I didn't see a thread over this but, do what you will staff :monster:
Btw, im putting spoliers around just in case so, beware >_>​

At the end of Chapter 11 you see Serah and whatnot but really it's the pope looking guy >_> (barthandelus) I heard him say that Lightning's name was Claire

(i'm assuming that's how its spelt correct me if im wrong)​





But here's my question to you guys:​

How'd you react to this?​


I personally, think
Claire
doesn't suit her and I was like whoa at first. Lightning is just her xD So when I heard 'Serah' say
Claire
I was like "so, that's her nameeeee."​

I just can't stop thinking about it haha x] Lightning just is Lightning and I can't think of a better name for her tbh​

What about you guys?​

Actually her name is
Claire, not Clarie xD

I thought it suited her, and went well with Serah, it's just a common and simple name. But I can see why they use Lightning throughout the game, her real name is a bit boring really xD

But they changed it in the english verison Kaylee :gasp: Yes Lightning does suit her well as she is fast and knows how to kick ass. But
Claire is a nice name nonetheless
I just wish they kept the original :sad3:

Though I agree. it is a bit boring and im glad that Lightning was her 'nick' name so to speak. I think it fitted her well :mokken:

Well, its a good thing they did cause I have no idea what that word would be pronounced anyways xD. But, tis good to know. Thanks for the info Adri :D
Claire is an okay name however, it just idunno suits her idk thats just me xD

Oh really now? I barely understand English so, how do you expect me to know what that Eclair word would be? with the accent over the e xD though, I like how it's spelled that's neat-o. And maybe your right :hmmm: Maybe 'cause Lightning's just an easier name to understand? I have no clue. All i know is that im glad she 'became' Lightning I just couldn't picture her not being called that xD
 
I found this out last night. I was actually very shocked at how simple it was but I like the name Claire, it is pretty.
The whole éclair/Claire situation is weird though. I guess éclair and Claire both have similar meanings (bright,light). I prefer Claire of éclair though.
 
The original just makes me think of chocolate eclairs

Anyway, I didn't thin much of it, all this build up and it was a bit of a let down really...though, I did have the original name spouiled for me, so I guess I was expecting something abit more interesting than Claire. It's not like the other characters have overly dull names....

I did go OoOoOoooooOOH when it was revealed though, I wasn't expecting it there and then. Really enjoyed that whole scene actually

Claire does go with Serah, both being kinda common names if it were. Pretty ones mind. :wacky: It did shock me how we found out though, Serah...well, Barthandelus just blurting it out as he did, it was nicely done, really good scene though, I remember thinking "WTF is Serah doing here? :gasp:"

And the eclaire thing didn't occur to me till I read Adri's post tbqh. :hmmm:
 
I thought it was a bit naff really, I can understand Eclaire as a name, especially given the meaning behind it. But I have a feeling they chose "Claire" for the English version because that's the closest it can get to "Eclaire" without being completely different. Either way, although Lightning states she abandoned her proper name because she was ashamed of her past etcetc it didn't really add all that much to the story.

To be honest I prefer as Lightning. It suits her strong persona and character. Eclair seems to innocent and girly. Which I guess works if her past was all lovely and innocent. But I cant see Lightning being a girly girl, shes hardcore.

The original French meaning is "Lightning" which one would presume is the reason she changed her name to that. The food is named after that meaning as is Lightning. Lightning's not named after the food. :wacky:
 
I realy don't like lightnings real name because it's so simular to her fake name its just the French version. Also Lightning sounds more bad ass than Eclair which fits her so much more...

Eclair is a crock of shit as a name. "Hi, my name is Eclair, but I hate that name, so I'm going to translate it into another language and use that as my name." :mokken: wat

I like her real name, but Lightning is better lol
