Acclaimed GameCube and PS2 role-player Tales of Symphonia is to be re-released on PlayStation 3, a new report suggests. The Tales of Symphonia: Perfect Edition pack will also include the game's Wii-exclusive sequel Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Both games will feature jazzed up HD visuals.

Tales series boss Hideo Baba teased the Perfect Edition to Spanish site Koi-Nya, and said it would be "a representation of the dreams and hopes of the fans, who have long been wanting it". Tales of Symphonia scored an impressive 9/10 upon its 2004 GameCube release

"It may be clichéd, and altogether a little too bright and happy for its own good, but Tales of Symphonia is nonetheless epic, enjoyable, and superbly constructed," Rob Fahey wrote, "and deserves an audience far in excess of merely the hardcore JRPG fans who will undoubtedly snap it up with glee."

Here is the translated page from Koi-Nya, courtesy of Google's Translate. Give or take, you can read it, and understand it.

Now, myself being not have been able to play Tales of Symphonia, I look forward to reading further news if this is actually going to happen. If it is, it will give me an eventual chance to play the game.

Discuss? I assume some of you are fans of this particular Tales game.

Yesh! This is by far my favourite Tales game, and will make my day all over again :griin: . I never got to play the sequel so that's pretty exciting too...even if a lot of people I talk to say it's a bit...well, crap.

Thanks Hayabusa :sir:

O happy days! If this happens I will be really happy since Tales of Symphonia is one of the best, if not the best in the series. I remember playing this back when it was out and it was just so fun. I support this till the end of time. Also I would probably like Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the new world better on PS3. I cannot even bring myself to pass the Wii version because Emil and Marta were quite dull.

The tales characters from Symphonia 1 being stuck at level 50 is complete BS and I would hope to see change with that.

I think I am near the middle and I should really get back to it. I do remember it being quite dull though.

Anyway, I really hope this happens.

TOS 1 > TOS 2

They can kick 2 out for all I care.

"Before we announce something, a rumor is just a rumor."

Tales series producer Hideo Baba has clarified rumors of a “Tales of Symphonia Perfect Edition” for PlayStation 3.
Speaking to JPGames.de, Baba said, “To be quite frank… I was at Expomanga in Spain last week and everyone was enjoying the event, and then I heard from fans ‘I heard rumors about a Tales of Symphonia Perfect Edition. Is that true?’ Actually, I was the one surprised by that! (laughs) That fan then said that it’s the 10th anniversary of Tales of Symphonia in Japan this year, and I just said that there might be something coming, as a celebration.”

He continued, “But it will be more like a ‘Tales of Café’ or an event at NamcoCon… but we actually have no plans yet, there are only ideas. We can’t really say anything before announcements are made and it’s always a bit surprising when people ask us about rumors like that. It would be best to just wait for new information [about Tales of Symphonia’s 10th anniversary]. Before we announce something, a rumor is just a rumor after all (laughs).”

There you have it. The next Tales game, or round of Tales games (whatever the case may be), are expected to be announced at the Tales of Festival on June 1 and 2.

crosses fingers and hopes to god that this gets announced... I soooo wanna play it, but i'm not paying £60 for a gamecube copy

i would trade in my xbox and buy a ps3 for this, depending on whether not they upgraded the game to Tales of the Abyss' flex range linear motion battle system and how pretty the game looks

i actually heard the second game was pretty shit :(

"Do we call it an HD double pack?"

"HD collection?"

"Nah, we're Japanese, so let's use a word that means "in unison" in terms of a musical performance"

"...genius"

It was just announced in the Tales Of festival, so please be excited.

It's as suspected, both Tales of Symphonia and its Wii sequel in one package, updated, with new cut-ins for Artes and costumes from Tales of the Abyss. The release date is 10/10/13 in Japan.

Any word of a western release? Well...

Here you go then. Sometime early next year. I'm just shocked that it's not like, a 6 month wait for Europe and Australasia.

Seeing as I have been constantly told that Symphonia is a good game, if not, the best in the series, and with how ridiculously rare it is to find without forking over a hundred quid over for, consider me interested in this package. Plus, I want to see how bad the sequel is, as people often claim it to be.

EDIT:

LQ trailer~

EDIT #2 :

Oh God, the protagonist to the sequel looks like Edge Maverick...

EDIT #3 :

Longer, more HQ trailer~

EDIT #4 :

Western release tentatively titled 'Tales of Symphonia Chronicles'

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

i'm not sure if i want to say it's time to rape my wallet or if i should just hook up my gamecube lol

buying a ps3 for this doesnt really seem like its worth it =\

Aww what a shame. I was too busy partying/not being here and as a result I could not post this most wonderful news. ^_^

Oh well!

I am excited and that is all I have to really say. Tales of Symphonia was my first entry in the Tales series and it is probably my favourite in the series. I felt Tales of Symphonia to be really long compared to other tales games and I really enjoyed that about it.

