Supernatural anomalies have been appearing since the middle of the twentieth century, during the Second World War. Prisoners of war were subjected to horrendous experimentations, which often resulted in death. Survivors of the poison gas were branded freaks of nature due to their development of inhuman powers. Fearing an uprising, the Nazis kept the small group of mutants a secret. Anyone that dared to escape was shot on sight.

Seventy-five years have passed since the end of the war and as the world looks brightly to the future, it knows nothing of the deadly secrets that could threaten it once more.

A sinister organisation only known as the Black Hand has risen. Based in Russia, they are mutants with one sole intention – reveal their existence and create the Third World War to avenge their grandfathers.

On the other side of the coin, there is MERIT (Mutant Ease Response Intelligence Taskforce). With two mutant units in MI5 and the CIA, each work towards the same purpose – to maintain peace in the world and resolve situations quickly. However, it may seem they have met their match in the Black Hand.

But with the mutant numbers mysteriously dwindling down and the Black Hand already engaging in terrorist attacks across Europe, it’s down to MERIT to stop them and uncover the horrifying truth behind the origins of the mutants.

Rules

No powerplaying, godmodding or metagaming. The vast majority of you should know what they are by now. If you don’t, then go look at the forum rules. I don’t accept any of them being used. If these are broken, you WILL be kicked out. No questions asked.

No killing. This could relate to powerplaying in some way or another, but this is still a rule that has to be enforced. As above, anyone who kills another’s character will be kicked out. No questions asked. However, if you wish to kill one of your own non-playable characters, that is fine. In any case of a character being killed, you need their written permission to do so.

Powers have to go through me first before a template can go through. That means you can contact me either via PM, MSN or any other means. This is because there can be such competition for powers that it's organised better this way.

Also with powers, they cannot be conflicted. For example, a character cannot have pyrokinesis and hydrokinesis because they are complete opposites.

The powers must also be linked somehow. For example, a psychic character would have telepathy, telekinesis and any other relevant psychic powers.

MERIT

MERIT has existed since the end of World War Two in 1945 and was formed to keep the secret of mutants from the rest of the world. Their main base of operations is in England. Their members are primarily mutants, although it is not uncommon for humans to work alongside them. Their work revolves around solving worldwide cases that are above the likes of MI5 and the CIA. However, they have been tracking the situation of the Black Hand.

Rogue

Those not caught up in the conflict between MERIT and the Black Hand prefer to remain rogue. Whether their intentions are good or evil does not matter since they like to keep to themselves or hang around other rogues. There are some that prefer to sometimes work with MERIT or the Black Hand, although this is not usually the case. It will become inevitable that they will become involved at some point.

The Black Hand

A sinister group that emerged from the secret horrors of the Second World War. It originally came together as a society known as New Directions as support for mutants that were hurting. However, many defected and formed The Black Hand, which is now based in Russia. As revenge for torturing and killing their ancestors, the group intends to create World War Three and reveal their inhuman nature. Their rivals are MERIT, which is the opposite and want to coexist peacefully with humans.

This looks very interesting, and while that may be, I fear the "no power-playing" rule could be a problem with there being superhuman abilities being in play. That's the only problem I see there being in the near future. From that notion, I'll be joining, and a template will be up as soon as I can think of a good power, and other such things.

Also, love the idea. :ryan:
 
I'm too lazy to make the entire character, so I made out everything but the history. I'll do that either later today or tomorrow.

Name: Orion Smith
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Personality: Orion is a cheerful friendly guy. Almost everyone he knows he calls friend, and is always willing to help. Occasionally, he even uses his abilities to help, though he hides it as best as possible (example: Making someone have bad karma if they're picking on his friends). However, by that same token, everyone who knows Orion also knows that he's hiding something that he doesn't want to talk about. They accept this at face value, and move on.
Power(s): Orion has 3 different abilities: Animation, Sound Manipulation, and Probability Manipulation.
Animation is the ability to make inanimate objects, or petrified people, move. Orion uses this ability frequently within his own home, as he has self-created wooden golems and a few suits of medieval knight armor he has bought. The suits also double as protection, as they came with their own weaponry. He can also manipulate corpses, though he finds this very distasteful and doesn't do it unless direly needed.

Sound Manipulation is exactly what it says. Orion carries around a small harmonica with him, and though he has no talent in it what-soever, beautiful music is played whenever he plays, due to him manipulating the sound. He also uses this ability as a weapon, letting loose high-pitched or extremely loud noises to distract his assailants.

