On facebook someone posted this article. It's about a year old. It has a huge arguement on this person's status between several different people. It basically says that processsed meats are dangerous and no one should purchase them ever again.

http://www.totalhealthbreakthroughs...declared-too-dangerous-for-human-consumption/

And I read that after eating a sandwich that contained bacon, salami, and pepperoni...

Thoughts?

Hm, MSG has always been known to be bad in high doses, which doesn't stop me from eating my instant ramen everyday. However I am wary of the source (ie the website), and their conclusions made from inferences. I think that if the WCRF is successful in creating an article to support and conclude this finding, I would pay more attention.

I've heard about the whole debate on Nitrates in foods causing cancer and Alzheimer's. I didn't hear about it on tv or by personal research, but by a coworker. She reads a lot on personal health and how what we eat effects our body.

There have been studies and etc...that COULD possibly link Nitrates in foods (like bacon, pork, and hot dogs for example) to Alzheimer's disease. Here is a link to some of the research http://www.betterhealthresearch.com...use-deaths-from-alzheimers-diabetes-19252619/. Really though, it hasn't been proven yet. ...Ironically I think companies are picking up on this though, because I've seen "Nitrate free" hotdogs at the store, recently.

My thought on the idea is that generally if you look at the foods that Nitrates are in, they generally aren't that healthy for you. I don't eat them every day....only on occasion. If you eat them in moderation I'd think you'd be okay. Personally, if I'm going to die, I'm going to die happy with the occasional piece of bacon on my breakfast plate :wacky: ...It seems like everything else is out to get us, cellphones, smoking, or the tragic life-ending car accident. We are all going to go one way or another.

One thing you learn in science is the "cause and effect" idea. I've not seen the official study and its methods but does anyone know if the 7000 participants were 100% controlled during the study?

Without having scientific control over what the participants were eating, doing, how often etc the data only shows that the two things are linked.

I'd hazard a guess that those who are eating the high quantities of processed meats are also consuming a less-than-balanced diet in general - either with unhealthy foods, or not enough healthy foods, or both.

If we don't know exactly what those people ate, it could very well be due to lifestyle choices (which coincidentally include processed meats).

EDIT:
You could do a study to graph the number of people who've used a phone and the number of people who have cancer...the ratio would probably be absolute, but that doesn't mean that using a phone once gives you cancer. It's just that the two are linked, and not always relevantly.
