Does anyone know how to get the PC version to run full-screen on a laptop? When I had Vista the game would automatically start stretched to full-screen, but now trying to play it on Windows 7, I get a 640x480 box.

If the game's window is framed by nothing but black, therefore representing the game IS indeed in full-screen, but isn't getting stretched to fit your screen... It's instead being displayed at it's true resolution, but "full-screen".

If that is the case, it's probably a display setting you need to work out that has to do with 'scaling' and aspect ratios. Go to your graphics card control panel (whatever that may be; nVidia, ATI Catalyst or Intel Graphics, etc.) and see if there ar
e 'scaling' options you can mess around with, or switch to 'stretch'.

I was first going to suggest scaling as well, but then I recalled a launcher for FFVIII that will allow you to actually run the game in higher resolutions. Turning scaling on is still a good idea, but this should make things look nicer too. The original link to the launcher seems to be broken, but somebody else uploaded it here. Make sure you have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 runtimes installed or else the launcher won't work. Oh yeah, and you'll need to be running the game in Hardware mode too (set with FF8Config). HTH!

Got it! Got an error code 740 first then realised I must run the launcher as an admin...thanks guys, much appreciated! :)

I'm not a fan of Windows 7. It's incompatible with everything. Vista or XP is a lot better in my opinion.
See if you can't go to the FVIII configuration program and change the resolution settings. Also, check your laptop's graphic card settings and see if you can hard change it. You should be able to do it specifically for the game. Typically, you can just right click on the desktop and go directly to the graphics card settings. That's how Nvidia works, at least.

nny because Im having problems NOT wanting it to run in full screen, the game just wont go in window mode.

For better or worse it doesn't have one. I don't know if there's a mod that allows for window mod but I don't think so.

Whoops! Didn't see you started a thread about it. I would have posted it there.