Probability Manipulation is, quite simply put, choosing what karma does. If he chooses for someone to have a really bad day, it'll happen. The reverse is also true. This ability isn't that strong, as it cannot do anything beyond break one bone in a single, but is helpful to distract opponents such as random objects being thrown or rivals of theirs appearing just when they try to confront Orion. Orion also uses this ability extensively in gambling, what he does for a living now. He also used it, once, to earn a million dollars from a game show when he first turned 18.

Bio: The first 5 years of Orion's life are a little fuzzy. What clearly stands out is that he had shown mutant powers when he turned three, and his parents, frightened, eventually turned him in to an orphanage to be raised.

They weren't heard from again, although they did Orion a favor; they never told the orphanage he was a mutant.

At this point, Orion began to actively conceal his abilities. He was placed into school after a year, and there he was introduced to the intricacies of music. When he had been told to choose an instrument for the year, he had picked the harmonica. While this was his main instrument, he also practiced others, learning what sounds seemed natural for each one. He still prefers the harmonica, and keeps one on his person today. He plays whenever he gets the chance, the theme depending on his mood.

After a few years of him excelling in Elementary School, he graduated into middle school. (I have no idea if they change the names in Europe, so eh.) There he was introduced to gambling, though obviously illegal; he earned pocket change by gambling against the other kids. During this time he made full use of his probability manipulation; he also managed to persuade the kids to let him keep playing when, after he won so much, the others tried to keep him away from the games; at this point, he made sure to lose every once and a while.Graduating into High School, he found use for his animation skill: clay animation is really simple if you can move the objects without your hands and can use a normal video camera.

He scored highest on all classes requiring self-styled animations.

The rest of his high-school life was uneventful (more like I'm lazy. If you want a high school life, I'll edit it in). Graduating out at the age of 18, he immediately entered into a game show and won the grand prize. He spent that money buying himself a modest house, and to begin his gambling career.

Now, almost a year later, (IE he's almost 19), Orion has a very reliable source of income, has 3 different suits of medieval armor situated in his room, office area, and entrance, and has a few self-carved wooden statues. He also has a number of western art sculptues depicting cow-boys holding guns (he got rid of the fake guns and replaced them with real ones, fully loaded [DON'T TOUCH THAT TRIGGER, BOY!!!]). He generally spends his time listening to music and seeing if he can track down other mutants via the public news.

To add to my previous post, I also have a few questions concerning the information that will go in my temp.

1.) For the powers, what exactly are we limited to? Is there a limit to how many powers we can have?

2.) I'd like to know how far advanced technology is in this. Is this going to be just set in the modern Earth or is it an AU?
 
1) There really isn't a limit. But I wouldn't like it to surpass 5-6.

What I was meaning, is as far as catestrophic damage they can induce. And if the powers are around the same property(fire, water, electricity, etc..), would they be considered one main power or several indiviudal powers.

My example being revlolving as the following

Fire>Solar Energy>Lava>Heat in Atmosphere.

I want to be sure before I even start my temp.
 
As far as damage they can make, they can be quite devastating. However, not a world-damaging risk. They would be several powers like the example you've produced. Like I say, when you're presenting your power, PM me.

Appearance: William is a tall, very well built man. He is at least six foot four inches and weighs in at approximately one hundred and ninety to two hundred pounds; all of it however is pure muscle from years of training and experience. He has cropped black hair with a few strands of gray and dark, almost crimson like eyes. Running across his left eye is a long thin scar however this doesn’t affect his eyesight as he can still open that eye slightly. He has a light beard which is very dark with a few strands of gray. His skin is tanned and slightly creased from age and fatigue.

He often wears a simple, olive green hooded cloak underneath which he wears a tight, black vest revealing his muscular arms and a tattoo on his right arm of a dragon. He also wears plain best cargo pants and heavy black military boots. Finally, he often wears a gloves or knuckle dusters when fighting due to his hand-to-hand speciality

Personality: Powerful, intimidating but wise, William has been though a lot in his life to make him the person he is now. Often he is the fight first speak later kind of person but when those he feels he must protect are in the fray he will hold himself back, which most of the time can be a severe hindrance as it means he can’t use his full power in the battlefield. Luckily however, this only happens when he meets people like the family he lost.

A very quiet man, he is very knowledgeable on the Black Hand organisation due to his many encounters with them and as such is very well known by them.

Power(s): William has four different abilities which he has managed to hone and train in his many years fighting in this pointless war.

Fire “Magic” – This was the first ever ability that William discovered he could use and therefore is his most used ability. His fire magic can be used for a large variety of things such as the sending of large plumes of flame towards his enemy to creating large explosions. He can also use his fire abilities to give himself very limited flight capabilities and increase his attacking power .