That is cool! I can play TOS 2 on ps3 in hd? I probably will not even bother with my Wii version so this is good news. I hate the fact in 2 that Tales characters from 1 cannot level up. It was so damn lame.

I cannot wait to get those trophies.

I will be getting this. It is one of my favourite Tales games but it's been so long since i have played it. I'm glad it's getting re-released.

Im so excited for this, toS is in my top 3 fav games of all time. i got ToS2 but i couldnt even bring myself to even get passed 10 hours of gameplay cuz it didnt seem natural to me because of the wii controls, but im sure it being on the ps3 itll b alot better :D, cant wait for this to come out. just add it to the list of reasons i now have a ps3 (Kh1.5 remix, FFX, Tales games, FFvs13, ect)

Excuse me whilst I explode with indescribable joy. Tales of Symphonia is only my second favourite game of all time, and I am really looking forward to playing it again. That it'll be based off the PS2 version makes it even better, because I am itching to fight the Seraphim trio; that was the one thing that was in the PS2 version that I really wanted to do. The difficulty increases (Abyssion being immune to All-Divides, Mystic Artes for certain bosses, etc) will make it more enjoyable as well...plus there are the additional costumes, which will probably get expanded on further. This is just the stuff in the PS2 version that wasn't in the Gamecube version as well, I expect they'll add some other things...maybe a few cameo bosses from later games, some more anime cutscenes, etc? Fully voiced skits with the original voice actors would be a dream come true, as well.

I really hope they keep the original audio for ToS, though, because Dawn of the New World had horrid voice acting. If they're going to add in new content, then they should do what they should have done the first time and make Alice and Decus playable, as well. They were literally the only good thing about the sequel, and that they were only playable if you could hack the game was annoying. I want to trigger Decus' Mystic Arte. I also want the original ToS characters to be useful, and not capped at Level 50, too. Now is their chance to improve the sequel, and I expect them to do so.

But honestly, the only bad thing about this is that it won't come out here until 2014. Surely they could have managed a Christmas release...

I'd be first in line if it did come out. It's my favourite Tales game by far. Given I've already played it though, I might get sucked into trophy-hunting.

Been following this like crazy ever since Xillia was announced for localization. And now with Xillia 2 coming to the west and Symphonia and its sequel, I'm seriously excited that the Tales of series are being released in the west. I've never played Symphonia (never got my hands on it here unfortunately) and I'd like to play it first before I start the sequel (which IS actually for sale here). This is simply the best opportunity XD

Tales Of Symphonia: Tales of Xillia Interview @GamerFitnation

Tales Of Symphonia: Tales of Xillia

Gregory Laporte sat down with Hideo Baba, Producer of the RPG Tales Of Symphonia Chronicles from Namco. With the new North American release of part 2 of the Chronicles: Tales of Xillia, players can look for new additions to the game including changes in the main character, Lloyd, that allow user choices to effect story line. Players now have the opportunity to choose from three different weapons in battle, while also experiencing more authentic character voices.

Although there are no current plans for releasing the game for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, Namco has focused in with authentic efforts to keep their current fan base coming back for more with game.

New game play, characters, and dialogue improvements ensure the new Tales of Symphonia edition will have fans more than excited. With releases in North America, look for the Collector’s Edition which includes game software, an original soundtrack, figurines and more.

wtb transcript of the interview, their sound is all over the place. it's hard to tell if everything that was talked about was covered in the article.

i dont think it would have killed anyone if that guy tried to look or sound excited about the interview though

New Tales Game Reveal Coming December 12

Namco Bandai is set to reveal the next entry in the Tales franchise on December 12.

That's according to Siliconera, which reports that the announcement will be part of a NicoNico stream taking place at 7PM Japanese time. Following the stream, the teaser site will be updated as well.

A tweet on the official Tales account last week confirmed a new game was coming, though details were thin on the ground. There's already been much speculation about the name of the game, thanks to a series of trademark registrations by Namco Bandai. All we know for certain at the moment is that it'll be the 15th game in the series - whether it'll be the first entry to make the leap to PS4 remains to be seen.

We're unlikely to see the game localised for the West any time soon, especially with Tales of Xillia 2 due to head our way sometime next year, along with Tales of Symphonia Chronicles.

Regardless, as soon as the game is announced, we'll bring you all the juicy details.

Anything but another sequel, for the love of everything sacred. JRPGs don't need sequels.

On another, more relevant note (because this is utterly irrelevant and should have its own topic - just saying) I preordered the special edition. Unlike Xillia's collector's edition, this one actually seems to have content worth paying the price for. Well...sort of. I squirm at the prospect of spending £70 on a single game, but it's a game I know I'll enjoy, which takes the sting out of it a bit. Plus I want those figurines...and that novel. And the OST, assuming it's the complete soundtrack, which it had better be at that price.
