It's come to my attention (after letting my idiot friend borrow FFX) that a great deal of FF characters have an obsession with strange and repulsive hair-dos that are not only weird as a kidney that shoots out David Bowie CDs, they are also actually impossible to create in real life. Seymour's hair in particular but people like Cloud and to some extension Sephiroth have impossible or in the latter case's, just really odd and unusal hair. Now as FF13 comes upon the horison, we have a man with an afro that holds a chocobo in it. Is this an aspect of JRPGs as a whole or of just FF? I, personally have only been able to sit though two other JRPGS, Paper Mario and Xenosaga, the later never completed due to ridiculous Boss fights that require you to waste more elixers then *insert some drawn out Japanese Metaphor here*

Discuss my revolation please, as I listen to the David Bowie that is curent forming from my urinary track as talked about above.

I think it's rather cool that they have strange and sometimes impossible hair dos. XD

It makes the game more fantasy-like, which is what Final Fantasy is about.

I mean if they had boring hair dos then someone would be complaining that it's not very creative and that whoever creates these games aren't very imaginitive with characters designs etc.

So yeah I don't find their hair dos repulsive. Unique and creative are my thoughts about it.

I agree on some level with that, but the thing of the matter is, I find it a bit odd and di*stupid*ffrent and cannot take the main villian seriously when he comes in looking like a small colony of smurfs have built Sky-scrapers out of your dead cells. I have nothing aganist odd hair or creative hair, when your spikes can be used as a secondary attack I believe you belong in Bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo.

Metaphorically.

Lol I love the title of this thread :monster:

I agree, I think the far out hair dos and character designs in general add to the element of fantasy.

Also I think the crazy hair dos make the characters more distinct and recognizable. I've noticed that minor characters tend to have normal hair styles so I think that the strange hair styles are used to make the main characters more distinct, unique etc.

When I saw Seymour's hair before I played FFX i found it hard to take him seriously because of his hair. But when I actually played the game I got used to it and was drawn towards his character. I hardly even noticed the sheer ridiculousness of his hair as I was playing.

Exactly! When me and my friend got to the first level when we see Seymour, I remember us laughing for several straight minutes over the microscopic city that is Guado's 'do' and whilst he did show his colors as a very very very good FF villain, I could not bat away from his hair to the point where I had to leave the room when he appeared.

I'm going to have to agree with Kandy. When I first saw Seymour's hair I found it extremely hard to take him seriously, what with it resembling pigtails and all. Although, think that if they made hair just plain old brown or blond for all of the villains, it would be pretty boring. Now that I think about it, most of the heroes have brown hair, so they're probably making the villains elaborate to contrast this. And these are Final Fantasies, so I don't really see anything wrong with them getting creative.

I think Square is starting to get out of this habit a bit, when I look at FFXII and FFXIII, a lot of people have grey, blond or dirty blond hair. Minus Lightning, Serah and Vanille of course.

Anyway, Seymour turned out to be one of my favorite characters so I think his hair helped make me remember him. All in all, I love it when they get creative and different with the designs. Honestly, if they gave him blue hair but in a normal style, it would look even more strange to me.

When I first saw Seymore's hair, I thought that he was just another one of those comic-relief characters. After playing the game and seeing what happens, I was shocked.

I was also shocked GoW, but now I believe it just gets obnoxious, not just with Seymour. I mean, lets say Seymour had long flowing blue hair, not to the extrame of sephiroth, about how he had it, minius the small buildings on his scalp, I would have been like

"Oh my god! This strange man just joined my party, he looks rather homo-erotic but still seems cool, maybe he'll kick that annoying piece of shit Tidus in the balls and make him grow new ones, at the very least being a kind of adv- ONLY FUCKING SHIT ANIMA!"

But since he wore his buildings I was kind of like this,

"SHIT! Another Comic Relif gu- HOLY SHIT ANIMA!"

You see, it's not only Seymour. Whilst Sephiroth's hair is just a nit-pick, People like Cloud, whose spikes look deadlier then the buster sword.

I have to admit that when I first began to play the FF series I thought it was odd the hairstyles these characters had, but I was new to it, so of course I was going to think it weird. However it's become almost expectant to see someone in the FF games with a rather off hair style, it wouldn't be FF if someone didn't at LEAST have a weird and impossible to replicate hair style.