One very special use of his flame abilities is that he can create a flame guide which can lead him to whatever he wills it such as Black Hand events and finding other people with abilities.

Superhuman Strength - Easily explained, he is capable of lifting weights far heavier than even ten normal men would be capable of lifting, can deal more damage with a single punch than natural.

Superhuman Durability – Can take massive amounts of damage without even a single scratch appearing on his body, however when attacked by other ability users, his durability is less but he is still capable of taking much more damage than any other normal ability user.

Bio: Once upon a time, William was not a violent man. Born the son of a wealthy man, he was treated as royalty but he never wanted any of it. Forsaking his original name, he ran away from home at the young age of eleven, 1963. He quickly fell into a small crowd of orphaned children and they simply assumed he was an orphan too. Taking him in, they taught him to fight, steal and generally survive in the dark underworld world of mid-1960’s New York. On his 14th birthday, in 1967, his friends believed it would be fun to break into the local research centre and let loose all the animals inside, what they didn’t know was that it was in actuality a Black Hand research facility.

Security quickly found them but they resisted and in the ruckus, released a chemical compound that changed something within William. His DNA rewritten and a kind of fire running through his veins, he couldn’t control himself and the next thing he knew he was stood in a giant crater, everything around him set ablaze. He knew it was him; he knew that he had become some kind of… monster. So he ran.

But he couldn’t go far. The organisation that owned the research facility quickly found him but to his surprise, they offered him a job. Accepting it in fear of being killed he spent the next few years being trained by them, learning to use his ability and being trained in the art of hand-to-hand combat. Then came his 18th Birthday, 1971. They demanded he be tested and he was.

They brought to him what they called a “MERIT”. They demanded that William kill them. But William was no killer. He couldn’t bring himself to do it however and decided that an organisation like this is disgusting. He broke himself and the MERIT officer out and ran until they were free. Of course the MERIT officer attempted to recruit him but William refused, wanting nothing to do with these abilities anymore.

Twenty years later in 1991 and William still lives, hidden from the world with his family in a small home in the countryside. Having had daughter, who was now five and a son who was now just three years old he was very happy with his life until one day. He was simply gone for a few hours but when he returned, his entire home was destroyed by Black Hand as a few of their soldiers remained and all that remained were the three bodies, charred beyond recognition, of his wife and children. It was then that he vowed to not rest until he crushed Black Hand and it has been nineteen years since his private war began. A master of his own abilities he remains alone, never working with anyone for a long period of time but sending those with abilities who have hope to MERIT, the one organisation he only trusts because Black Hand wanted them destroyed.

Although she is perceived to be the kind of girl that anyone wants to be friends with, Josie puts on a brave front to mask the loneliness she feels inside. She doesn’t understand why she feels alone and has felt like this for a very long time. Regardless to say, Josie is an introverted individual and likes to spend time on her own whenever she is not on a mission for MERIT.

On the other hand, she can be a kind and polite young woman. She cares deeply for her team and has strong leadership skills that come with her charismatic personality. Josie is the one that everyone goes to for advice and confidentiality.

It is probably due to her brave personality and attitude of a survivor that she possesses physical abilities. Josie has always put her team first before anyone else and this may be seen as reckless, however, it is typically selfless in the eyes of others. Despite faking her attitude at times with others, she has a funny sense of humour and lightens up almost any dull situation.

Josie has demonstrated the following abilities thus far.

  • Superhuman strength: Ability to have a level of physical strength much higher than normally possible, given their proportions.
    [*]Superhuman reflexes: Ability to react faster than a normal human.

    [*]Superhuman senses: Ability to see, smell, taste, feel and/or hear more than a normal human.

According to MERIT’s research, it is highly likely that she may develop several more powers.

Standing at five foot and ten inches, Josie is taller than the average girl of her age. Bearing long, straight blonde hair that slips past her shoulders and baby blue piercing eyes, she has a slender and athletic figure. Her skin is very fair and translucent, not tanning easily. She typically wears a casual attire of a t-shirt, jeans, leather jacket and trainers.

People may fool her for being innocent and sweet, but that all changes when she initiates combat. Josie likes using her appearance to deceive her enemies and take advantage of their surprise.

Bio
The vast majority of Josie’s earlier life is shrouded in mystery like a book that is well hidden in a library. It was said that she developed her abilities at a young age after becoming an orphan and was taken in by MERIT. She was trained to respect the view that humans and mutants could coexist without conflict. Unfortunately, achieving that view may have been challenged by the rise of the Black Hand.

