Squall

The first time I played this game I didn't really like Squall. I just wanted him to cheer up. I didn't know the story so I didn't realise why he was the way he was. Now I've got used to the story, and I really like him. I can understand why he feels the way he does sometimes, for example when Cid hands over control of Garden to him. I remember thinking "dude, he's 17". But I don't think he did a bad job of it.
 
I like his jacket. Seriously, it's really cool. Far too cool for him. Bah, to be honest I have never beaten FFVIII. I can only judge him based on the beginning of the game. And let me just say... this man's undeveloped experience with Squall is not great. I say boo to him.
 
I actually liked Squall since I could relate to him to a certain level. I mean, I myself am a pretty introverted person. There's nothing wrong with that. I also like to wear dark clothing, but that doesn't mean I'm emo. I guess people just call Squall that because he's not talkative and his appearance at first glance seems a little dark. Well, Squall is not emo. From time to time, even he has an outburst. Squall just likes to keep to himself since he's afraid to let people in. I find that to be perfectly normal for people who have their reasons. And Sqaull definately had his reasons.

I loved Squall. Great character, had a great personality, and it was interesting to see how the more upbeat and open party members pulled him out of his shell. It was great to see a more brooding, antisocial hero imo.

If I'm correct, the current slang definition for emo is discussing and obsessing over feelings too much, right? Squall doesn't do that at all, so I wouldn't call him emo. He had his bad moments (his reaction to Quistis at the training center was less than graceful, but she shouldn't spring something like that on a student anyway), but which character didn't? Squall kept to himself, but he did eventually open up. That willingness to change shows strength of charcter.

These guys are jealous 'cause they are FFVII fans. Cloud is not as cool as Squall that's why they hates him! Until FFVII:AC came out, everyone was callin Squall a bitch coz he looks cooler but now that Cloud got bike and couple of thousends swords it's rarely to hear those kind ofthings about Squall, I really wonder why?!!
 
I see him as 'emo' in the sence that he always seems depressed.
He's okay, but I think the 'lone wolf' thing is wayyyy too over the top and played out, and the most annoying scenes are those where he's in his room on his bed making foetal positions whining on about what to do and what's going on.
I'd prefer it if he was silent.
 
One of my favorite FF characters, i found him relatable and more interesting than many other FF heroes. At the begining when Squall wakes in the infirmary, there is some foreshadowing about Ellone which suggests he has some backstory. However while not on the level of Cloud due to the milking of FF7 (Crisis Core and Before Crisis) Squall is an interesting character, his antisocial nature and resent to make strong relationships between his friends only made me more curious about him.
I hear many of you saying that his feelings for Rinoa are somewhat random. I do understand that persepective, however for someone who hasn't been able to develop relationships with people in a long time, Squall may find his feelings new and overwhelming, it helps identify a change in his personality. He develops over the game far more than many other FF characters. This help to make for a more interesting story, and more, a character I could identify with.
 
Squall is t3h smex.. pardon my l33tspeak. Cloud is the sexiest FF character in the genre, hands down. Squall is second. As for his character... he was a bit cruddy. He was over-emotional and then under-emotional and it just flip-flops throughout the entire story. He blamed his past for everything but then didn't like to admit that he had a bad past let alone that he was placing the blame for it. Okay, so his memory was a bit wacked, but he took it to an extreme. You know what though... I liked him. He was great.

btw, u kinda defined emo right there...every single human being on this earth is emo, squall just has a bit more than the average person, there r also several types of emo, ie cloud had one type, a totally different type (at the begining of the story at least) and squalls type of emo was to hide it and shut it w=away, almost to be hidden so nobody truely sees what u desire. Clouds emo was to not care because u want to not care, in every ff there was an emo person...

7=cloud
8=squall
9=vivi + freya
10=tidus
tactics(ps1)=beowolf (secret charecter)
12=fran

and the others i have yet to play, many of u r familiar w/ Legend of the Dragoon which had its own emo charecter, Dart

the point is, squall is only the most identefiable and most easily made fun of emo ff charecter, however every single ff (possibly every rpg) that i have played had at least one emo charecter, the difference being squall fits a few stereotypes
 
I don't think anti-social and apathetic are the same as emo. In fact, Squall often just didn't care. Wouldn't that be the opposite of emo? It's not like he constantly drew attention to himself and whined a lot for no good reason.

Anyway, as for what I thought about him... I thought he lacked character depth, I would have much preferred Laguna as the main character. But that's just my opinion.

well emo is also a manner of dress, and if u mix the manner of dress with a person that has those features it often misenterpreted for emo xp

and i too would much have rather had Laguna as the main char :D
 
i actually really like Squall. he's not my favorite or anything, but he's definitely not an 'emo bitch'. people call Cloud that too, but its whatever. i think his more antisocial side is sexy. at least he doesn't constantly babble about something like some other characters do
