Degra was engulfed by light, kept in an almost catatonic state as the magic did its thing. Her eyes were closed and she was stood in an almost meditative stance with feet set shoulder width apart, arms hanging loosely by her sides and her head tilted downwards. It was a very relaxed pose. The light that had engulfed her faded to nothing, and she was floating in the air for a moment before sinking to the ground and landing lightly on her feet.

Opening her eyes slowly, she was greeted by a scene of beauty. Lush green, rolling grasslands for as far as her eyes could see, a bright and clear blue sky save for a light scattering of pearly white clouds. Looking up, she judged that it must be noon here, as the sun was positioned at its highest. A light breeze swept gently across the landscape, shifting the grass in a motion similar to a calm sea. It felt nice and cool on Degra's skin. She felt at ease here. It was the kind of place she thought of when hearing the word "paradise".

She knelt down, almost in reverance, placing a palm firmly on the ground and bowing her head. She felt an unusual sensation. It was as though the very ground was speaking to her, responding to her touch. This was sacred ground, she realised. In ages past, a battle ground that played host to some great battles of the kind only told of in legend. To be a part of that, to be given the opportunity to fight a battle of her own on these hallowed grounds, is a great honour for her. She uttered a prayer to Gaia, promising to honour the ancient warriors who once fought here as well as to faithfully represent the legacy of her own kind.

Once finished, she sat down with her legs crossed and hands placed on each knee. She breathed in deeply, taking in all the smells of her surroundings. Exhaling slowly, she remained calm as she awaited her opponent. She hoped that whoever it was would fight bravely and honourably and provide a good challenge. For now, she remained calm and relaxed. Her train of thought had somewhat of a rejuvenating effect on her in the sense that when she engages in battle, she shall do so feeling as refreshed as she would after a good night's sleep.

Coco stepped into the field from the forest and said, "Wait. This doesn't seem right. It feels like there's something changing the air and ground here. I feel like we've been cut off from the rest of the world." Rieko walked up beside Coco. He looked around the area and said, "I know. This is all wrong. I don't get it. We were invited to a tournament. I've been running into problems with our equipment since we showed up to the hotel. I think there's some kind of dampening to test our abilities and see if we could fight without magic."

Rieko and Coco walked further into the field. They noticed that their highly technological bracelets fueled by magical energy were shut down. They'd have to rely on martial arts if they were to compete in this area. There was someone standing on a hill in the distance. Rieko and Coco looked and recognized a woman. Coco waved her arms and scythe like a cheerleader almost as if she was dancing. She said, "We - are - here! We - are - Rieko - and - Coco!"

Rieko stood with his arms crossed holding a staff. His face was forward, but his eyes were looking towards the right at Coco. She was holding her position with her arms outward and knees bent. Her eyes looked towards the left at Rieko and asked, "What? If we're going to do anything, we might as well do it in style." Rieko replied, "I think we were invited for another reason." Coco said, "It was that mysterious man who invited us. You can never be too careful with men who wear masks."

Rieko and Coco paused for a while. Coco sighed and asked, "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Rieko replied, "Yeah. Let's give it to her. I'm hungry." They casually walked towards to woman standing on the hill. When they eventually got to her, Rieko and Coco bowed at the waist. They stood straight and looked at the woman's face. They wanted to show respect towards one who'd show for battle. Rieko said to the woman, "Hi. We're honored you'd show up for battle, but we decided to forfeit. We wish you luck in this tournament." They turned around and started to walk away. Rieko and Coco never had anything to prove. They knew this tournament was a way to see how they'd function in real life instead of cyberspace. When they almost got to the forest, their bracelets turned back on. Rieko laughed a little bit.

"We - are - here! We - are - Rieko - and - Coco!"

Degra opened her eyes at the sound of someone yelling from the distance. Looking to where the voice had come from, she saw two people making their way towards the hill she was sat. One of them was waving enthusiastically. The weretiger raised an eyebrow. Two opponents? Hardly seemed fair considering this was supposed to be a tournament. But still, not being one to complain, she stood up and stretched her muscles once more. Keeping her eyes focused on the two as they made their way towards her, she thought that they looked a bit weird. One of them, the male, had brown and grey hair that was held up in a bandanna and his clothing seemed rather cumbersome. The other, a younger female by the looks of her, had blue hair and wore a long, puffed out dress that hardly seemed something one could fight in comfortably. The two were unlike anything Degra had ever seen throughout her entire life.

She waited patiently for them to reach her, arms held loosely either side of her. Maintaining a relaxed pose, she was nonetheless ready to fight. When the two arrived, they both bowed in what seemed a respectful enough gesture. Degra remained on guard, however, as she nodded in acknowledgement. It was a gesture neither malicious nor friendly. Then the male spoke; "Hi. We're honored you'd show up for battle, but we decided to forfeit. We wish you luck in this tournament."

Well, that was certainly unexpected.

The two turned and walked off, leaving Degra rather unsure of whether this was some kind of trick. It definitely wouldn't have been the first time that someone had resorted to such trickery. They were nearly at the forest when they suddenly appeared to be distracted by something.

Coco reached the river first that was on the other side of the forest. It took them only a few minutes to get past the bamboo trees and small bushes. The boat was still there, which would take them back to the hotel. Coco said, "What do you feel like doing?" Rieko replied, "I feel like seeing the hot springs and ordering food. We should enjoy that hotel while we can." Coco had a big grin and said, "Oh! I love how our snowy hotel has a deck and brick paths around the hot springs nearby! I want to get spring rolls and sushi!" Rieko chuckled and said, "I could use sushi too."

They boarded the boat and took off. Rieko stood with a bamboo pole to push the boat down the river. Coco sat at the front of the boat happy to take advantage of their vacation. The hotel was at the foot of the mountains with a surrounding fog. The docks leading to the hotel were to the right of the river downstream. Once they were docked, they ran to their hotel room. Rieko and Coco changed into their swimsuits. Coco put on a striped bikini with white stripes over navy blue. Rieko kept his bandanna and put on board shorts with green sides next to an orange front and back.

Rieko sat in the hot springs with Coco to his right. His arms were relaxed on the deck with his head laying back. There were square plates with spring rolls and sushi on the deck. Coco was chewing on a spring roll with a happy look on her face. Coco asked, "Do you think they'll get mad at us for skipping the tournament?" Rieko picked up his plate. He thought about it and looked down at the forest and river since he was facing away from the hotel. Fog covered the horizon over the trees. Then, a snow monkey rose his head above the water. It stared at Rieko and Coco. Rieko replied, "I don't care if the snow monkey doesn't care." Coco said, "Awwww. That snow monkey is so cute."
