Nintendo Super Mario Galaxy 2

Apologies for double post, but it is not without reason. To bring attention to how close it is to what I am positive is it's true, final NA release date, I enlighten you with the announcement that it is set to be released on May 23rd. :awesome:

Expect this to be a challenging game...it's gonna be Super Mario, defying gravity one step at a time. :monster:

I've been playing Mario Galaxy 2 all day and I am enjoying it so far. It is simular to Mario Galaxy but not as much story. Which is fine because Mario is more about the game play than storyline. And I don't want any drama or deep thought provoking story in a Mario game anyway XD. That was sort of in a paper mario game I played and if felt so out of place.

I love having the track with levels like Mario 3 and Mario World. And the levels themselves are fun to play.

But I love having Yoshi in a Mario game again. Has he been in a Mario game, besided the sports, smash bros, and mario cart, games since Super Mario World?

Well, Yoshi was in Super Mario 64 DS, And New Super Mario Bros. Wii. ;) Other than that, nothing I can think of though. :hmmm:

Unfortunately the soonest I'll be able to get this is August 26th, I guess I'll ask for it for my birthday, like Super Mario Galaxy enough to create a thread for it, so I ought to enjoy the second one.

I really liked the challenge Super Mario Galaxy presented, not enough of Nintendo's games are truly a real challenge. From what you've played of it, does it seem more difficult for what point in the game it is in comparison to the first Super Mario Galaxy game?

Yeah it is definently difficult There was one level that started to frusterate me becauce I had to use Yoshi with a chili pepper to rocket myself around a maze. If I hit any obsticals, and there were a lot, I'd have to start over. I also noticed that the bosses aren't as forgiving as in the original. They seem to have a shorter recovery time so you have to attack quickly.

I think this one might be harder than the original :)

Ooh, I like the sounds of harder. :awesome: Sure it is frustrating at times, but the tougher it is, the more rewarding it feels to complete it. :monster:

Thanks for that, it about made up my mind. :D I should be getting this come August 26th.

omg I want this so bad! I hear it is bery good and is more awesome then the 1st one. But I hear Rosalina only makes a brief appaearence in the game. But the gameplay from I was awesome so Im defo gonna but 2. And it is much harder after you beat the game I heard.

I'll have to keep that in mind, this game could get pretty insanely tough at times, to the point I wonder if I'll be able to complete everything, or even most of it. X_x

I'm gonna have to bare down to 100% complete Super Mario Galaxy 2, but I'll give it a good effort if some of the challenges seem impossible for me to beat, which is mildly embarrassing, it's a Mario game... ^^;

Well Mario games aren't always the easiest XD. I thought World 8 of Mario 3 was very difficult, especially the final castle. And some levels of Mario 64 could give me headaches. (That one where you had to raise and sink the water nearly had me throwing my controller at the screen!)

So don't feel bad if you thought Mario Galaxy was hard :)

First of all, to Rydia, just thought I'd mention that Yoshi is also present (and awesome!) in Super Mario Sunshine.. Aw I love that game.

Anyway..

I didn't like the original Super Mario Galaxy. I bought it and played through it like it was a chore, I thought there were some cool things in it but overall it felt a little too ridiculous and I felt ripped off at the end. I still haven`t even gotten all the stars in that game.
This one, however, I love, and I`m addicted to. I don`t know why, because it is very similar to the first one.. but somehow it`s just way better to me. In particular, this is what I love about it: (I wouldn`t classify anything I`m about to write as spoilers, but just in case, I`m giving this as a slight warning!)

-Yoshi is available. The pepper that makes you speed up is a lot of fun, and I quite enjoy the challenges that involve him and his other abilities (like the glowing berry).

-The storyline is more basic, more straightforward and easy to follow, as well as more cheerful (even though peach is still captured). The whole substory with Rosalina in the original was a bore to me.

-The map system is superb. I found the first game very confusing in how you had to unlock different `observatories` around that weird floating ballroom place. In this one, you`re strictly travelling forward and onward, rather than enlarging your `scope`. As well, each world that you visit has a way better feeling of distinction.

-You can play as Luigi a lot of the time (and any time you want after defeating the final boss). He runs quicker and jumps higher than Mario, with the sacrifice that he isn`t as good as accellerating and stopping. In my opinion though, he`s better than Mario simply because he`s funner to play as. You feel like you can fling him around more so than you can Mario.

-The levels range from incredibly easy to very challenging. You have lots of options as to which worlds you visit, but this makes it great for when you eventually want to get everything later on. The game has a lot of lasting to it.

-There are a lot of great throwbacks, including old music and levels such as the Supermassive Galaxy where everything is gigantic, as well as another galaxy literally called the Throwback Galaxy. When going into this one I said to myself `hey, that level looks kinda like that one level from Mario 64`. When the screen opened up, I noticed that is was the exact same, down to every matter of scale and proportion (as well as music). It was great.

-It`s easier to collect everything. You don`t have to worry about looking in the wrong place for hidden things, because you have a much better idea as to where they are, which really cuts down on the frustration factor. As well, the annoying bit with the`comets` you had to either wait on or summon to make your new challenges available in the first game has been tweaked and made much more straightfoward. It`s also nice that once a comet appears, it`s there permanently so you can go to it any time you like.

-(This one might classify as spoilerish.) After you beat the game, there`s another world unlocked, the Special World, which comes loaded with levels that take a high number of stars to open up. I love this addition, because now that I`ve technically beaten the game, I still have just as much motivation to keep collecting stars (I beat the game with 78 stars collected).

Super Mario Galaxy was my 1st ever Mario game - the Wii is the 1st ever Nintendo console I have. I found it to be exceptional, brilliant gameplay and level design. It was my Game of the Year pick of 2007.
I'm getting SMG2 by online order from the UK (hopefully arrive end of this week). Somehow, Nintendo Australia decided to put the game on sale in Australia from 1st July. Just can't understand that whereas EU has it from 11 June, and NZ from 15 June.
Really excited and looking forward, and going by various reviews, seems like another GotY nominee.

hmm Super Mario galaxy 2 well i dont have a wii but i still have a opinion on the game i was somewhat interested in the prequel of the game but not interested enough to go buy a wii just for the game but i will say it looks quite good from all the videos and let's plays i've seen of it and some how i knew they would be bringing yoshi back into a main role in the game but something that always interests me that tho it walks looks like the same yoshi but its never the same yoshi you met in the first game he appeared in

Been playing this on-and-of, and currently in World 4. It's great, but has still the same little 'niggles' as with the 1st one.
1. No rotating camera, so in certain instances you see a dark outline of Mario or Luigi
2. Swimming and Spring Mario is still horrid
I like the new suits - Cloud and Rock. The drill power-up is also great. The enemy sound-effect is still hilarious as before, and the music is great. The level design is just as imaginative.

Nice to hear that the music is really good and the levels are imaginative, I hope they do some cool new things with gravity in this.

I might end up getting this for my birthday next month, depending on how things are going financially at the time, things could be pretty tight, and I've gotta pick and choose which games I want the very most, prioritize. :hmmm:
