In the guide it mentions these colored bottles that you get while fishing. And each one adds to this big puzzle in order to get the ultimate fishing rod, which opens up a new fishing area. The annoying thing is is that the stupid bottles never appear!. I sat there fishing for like 2 hours, and still no "colored bottles" just empty ones. I got so irritated that I went where the rod was in the guide and it wasnt there. Has anyone else got any colored bottles? If so let me know when in the game or how you got them please. Oh and tell me which area you got it lowstream,midstream,or upstream thanks.
 
Sorry, I haven't done that sidequest yet...I'm sure someone here has though....c'mon guys where ya at??! lol
 
You'll need to beat the Mysterious Man/Gilgamesh Hunt first and then the bottles will appear. Sorry for all the wasted time you spent :(
 
has anyone completed this sidequest yet? I've got the blue, red, and green bottles just by fiching in the first are, not even going to the extra areas. I can't even get one perfect on the 2nd area, and I thought I was quick, I can't imagine the higher levels. Anyways after giglamesh, you'll have to visit different areas in the game to be able to go back and find the bottles when fishing. I don't think there is anything to trigger, just by going to the areas and then fishing should work. If anyone knows EXACTLY how this works it would be much appreciated. The only walkthrough that mentions it is Seph's and I think we lost something in the translation ;)
 
alright....to address Nimfredd's question, you can only fish MUCH later in the game, after you get to Balfonheim. if you want to figure it out on your own, I'm not going to say anymore here.

and, as for the colored bottles thing, I'm at the point right before the end of the game, and JUST got the fishing thing. I just played through the first three areas and got all five bottles doing that. 3 of 'em were in the first and 2 in the second...and, yes, the upstream is INSANELY hard....I've gotten 10 perfects there...out of like 35....

I finally got a couple perfects in the second and third areas and haven't gone back yet. Have you found all the locations to take the bottles to to get the messages out of them? For the green bottle, if you visit the empty hut in the salikawood in the area north of the gate crystal, it's in the middle of a Y split, you'll see a msg about a glow coming from the bottle, then it'll bust and you get part of a secret msg. I know that one of the bottles is related to the windmills in the cerobi steppe, that you have to activate certain ones, but the moogles keep telling me the same thing, that they have been assigned to all ten windmills, blah blah.???
 
for the windmill one, make sure you've done the vyraal hunt and talked to the moogle on windmill 10. for the black bottle its in the garamscythe waterway, center section(the one with all the switches) the blue is in the bottom most part in the nabreus deadlands, two areas south of the gate crystal. oh, and the last one is in the town section of the mosphoran highwaste, it is shrine you can't activate.
 
I finally did find them, thanks for your help. Hope the sword in the end is worth it! Has anyone finished and got the treasure then traded for the tolo(I think) sword? What's it worth, atk pwr, etc.?
 
haven't gotten it yet...you have to kill three monsters with hp in the millions(highest 12 million, or so I've heard), AND finish all the hunts, with one of the three monsters with uber HP being a hunt as well as do the whole fishing thing.
 
Yeah, you have to defeat the Hell Wyrm, Yiazmet, and Omega Weapon for two of the badges. The other badge is from the fishing game.

Where are all the fishing spots located?
 
After I beat these guys what the hell do I need the sword for then? Already where I'm at I'm going to just blaze through the story bosses, maybe for the last espers or something, but it seems kinda mistimed, they always do that with a couple of the best weapons. At least I did manage to get the zodiac spear ;)

Anyways, done ranting for now. How do I get past the upper area? I've gotten at least 12 perfects, I know because I started counting after I thought I already had five. I've already got all the msgs from the bottles and the masume rod from giglamesh. Is there something else I need to do to trigger it?

BTW, did you get the Genji armor from Gilgamesh?
 
oh, you have to find the cactoid compact after getting a perfect, it gets REALLY annoying. it took me quite a few tries. oh, and to get the sword, I'm pretty sure you sell the badges and then the sword appears in the bazzar.
