I'm at the Archylte Steppe right now, and it does bear an uncanny resemblance to the Calm Lands. ^ ^ Not that it's a bad thing. The bad thing is that Barthandelus reminds me of Seymour, which I have posted elsewhere. Ugh.....X-x I couldn't stand him the first time--even if I beat him in one try--and I'm not looking to fighting him again.

Oh, and then there's the amazingly obvious similarity: Sphere Grid and Crystarium. Though I find myself liking the Crystarium a bit more. I don't know why. Anyone else feel this way?? o_O

I don't, you could do what you liked with the Sphere Grid. You don't have any choice at all with Crystarium, it is completely linear.

I guess one similarity it has with FFX, is the feel that the game has. Which I think is a negative and a positive. It's a positive because FFX was a good game, and a game with a similar feel must be doing something right. On the other hand, it's obviously nowhere near as good as FFX. I don't think how badly it compares to FFX does the game any favours.
The most obvious example of the how FFXIII is like FFX, is Vanille's voiceovers. Which is exactly what FFX had, and although FFX didn't have great voice acting, Tidus' voiceovers are so much better than Vanille's.
