Recently I was searching through the website and found the archives for Survivor. After a few days of reading, I came up with an idea for Survivor 2013...

How about for Survivor 2013, instead of just random teams, we can call this year...

Survivor 2013: Veterans vs The New Generation

My idea was that one team could consist of 6 veterans (joined the website between 06-09) vs the team of The New Generation (joined the website between 10-present day)

I think it would be cool to see if the New Generation would be able to hang with the Veterans. Who knows, maybe the longer you've been on the site, the better you might do? It just throws an interesting dynamic into the game IMO.

Provided we can get enough players, I think this could be a hit. Just for this one year.

(LOL Mitsuki, I totally copy and pasted my own message I sent you. I just added/took stuff out! XD)

if it happens i think this might not be a bad idea. the whole thing of putting you on a team with people you're not supposed to get on with is getting old, and just doesn't get the desired effect

I wouldn't mind this, but...I'm not hosting it this year, so it depends on the lead planner...whoever that may be. :hmmm: I'll ask around staff. Also, just to point it out, Jeri...was there a specific reason you said 6 veterans? The teams need to have an equal amount of members due to the nature of the competitions.

Woops, I meant 6 people on each team! Sorry about that. XD

Ah, gotcha. Depends. Sometimes there's 5-7 people per team. If it ends up that there's three teams though (which has happened before)...what's the 3rd team going to be? =P

I kinda like and kinda don't like the idea.

I mean I understand "vets versus noobs"

But in the end how many of the "noobs" are going be playing? usually from my past experience most of the vets usually end up playing, which in the end would mean some vets would be on the noobs team..

I dunno, I thought 3 teams was fun last year...but then again I wasn't around for when there were 2 teams.
I'd say base the number of teams on how many people want to join. My 2 cents ;)

This was pretty much my point. It depends on the number of members signing up. Usually we end up having 21-24 members...evenly divided into 3 teams. (7-8 members per team, respectively). If we were to have 2 teams, that means at least 10-14 members per team, which might be a bit problematic since a lot of the challenges depends heavily on each participant 'taking turns'. (Generally, it's much easier to do competitions like that where there's a smaller amount of people per team). And we all know how aggravating it is to wait for someone to log in, etc etc. eventually leading to failed challenges. It may also be a bit difficult trying to get 10-12 non-vets to sign up, since a lot of the players are usually vets anyway. :hmmm:

Two teams can work, I'm sure. But if the goal is to have an even amount of vets vs newer members... just saying it might be difficult to do along with the nature and design of the challenges.

I really don't know which team I'd fall into. :hmmm: I probably accumulated a total of 60 posts when I first joined in '06, but then I buggered off for a few years and only came back a few months ago.

But I think I would be happy on any team. :monster:

Alright, so a few things...

We will need a few volunteers to plan Survivor this year. If we can have at least two active members and at least one staff member to coordinate the whole event, then that should be fine, I think. I'll be around to make the necessary changes in the ACP, but I can't commit to this event anymore like I have been doing so the past few years. The two members may receive additional permission to post threads in the Survivor board, as they will be the 'hosts'. Assuming that you guys want Survivor to happen beginning of April - May, (meaning, sign-ups should be up by next month), then planning has to start now. (There's already a private forum for planning Survivor, so we just need volunteers). If there's no volunteers, then I'm afraid Survivor will be cancelled this year.

...I'll bite the bullet and volunteer this year. I'd hate to see this not happen. Plus, it'd probably be easier on me than working around the way being a contestant works. As long as I have someone that I can get along with to help plan. :lew:

I guess I can help out also (y)
as long as we dont do the thing where you get banned if you get voted out again :mokken: that was annoying when it happen to me!

I'd also like to point out people need to be committed. So please look at your time schedules before committing to planning and volunteering. It'd be hard to just drop out right in the middle of planning. =]

About the only thing that could remotely prove a hinderance to me wouldbe my Editorship of this student magazine. However, literally I spend my time working on it through the computer, whether doing layout or submission review, so I'd still be available.
And, i've got a phone with net access, as everyone knows. I'll be around. :andry:

i keep wanting to be a part of this stuff, but get too busy for it

i think last time i just dropped out without saying a word :sad3:

I'd fire in to this again but can we not have it directly over the academic exams period? First few years it ran over Summer/near Birth Week but recently it's been landing on top of my exams. :/

p.s. by the time this starts I'll have been on this website for 7 years. Fuck me.
