Super Fighting Robot‼
I didn't see a thread on this yet, so hopefully I didn't just overlook it. Also making the thread here because even though it isn't being released on the PS3 or Wii, it's going to be on the 360 and PC.
Has anyone been keeping up with this game? I hoped on board the Splinter Cell games with Chaos Theory, and I'm pumped that they're finally releasing a new one soon--even though I still think it would've been cool if they made it a modernized Assassin's Creed sort of game like they were originally going to do. Though admittedly, I haven't been keeping too close an eye on it lately, so I don't know too much about what to expect from the full game.
Anyway, I just downloaded the demo the other day (it's available on Xbox Live for everybody now) and played through it a couple of times. It definitely feels like a Splinter Cell game, but it's still different, which is nice. I think there are less gadgets this time around, but areas are still manageable with what you do have at your disposal.
The new execution feature is really neat; after taking down a guard with hand-to-hand combat, you can "mark" up to three other bad guys in the area. When all of your marks are within range, you tap the execute button and Sam takes them all out simultaneously, which is infinitely helpful when you're in an area swarming with dudes.
The whole interface of various game mechanics have been integrated really well into the game, too, which also helps clean up the HUD. Instead of a heath bar, the screen just becomes red as you get closer to death (which I think by this point in time is familiar enough with a lot of gamers). Instead of a stealth bar to show how well Sam is concealed, it seems that the color of the game fades to black and white when you're in an area with bad guys who can't see you, and it goes back to color when you're out in the open. And if you're near multiple interactive elements (such as a wall to hide behind, a pole above you to jump to, or a ledge to climb down), instead of making you stand in just the right spot to interact with the correct one, all you have to do is look in the direction of what you want to interact with, which is super nifty.
And the cover system is nice, too, as it allows you to maneuver from one area of cover to another quite easily. When you're crouched behind something and see something else to hide behind, a cursor shows up when you look there to tell you whether or not it's immediately accessible from your current position. If it is, you just take the action button and Sam sprints over and slides to the next cover area.
Anyway! I'll shut up now and quit blabbering about how neat the demo is. (But if you're able, you should definitely check it out.)
So how about it? Any other Splinter Cell fans looking forward to the latest installment?
