This game reminded me of FFX a whole lot. The first thing that reminded me was the boss battle music:

Final Fantasy XIII:

That song kinda sounds like a combination of these two:

Final Fantasy X:

Final Fantasy X:

Some of the others sound similar too... I just can't name them :S

Also the whole mini-map thing and the perspective of your character and ALSO the way they walk reminds me of FFX. It's freaky... Everyone's costumes and outfits also look kinda FFX-ish. The pedophile-ish male civilian outfits kinda remind me of FFXII's male civilian outfits. :S

Was this stuff designed by some guys from FFX? Did anyone else feel this way?

Well its Square Enix lol, so its the same developers. There are quote a few links to previous Final Fantasy games in XIII, such as music, noises and names.

And how do you mean pedophile-ish????

I couldn't agree more as that was one of my first thoughts on XIII as well, I began play and thought, the Hanging Edge...Zanarkand? Lake Bresha...Macalania? The Vile Peaks...Destroyed Zanarkand? Gapra Whitewood...? Macalania again, in fact the Gapra boss is just like the Spherimorph in Macalania. Palumpolum...Luca? The Archylte Steppe...Calm lands? Eden...Bevelle? Lightning is even like Tidus-good Hp, agile, one-handed sword...There are so many similarities between the two games that they had to have been done by the same people.

This.
(plus rep btw mate :D )

It did have the 'feel' of X if you get what I mean, thoguh only in certain areas, or in certain ways. As a whole, I actually found the game to be unique/it's own, which is difficult to do in a series.

But yes, the look of some of the places reeeeally reminded me of X. Gran Pulse Central Expanse is Calm Lands x 1000000000000; ie, more imaginative, more detailed and all round better.

Pedophile-ish clothing:

The male clothing that looks like it belongs on a female: (short shorts, open Aladdin-type vest things on EVERYONE revealing stuff)

Doesnt make em look like a pedo though does it. Aladdin and Vaan must be pedos then from sounds of it. Oh and Wakka!

I agree with how Lightning moves is similar to Tidus, also Vanilles run is similar to Yunas. So they must have reused computer models.

I really don't agree with that. "Males clothes that look like they should be on a female"? -.- Statements like these are the reason behind much prejudice and societies apparant inability to move on from the horrible fifties. o_O

I have noticed a lot of similarities to FFX in this game, which tbh, it has only made me love it even more because due to the fact that FFX is my all-time favorite Final Fantasy game. I was thinking more along the lines if Nautilus being more like Luca and Palompolum being more like Bevelle. The music too. Wow! o_o I listened to all three of those and was amazed at how similar they are. The Gapra boss did remind me a lot of Spherimorph in Macalania. But yeah, I definitely see and hear the similarities.

I think the team behind the development of FFXIII (the one with Kitase in charge) was also behind the development of FFX and FFX-2. So I suppose it's natural that they have brought some similar elements over from their last projects.

I also had a strong Macalania vibe in the Gapra Whitewoods. Lake Bresha was icy Lake Macalania - though greater in size. The Archylte Steppe of course, is undeniably just like the Calm Lands, though more intimidating. In fact, the linear areas are just like FFX as well. There is usually a single path forwards with a map indication of where your next location is.

I can see the resemblance to FFX alot, especially in some of the music, the boss battle music is quite similar, the places are quite similar, even some of the character traits are similar, but it's not to the extent of it being a copy of FFX, it's a game in it's own right, just with influences from other games in the series, I mean Lightning's weapon?

Now that I think about it, and I use the term think loosely. When you first control Snow on the bridge in the beginning I had a sense of Deja Vu. And now I know why. Alot of the people costumes reminded me of X. Come to think of it, the one of the two kids in NORA really reminded me of the Al Bhed. With the goggles and such.

BTW, am I the only one who though of Rikku when I saw Vanille for the first time. I know its not striking, but there is something there.

I think I might ATTEMPT to complete FFX for the third time, my other two attempts failed cause I kept messing up :S

I almost got to the Yunalesca fight, but my sphere grids were screwed. (not in the right places)

The linear areas did feel very FFX-ish, I'm surprised people don't complain about FFX's linearity since I didn't see much of a difference between FFX and FFXIII, example:

FFX = Linear for most of the game
FFXIII = Linear for most of the game

FFX = Freedom towards the end (choose where to go in airship)
FFXIII = Freedom in Gran Pulse and you can do missions and stuff, towards the end.

As above.

So far for me (though I'm not that far into the story) the only real similarity that I'm finding is the Crystarium.

Some of the music here and there does remind me a bit of FFX but not too much.

But that's okay. =) It's it's own game and I love it!

When playing the game it doesn't really remind me too much of FFX, but I can understand how some of you can be reminded by it.

I like FFXIII but, FFX is so much better (story wise).

Or just, you know, plain better.

But I suppose that is another conversation for a different thread.

The only thing I've really noticed is a few of the soundtracks and that the Crystarium is a ripoff of the Sphere Grid. :monster:

Other than that, I can't say that I can see any definite lines towards FFX. I will say though, the battle system does indeed pose a strong resemblance to SE's bastard child, FFX-2's battle system.

I like the Crystarium better. It's more linear :S

I somehow made Tidus go on Wakka's sphere grid, and Auron went on Rikku's path... D:

You like... needed a walkthrough just for the sphere grid. Why should a game require a WALKTHROUGH for stat upgrades?... Jesus...

I actually like the Sphere Grid a lot more, because there was a lot of variety and choices and routes to take.

I was nearly close to filling up every single node in FFX, but then somehow I lost the disc and well, my moment of glory has been erased. Now I will never get to do it again, unless I buy FFX again...for the 5th time...

That's a rather unfortunate story D:

I feel bad for you.

I had FFX when I still took shit care of my discs, so... it's not in good shape, neither is the case...

ANYWAY... I think we should go back to the topic of FFXIII being related to FFX so the mods don't start yelling at us to stay on topic... :S

Okay fine.

The ending in FFXIII.

The ending used Cocoon as way to depict Meteor from FFVII. The way it was falling down and that the bottom part was on fire.
