I'm not sure that was ever an American term.

I didn't even know Wog also meant black people until I met Lew. It always just meant an extremely annoying ethnic person.

It just derivedd from the gollywog dolls which were all black with bright red lips
a guy i used to work with has a collection of wogs
Theyre kinda creepy. There was talk of renaming them over it being offensive. Watched it on the right stuff and not one black person in the audience cared one little bit. Which seems to be the case these days with oversensitivity when it comes to race gender and religion.

He looks like a wog. He is servile. He does the gardening and farming, etc.
So people decided to make him blue in later remakes as a result.
However, he's also got elements of Arabic in him. The flying carpet. The clothing, etc.
He's basically an exotic 'other', in contrast to the rest of the DB Japanese and Oriental style cast. But he has offended people.

Fantastic Mr Fox is definitely worth watching...especially if you're into Wes Anderson's other works.
The animation is neat and the dialogue was solid. It was just an all-around good film that took me by surprise.

Golliwogs are offensive because of the Blackface comedy and dance white people used to do, till they stopped it in the 70's. They used to dress up in black face-paint, make giant red lips and wear slave clothing and act stupid and dumb. So that's why Golliwogs are banned in some countries and why some people can't look at Mr . Popo without feeling uncomfortable or insulted. The Golliwogs got most of their attention in the Noddy books. And they were dicks and keep on stealing things from Noddy and Noddy's car.
Wog is also another name for the flu in Australia. So you're basically calling somebody a sickness or a disease. And Golli or Golly is what people used to say when they were shocked or surprised. So it's basically " Oh Gosh, Disease " ! Doll.
If I was Black or Dark skinned and somebody called me a Wog, I would be offended yeah.
