Does any one no why he changes his name in KH1 and KH2 i have never really understood
 
theys are my way of thinking
1: he does not like his name
2: he want to keep that name of his till the worlds are restored
3: Esay way to say
 
squall changed to leon because he could not protect his world from destruction so he bears the name leon until hollow bastion is restored to its former glory.....or something like that
 
yea in the story somewhere cant exactly remember u get the impression he didnt want to remember his old world because he couldnt save it so he started using leon instead
 
The Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games are 2 different universies. Hence the reason Auron and Tidus are present cause
Tidus does not exsist and Auron is dead.

But as for Leon,
Wikipedia said:
he assumes the name Leon because "Squall" was shamed for being unable to protect those he cared about from the Heartless when his home world, the Radiant Garden, was consumed in darkness.

Yes, and besides, it specifically says in Jiminy's Journal that he changed his name because he was ashamed of his former life.

If you noticed, Yuffie calls him Spuall at the start and he corrects her. I havn't completed it yet so I can't say much.

I always call him Squall.

Leon is just fuckin stupid.

But yeah, read the journal, it tells you everything.
 
hmm.. just to add something trivial. could it be possible that he named himself to that Leon from FFII? That guy was also unable to protect his hometown and
betrayed his friends.
. so Squall is ashamed and decided to name himself to that dark character maybe.

Highly doubt that. Leon probably comes from his admiration for lions. Like his ultimate weapon, the Lionheart. And his ring, Griever.
 
Squall changes his name to Leon in KH series because he failed to protect his home world. When Yuffie started to call him Squall he retorts with a comment like "I thought i told you not to call me that."

If my name were Squall, I'd be ashamed as well...... Besides, chicks love the name Leon. I also don't blame him for regreting his former life. He helped a talking duck. *Sigh*

I liked his name as Squall, and it suits him more then Leon. Leon just sounds like some uppety jock/prep person who is nothing like Squall.
