawling by it's left arm. Rolling around for about five feet before he stopped and got himself up Vex spoke to himself, "Thing is faster then I thought, looks like i'm gonna need to be a little more careful."

(OOC: Go ahead and have the golem direct attacks at you. He can manipulate the earth slightly, like sending jagged rocks at you or throwing small stone spears. Also be aware he can regenerate. After a few more post Vex will manage to kill him off, but he will be left unconscious.)

"Damn it, looks like it is one of them. This thing is unnatural, it's radiating off such a evil magical energy. There is no reason to know why its here. You saw how it just trampled through the forest, if left to it own who knows what it will do. For all we know it might be going straight for the town. I for one won't let it get that far."

Virgil raised an eyebrow, 'one of them'? what could he mean by that? One of what? There were obviously many things that he had yet to learn about in this world. For instance, Virgil had never imagined something like this would be living in a forest, creating the earthquakes.

"You boy, you should be able to at least feel something from this creature. After all I sense some type of magical energy from you, so what are you exactly?"

Virgil didn't much like being spoken to like a child, or having a finger pointed at him, how rude. It was true though, there was a strange aura radiating off the giant. Virgil couldn't quite understand what it was but he knew it was there.

"I can feel it." he answered, hand still on his sword. "and as for what I am...well that is not important right now for I fear we are in danger if we don't act against this unnatural being quickly!"

But it seemed Vex already knew that, as he was off running ahead, sword unsheathed ready to attack.

Virgil looked to Damian and sighed. "Well looks like we better help the man before that creature kills him for acting so rash." The Elf smiled pulling his sword from it's home "Duke, you stay!" He ordered the horse which seemed to understand, elves were beings of the earth and nature, it wasn't a wonder if anyone knew what Virgil was.

Then, the elf ran after Vex, he was caught by surprise as the man was suddenly flung past him by the creature, it was obviously a lot faster than expected, Virgil made sure to take note but now looked like the best time to attack. He ran underneath the Golem, bringing his sword round to it's leg, metal hitting... skin... which felt a lot more like rock, his sword getting wedged inside.

"Damn!!" Virgil tried to unjam it but the Golem got to better of him, kicking it's leg up and sending the elf flying into a tree, his sword still stuck in it's leg.

"That thing... is nastier than it looks" He muttered rubbing his back.

'evil magic? My companions must be more than just regular men to sense something like that.'

Damian had hope to turn the creature away by a more peaceful manner that Vex was suggesting, but he did not know what Vex knew. Damian had very little connection to magic itself, so he was to distinguish between different types. His connection was with the elements themselves. If the golem was a source of evil energy then it must be stopped.

Before Damian had a chance to pull his blade from its sheath, Vex took off running. He was going to take the creature head on even if he had no help. Did Vex trust them that much already, or was he just being foolish? Damian could not help but wonder what was driving this man.

Damian swung his saber to his side and it ignited into a red flame. He was now ready to fight. He sprinted alongside Virgil as the charged into battle. They were right behind Vex ready to aid him, but the creature sent him flying back at them. Damian was forced to jump to the side to avoid being hit by his ally.

He ran in a large arc out of the reach of the golem to be able to find a position to attack it from behind. Virgil had distracted it enough to allow him to do so, but had been sent flying away without his weapon.
Damian lunged at the beast thrusting his burning blade at its bare back. The sword penetrated its flesh a few inches, but before Damian could retracted his blade the golem turned around swinging its massive arm at him.
Damian was knock sideways sliding across the ground. When he was able to compose himself he began to notice a sharp pain in his left arm. The creature had broken it. It would not be safe for Damian to charge in again in this condition. This would have been especially dangerous since his sword was left burning in the creature's back.

"This is not turning out very well now is it?"

Rufus decided it would be better if he intervened, the creature was obviously not their ally, he could just question them after it was dealt with. Observing his spear he then examined what the golem was made of, being made of tough rock he didn't see how his spear was going to pierce straight through, he wasn't superhuman by any means, he'd break his spear quicker than he'd make a dent in it. So instead he had another idea, pulling off a branch off the tree he was stood on he hurled it at the back of the Golem's head.

"Hey big guy, turn around!"

Rufus stood up, waving his arms to get it's attention before holding his spear on his shoulder and crouching down to look at it.