The fact that Josie cannot remember most of her life was because of the traumatic fire MERIT informed her about. Although she lost everything, she prefers to look to the future instead and forget about the past. And yet despite that, Josie is introverted, unable to socialise with others outside MERIT missions. It is because of this that she likes to spend time alone and ponder about her personal issues.

Because she has been with the organisation for many years now, Josie is a senior agent for MERIT – and the new field leader of the unit that operates. Her main concerns are stopping the Black Hand from exposing mutants and their secret seventy-five years of existence. But it seems that the more Josie gets involved in the conflict, the more that she’s beginning to unravel her past …

Does she want to go further? Did MERIT explain the full story to her? Could the past be the reason why she feels so alone? Josie is determined to see this through and is beginning to put her own priorities above MERIT. Only time will tell of the consequences to come.

Name: Amelia Hale

Gender: Female

Personality: A sado-masochist, with no morals, remorse, or consideration of life, she does what she needs to in order to fuel her sado-masochistic urges. She revels in the pain, both physical and mental, of others, and even herself. She takes pleasure in the repulsion, fear, and anguish she invokes in others.

Pride is her greatest personality trait, and also her greatest flaw. She loves to feel part of the greater scheme, and revels in her involvement in the current situation. However, she often under-estimates her opponents, which can potentially lead to her downfall. She cannot simply swallow this pride. It's a part of her, like a heartbeat.

Confident and sensual, she is also the perfect liar, able to fit in perfectly with a group of ordinary and extraordinary people without revealing her sociopathic and cruel nature. She can lull even the most cautious person into a false sense of security, and lure them straight under the guillotine, before beheading them herself.

Deep beneath the love of pain and the easy lies, there is a woman who has seen a lot and become disgusted with the ideals of typical humanity and mutants alike, wanting them all to be erased. She is a nihilist, through and through, though she would not risk her life by showing this. She has her own plans for the world, and the Black Hand and MERIT alike are involved in her little scheme.

Because of her inner nihilist, she is extremely self serving and arrogant, seeing allies and enemies alike as tools to be used, possibly even as chess pieces to be moved around the great board of life. She has no qualms about sacrificing others for her own survival, and despite her capabilities in battle, prefers to be the observer.

Powers: Amelia has four abilities in total. Her primary abilities are telekinesis and darkness manipulation and creation. She can easily lift a large tank with her mind and cast it across a field. Mutants are another matter. Depending on their mental resistance, her powers have varying degrees of effect on others. She can also send psychic blasts of energy at her opponents for heavy damage. She can also use this ability to make herself fly.

Her other primary ability, darkness creation and manipulation, allows her to tap into her soul to draw out a wellspring of dark magic. This can be used as a shield, a weapon, or pretty much anything within the limits of Amelia's imagination.

Her secondary ability is the production of illusions. She can create illusions. Due to the incorporeal nature of illusions, this ability has no limits aside from the targeted individual's mental limits and Amelia's own energy levels.. A strong mind can easily dispel her illusions and leave her without this powerful weapon in her arsenal.

Her tertiary ability is a lack of aging. She cannot die by natural means.

Standing at a height of five foot seven inches, Amelia is neither particularly tall or short. With a slender, athletic form, Amelia hasn't got any baby fat on her face and seems almost akin to a wraith. Her face is pale and slender, with no spots, scars or blemishes. She appears to be a refined upper-class woman in her early thirties.

Raven black hair extends to her middle back, straight and silky, with a white sheen whenever light shines upon it. Her deep, blood red lips are almost always turned upwards in a small smile, and the mysterious look is completed by a pair of bright green eyes, with needle thin pupils for a slightly feral image.

Amelia favors long dresses that extend to her ankles to give her an appearance of elegance and grace. These dresses are usually black, but occasionally white or red. They are rather old fashioned, from the eighteenth century or thereabouts.

When it actually comes to battle, Amelia is quick and to the point. Wearing a pair of skin-tight black trousers and a thin black t-shirt, she also wears ankle high boots which are good for both speed and durability. Amelia finishes off this dark arrangement with a pair of black gloves so she doesn't have to get her hands dirty.

Bio: Born in 1900 to a rich, upper class family of aristocrats, Amelia was denied nothing. Spoiled and selfish, she expected to be given everything for the rest of her life, and when she inherited her family's considerable fortune, she expected to live a life of luxury.

While on a democratic trip to Austria, the small country was invaded by Hitler's Nazis, and Amelia was taken. She made several diplomatic pleas and threats, but the Nazis didn't care, and she was subjected to their cruel experiments.

