Anyone heard of this awesome concept? Anyone already pledged?

I'm gonna be picking this up as soon as I can, because I've always wanted a decent game like this. The campaign mode sounds freakin' awesome, and the fact that they've raised $31M on their website to develop the game is simply staggering. Reading the dev updates and watching their YouTube cast has been a treat, as I'm just getting so pumped for this now.

TL;DR: Spaceship sim that looks very promising. Think Ace Combat in space, but with multiplayer. Has raised $31M in crowdfunding.

I'm not really into the genre (not that I couldn't be, just don't have the time) but this looks like a really stellar entry into the PC gaming catalog. The thing's not even in Alpha yet and they already have visuals like that? That's pretty impressive, even for Cryengine 3. I've got pretty high hopes for next-gen PC games actually, and Star Citizen is definitely giving me reason to remain confident.

I've pledged, I soiled myself when I watched the trailers - finally a reason to buy a joystick that doesn't connect to a fucking DE-9 Serial Port.

I'm actually convinced they stole some of the minting plates from the US Mint, never in the history of crowdfunding has a project still been earning a million fucking dollars a week months after the drive ended xD

This needs to be released meow, right meow. I want it.

it looks nice, you sure your computer is good for it john? our friend fried his piece of shit computer playing crysis :wacky:

Next-gen PC. Hells-to-the-yeah. I've been super into the genre since I first saw my friend's brother play Ace Combat 2 on the PlayStation way back when. Since then Ace Combat has gone down the drain, though, and clones aplenty have risen in its place only to immediately fall by the wayside without so much as a huzzah. You want something quick and easy to get an idea of the potential here. I'd recommend Strike Suit Zero. Don't expect much, I'm just saying, it'll give you an idea of the potential that the genre has on PC.

QFT. The amount of money that they've raised is actually a record IIRC. Also looking forward to playing this with a joystick. The devs say it will also have Occulus Rift support. A wild combination, to be sure.

I could run Crysis more than comfortably, rest assured. =]

I don't have a mega-rig by any means, but my machine runs well enough. 8GB RAM, Quad-core Intel i7, etc. About $1400 worth of kit when I bought it a couple of years back.

Where this game is concerned, though... It's being developed with the future in mind. I know that sounds like some kind of buzz slogan that Microsoft would regurgitate at E3 or something, but it's actually true here. The graphics cards that the developers say will be needed to run this game at full optimization don't technically exist yet. And this game isn't even in alpha yet, as mentioned above.

At best, I'd be able to run it at absolute minimum with my current rig. Maybe push medium settings. Maybe. But by the time of release, I would have gotten 4 years+ of service out of this machine. An upgrade would be more than plausible, and entirely welcome.