=]

Thats where all the fun is, it's all in the hair.

Ive always liked the insane hair do's of FF, it also seems to be the more mental the hair, the badder the character is, ( I shat it when I saw Yunalesca, I knew she was gunna give me trouble after seeing that barnet) but anyway, I saw Seymours and I just thought, wtf is that/ It's some random style and it's bright BLUE. Then he spoke and I was like FFS...

Seymours hair, I think, just looked stupid, never had an issue with the rest of the mad do's in the FF world, it keeps it interesting. It's boring when all the human/ish characters just look....human, it just looks dull (Looks at FFXII) we see this shit on a day to day basis irl, so a bit of crazy styling and mad hair colours is something I like

The main reason they made Seymour's hair so bizzare is because he is half-Guado. They wanted to emphasise the guado element in him.

I didn't mind it. It made him stand out, and since he was half-guado and they have weird hair of a different structure to humans, I was able to say to myself "well Seymour can hold his hair in that way because his hair is different to that of humans".

Though guado hair is never as ambitious as Seymour himself, I believe they just tried to emphasise his guado element by making his hair like that, and the guado do seem to have weird hairstyles of peculiar shapes we'd be unfamiliar with on a human. Seymour had long hair, and of a colour humans do not have, and is able to shape it in a bizzare way because it is of stronger structure to human hair.

In general hair is used to FF as to show character and such, and also just for general design and quirkyness. Normal hair would be boring wouldn't interest me as much. I ike designs to be interesting. As Kandy said it helps keep the fantasy element in the game, and helps make it creative. As you listen to Bowie, (and urinate Bowie all over the place?! :gasp:), you should come to know that weird = amazing!

Crazy hair, huh? I can see it, but it doesn't bother me. On the contrary, I think it's really neat that all the male characters don't all have bowl cuts. That would be boring. It also goes to add to the whole fantasy theme, and I believe that you can tell alot about an FF character, especially the males by their hair. It's like a piece of their character.

But this does come from someone who that that Queen Amidala's Ep. 1 outfits were very stylish, and loved her hair, so there you go.

I have to agree that Seymour's hair was....out of the ordinary, even when it comes to crazy hairdos in general. But at least Seymour could blame his crazy hair on his Guado blood. I wonder how he sleeps though, shouldn't his hair..break off?

I sometimes feel that perhaps they should work a little more on differencing the characters when it comes to their face shapes, eyes, and noses, and body types, instead of just giving them hysterical...david bowie/j-rock...hair..things. Make a good and outstanding character without having to put on some piece of surreal modern art junk on top of their head, screaming for attention.

I applause FFXII for trying to be more subtle, even if the faces wasn't that differenced, and Vaan still had that freaking J-rock hair style.

To be completely honest, Cardboard~Exodus, to me it sounds like you just don't like Seymour. I mean, everybody thinks his hair is funny, but I think you have lost to him so many times, you just have to relive your anger.....so you make fun of his hair.

But that's just my psycho annalist. lol.

When I first saw Seymour's hairstyle, I actually thought it was due to his position of leadership more than anything else, so it didn't really bother me. I was more afraid of his open-chested outfit--I have an unnatural fear of Alec Baldwin ever since watching "The Cat in the Hat" and for some reason Seymour reminded me of him. :stressedpanda:

I thought Seymour's hair was really weird at first, but I eventually got used to it after a while. So what if it was bizarre? There have been numerous hairstyles in the series. Just take a look at some of the others. Hairstyles don't really annoy me tbh.

When I first saw Seymour's hair, I knew right away he was some evil person. It gives him an aura of evil. It isn't natural XD But I had to admit, it looked cool. Made his character uniqueness. All the hairstyles in the series make the characters look unique, which adds flavor to the games.

Actually, I have to say that I thought Seymour's hair complimented his sexy (you know it is, ladies xD) robe outfit rather well. His hair frames his body which looked pretty aesthetic in my opinion.

But If he was wearing a t-shirt and jeans, then yeah, he'd look effin' ridiculous =P