The scientists soon realized that their experiments were reversing the middle aged noble's years, making her young, and the experiments soon ceased. However, when she started to have nightmares, seeing her own illusions and moving objects in her sleep, it soon became clear that the illusions she was creating were affecting her. Amelia was losing control of her own mind.

While she was regaining control, she was heavily sedated and kept in a padded room until she regained control. She developed a nihilistic personality, and a love for the pain of others. This led her to join and co-found the Black Hand. A temporary measure, of course.

Name: Remilia Scarlet

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Personality: Quite the quiet and somewhat shy type, Remilia prefers to live and work alone. She’s quite nice to everyone she meets, and always tries to think logically and rationally. No matter what the circumstance, she always tries to take a neutral stance until one side becomes illogical, or against her personal views. She has no wish, nor desire to hurt anyone, and will always use force as a final option.

She is very formal, and speaks in long drawn out words. Not using phrases such as “I’m” or “they’re”, she will say, “I am” or “they are”. One can often find Remilia with her head buried in a book, for she loves to read. When not reading, one can find her playing a video game, or watching Sci-Fi movies, or even surfing the internet.

Very smart, and very quick thinking, Remilia knows how to use her environment to her advantage. Just as she is light on her toes, she can think on her toes, always making her a powerful opponent in combat. She is very determined, and it’s very hard to make her quit something once she has her mind set on it.

Powers: Lighting – Remilia’s main power is the ability to shoot lightning from her fingertips. She loves this power because it is featured in her favorite series of films, Star Wars. A very dangerous and powerful ability, being hit by her lightning can easily stop a man in his tracks, and kill him if not used with extreme caution. However, the downside to this power is that if Remilia gets wet while using it, she “short circuits”, and loses all energy, putting her in a dangerous spot. This ability is virtually useless underwater, and in the rain.

Flight: For periods of time, Remilia can fly. However, she has to be careful, lest she is seen. She typically only uses this at night, or when she’s too lazy to walk.

Materialization – The ability to conjure up weapons from thin air. The weapons formed by her can only be used by her. She also cannot create a weapon, if she has no idea how it works. Meaning, she couldn’t form a rocket launcher unless she was able to physically dismantle a real one, and figure out how it worked.

Short ranged teleportation – Remilia can teleport 100 yards away from a location. However, this is rather taxing if used with no restraint. Therefore, it should only be used in emergencies, or for a strategic advantage. She also has to be able to physically see the location, or have been to the location before to be able to teleport to it. Meaning, that in order to teleport into a bank vault, she has to be able to see the inside of it at least once, and be within 100 yards of it.

Side: Rogue, unless one side can be appealed to her more logical than her current side.

Remilia’s pink hair is the first thing just about everyone notices. More often than not, she’ll be stopped at random for a complement. She almost always has a cold look on her face, and even though it isn’t on purpose, it’s often off putting. It’s rare to see her smile, and even more rare to hear her laugh.

At 5,9, Remilia is somewhat on the shorter side, but not too short. She weighs in at exactly 103 pounds, petite and weak when it comes to upper body strength. Her attire consists of darker clothing. Very rare of her to wear a skirt, Remilia often wears unnecessarily huge baggy black pants. She cannot stand the feel of restrictive clothing, and is often wearing clothes that are too large for her.

At first glance, Remilia looks like a rather nice and gentle person, and this isn’t very far from the truth.

Bio: Remilia Scarlet has no family ties whatsoever. At the young age of six, she was left alone after her parents died. It was obvious that they were killed by mutants, like her. However, Remilia has no way of knowing who did it, or why it happened.

From that point on, Remilia started traveling the world alone. Focusing on learning as much as possible, while training her unique abilities. She has been approached by both Dark Hand members and MERIT members, both thinking to get her while she was young. Remilia quickly turned them both down, not wanting to get in their way, and also wanting to go her own way.

Remilia has toured the world, or at least most of it learning something new in every part, studying culture, among other things. Although Remilia has no actual formal education, one would find that in just ten minutes of speaking to her, that she is obviously a gifted, well educated young woman.

After a while, Remilia took to settling down. With no record of birth, she couldn’t simply walk out and get a job. Therefore, Remilia took to teleporting into bank vaults and stealing cash. She’s been able to live a rather comfortable lifestyle doing this. She currently lives in a flat, alone, and rather happy.

With the recent attacks on Europe, Remilia is determined to stop the culprits from going too far. She couldn’t care less what group it was, Remilia only wants the senseless violence to stop. She’ll team with either side if she has to, but her goals and her objectives are her own. With a strong sense of justice and morality, she is more often siding with MERIT, though she refuses to join.
