There are some bands that sound so similar to one another that it can be REALLY hard to tell the difference sometimes. One example would be the German band Kingdom come which sounds almost exactly like Led Zeppelin. The first time I heard them I actually thought that they were Led Zeppelin!
Here's a couple of examples of Kingdom Come:

They aren't bad by any means. No band can sound THAT much like Led Zeppelin and not be any good :D I would be hardpressed to find a time where I would put on a Kingdom Come album over a Led Zeppelin album though, and that is their shortcoming.

So does anyone else know of any bands who sound a lot like their idols or some other band?

Rap. All rap sounds the same. And it all sucks.

Emo. All emo music sounds the same, and it all sucks hard. MCR and Panic! being lovely examples of generic emo wailing.

Also, these stupid "metalcore" bands cropping up are all sound-a-likes, like In Flames and Atreyu. If you played me a song of theirs I wouldn't be able to discern who did it.

Honestly I detest artists who copy off each other. I know styles and genres are one thing, but it just goes too far when everything blends together and you can get one band confused for the other. It shows a severe lack in talent and originality.

Creed.

They cover Nirvana songs really well and it's been said over and over that they would make the best Nirvana cover band if they really wanted to.

It's hard for bands to try and mimic Nirvana's sound and many bands have failed hard at trying to do so. Creed do a pretty good job and they don't murder Kurt's masterpieces.

I've no quarrels with bands trying to be like their idols, it just pisses me off when they murder their idols' work but still insist on playing it.

Like when Courtney Love does Nirvana covers. She really, really can't do the songs justice.

Creed sounds like at least half a dozen other bands. I can't differentiate between most of the new bands nowadays.

Emo rock, rap, country...it all sounds the same (and like crap).

I love you.

not bands but the songs 'my curse' by killswitch engage and 'hearts burst into fire by bullet for my valentine sound absoloutely the same. the intro's sound the same, thei structured the same, their written about the same thing.

still if i had to say killswitch are better

wow this is difficult

in my favorite genre(symphonic metal) most bands are very different.. especially when it comes to vocals, i don't think i've once thought "hey that girl sounds like that other girl from <insert band name>"

but i guess After Forever and Within Temptation are pretty similar(though they're by no means my favorites) when it comes to vocals, though After Forever's vocalist is much better and more powerful, but i don't know all of their work as i'm more into eastern and scandinavian Symphonic Metal(they sometimes have funny and amazing accents, but they tend to be better in general)

as for rap, yes it usually sounds better, but this only counts for Black Rap

White Rap is usually very different(Eminem for example doesn't sound like your average Westside rap) this is probably because their voices are different

Manau and Mike Shinoda don't sound like that either(and they're all white, though i think there's one half black guy in Manau, but they're french, so it's obvious you don't hear the typical black rap slang and accents)

but even in black rap there's many differences, the main thing about rap are the vocals(unlikes in metal or rock, where the performance of the whole band matters) so similar beats can come often(especially from the same record label) but i can say there are some rappers that sound different

ofcourse, the lyrics are all about the same crap - money, bling, "bitches" and shooting someone's head of
i cannot deny that, but the sound is usually very different depending on rapper..

the only rappers i can think of that sound different from the rest are The Game and 50cent, but i don't like them by any means, they're a true disaster to this world, but they sound different compared to many others of their "brethren"
