yes i noticed this too, its not too bad, just save before a dungeon and your home free, plus levelling up isn't as long as other FF's.

There really should be save points in the DS version because you don't know when the next boss or hard fight is about to happen and you'll get what happened to me and go on a mad success spree followed by a death that lost me four levels

Save points let you know your limits.
