Help So...about Quina.

I'd advise leveling up Quina and getting some blue magic. There is a boss fight against the Earth Guardian later in the game, where you only have Quina and Zidane to fight with. Thanks to my dumb moves, I was stuck on that fight for a while. So don't be like me, actually use Quina and you should be fine.

Oh my god yes! I nearly forgot about this. I am on my second play through and now that you remind me I must level Quinna up before I get there.

I remember the first time I played it took me so long to beat that boss because I had no idea I'd be stuck with Quinna :(

A bit of a bump, but I'll play the ball anyway!

I found Quina, much to my suprise, to be pretty much the best character there is. Sure as some pointed, Quina's trance sucks really hard. That hardly even matters though, as trance becomes pretty useless for half the characters and you'll hit 9999 either way through some effort? Double black/white being the exception to trance and to some extent, jump.

I'll trade fancy trance animations that do 9999 damage to limit glove which does 9999 (albeit it's tricky), and to seal the deal you have whitewind(angelsnack/mightyguard. Casts better than the white mages, and hits as well as the big hitters. I'd say that makes Quina the best overall character to have.

Total necro.

Quina is one of 4 characters that can always do 9999 damage.

Zidane with Thievery
Freya with Dragon's Breath
Steiner with Shock
Quina with Frog Drop/Limit Glove.

Quina is certainly the most useful character to 'cheat' bosses at least in the early portion of the game; first 2 discs or so. After that I tend to prefer using one of the other characters, though that might just be because I don't really like Quina as a character. In the later portions of the game, I don't personally think it's worth the risk for limit glove as it becomes gradually less useful. Frog Drop is good to have, but then again I haven't found that it is powered up enough at any given point in the game relative to the abilities of other party members, unless you go out of your way to power it up and deliberately leave male/female/golden frogs to respawn frogs faster. Mighty Guard is pretty good too, aside from the MP cost.

Also, small irrelevant point, but Amarant can also do a guaranteed 9999 damage with Spare Change even though it's not totally practical :P

I'm not sure why, but in my latest playthrough, i enjoy haveing Quina in my party, mainly because im using her alot and so she has a fair amount of the Blue magic skills and thus is able to keep her damage high, plus Eat seems to come in really useful when im getting sick of random battles.

I Love her eat ability, and Mighty Guard/Angel snack/white wind, as it makes it useful against Enemies who rely heavily on status effects like Blind, poison and Silence, especially when i don't really have the Sphere things (AP i believe) to give them the preventative measures, Granted my mages have Loudmouth (i think thats it) to prevent silence, and my physical fighters with Bright eyes to prevent Blind.

Angel Snack comes in useful so often for me, and Quina is just a handy character to have about as he/she is so varied in her Offence and Defence Capabilities due to his/her Blue magic

I've used Quina on and off, he/she isn't one of the characters I never use actually :hmmm: I've found Twister to be quite useful at times, it's hard to find good wind spells in FF games often and this one is pretty handy.
