I know it sounds crazy but since he was once a hero and since he misinterpreted the truth, does anyone think he can possibly return to the side of good? [After all, he is in a way similar to the tragic dark hero concept and the hero cycle, where a hero rises, suffers, gives into evil, but in the end redeems himself by returning to the side of good. [Also, redemption is powerful theme in ffvii [look at cloud and Vincent] so why should it not be possible for Sephiroth, especially since in Dissidia it is hinted there is sorrow in him?]

I can't imagine the sheer whining and complaining if this were to happen. While there is nothing wrong thinking that Sephiroth can become good, there are actually people who worship him as an ultimate evil badass villain.

Personally, I feel that this should not happen. He is meant to be the main villain all along. The backstory, I believe, is just to develop him as a character so players can understand why he want to destroy the planet.

But well, such thing happened to some villains in FF before, FFIX spoiler:
Kuja realized his evil ways in FFIX
so while it's highly unlikely, it's not impossible. still, it will feel extremely awkward for it to happen.

It'd be a very long process, but I've seen him in Crisis Core, and I have this one line.Permission to return...granted.

In theory it's not impossible for any villain to turn good. In practice that would require another game and I'd rather SE stopped with ff7 and started whoring other ff installments. It would also require competence to pull it right and that's something that's mostly lacking from certain SE teams. I doubt even the original team could do it justice.

In the end I think it shouldn't happen to begin with but just for arguments sake yeah, I'd say that it is possible. After all he wasn't inherently evil or something. Even when he turned to the villains club you can't really say straight that he was evil. And perhaps it's even wrong to discuss ff7 characters with terms like bad or good as most of the the black and white boundaries where eliminated.

Even if he was to turn to good again, I highly doubt anyone would welcome him anyhow. Considering everything he's done, I honestly don't think anyone in that game would forgive him.

Well sure he's done some bad things, but JENOVA was involved. No matter who was pulling the strings all that time, its cells do make people crazy. I mean, that could have been Cloud doing all of those things, or Angeal.

^ Not really. Meteor was Sephiroth's plan. He was pulling the strings.
