Did anyone else manage to get this?
I didn't see it in any walkthroughs, guides or FAQs. But I managed to somehow get it by exploring Ipsen's Castle (Ironically, my favourite place in the game).
It's pretty useless, but anyway, did you get it?

I got it on the second time of playing, though completely by accident, I only discovered the hidden passage that leads to it by chance. Odin's Sword isn't the most useful ability but I was glad to get it for the sake of completion.

Didn't know that this existed, but I found the passage by accident when I was trying to go someplace else. I didn't know what I was supposed to do with the vases, so I left the room without getting the upgrade. I wasn't going for completion on my first playthrough and just wanted to get through the castle.

I didn't even know this item existed, so I've never got it, despite playing through FFIX about 4-5 times.

What does it do?

And you found it in Ipsen's Castle? It might explain why I never got it, I hate that place with a passion :wacky:

I've had it quite a few times, I recently replayed FFIX and I have to tell you the worst part is that wall. I was there for like 20 bloody minutes. -_-
What does it do?
The Ancient Aroma enables Garnet (I prefer it to Dagger. <_<) to learn the Odin's Sword ability, which I think lets Odin damage enemies as well as trying to one hit kill them.
I only got it for the sake of completion, and despite the fact I always use Garnet, I never use Odin. >_>

I did. I got it the last couple of times I played, never quite understood the significance of learening it though . it was just a sake of completion for me

yeah I remeber getting this on my last playthrough, is it not in the walkthrough? I can't see how i would have got it if it's not! :neomon:

It's not really that useful as I didn't use Garnet that much, I prefered Eiko with Madeen and Double White Trance.

It took me forever to find that thing. I knew there was a reason for that room, but i never knew what it was. I never really used Garnet, so learning the skill was just for the sake of completion.

I always try to get it, since I like Odin's Sword ability, but I can never figure out the exact way to make the vases release the 'ancient aroma' item. It annoys me like hell D:

But since Odin only 1-hit killed regular monsters with ease, Odin's Sword was useful if I decided to use him on bosses :gasp:

Hmmm im still going through my first playthrough.... i used a gameshark cause i just wanna complete it right now... prolly do a completion playthrough after i beat it..... but i don't really use Garnet so i didn't bother equipping it..... but where exactly is it in Ipsen's Castle? Is it in the room with the lift where there is like the gold door looking thing on the floor and when you approach the wall the action icon appears?

After defeating Taharka, on your way out of the castle, a wall (where the message about "strong is weak" is found) near the entrance has opened up revealing a staircase. It takes you to a room with a lift. When you get to the bottom there is huge sword on the wall, and three pots on stands. After you've been there a short time, a message appears saying "To acquire my power, fight against the flow of time." Basically that means you have to move the pots so that they rotate anti-clockwise around the room. Then some flashy light will come from the sword and goes into one of the pots, and the Ancient Aroma appears inside.

It only has the "Odin's Sword" ability which enables Odin to deal damage, when instant KO will not work. I never actually benefitted from it myself, never used Odin, or any summon much.

i thaught that item came in handy, odin was pretty effective against the ozma, which i personaly found hard to beat w/o odin...

I discovered the room by mistake, I got confused. The vases really puzzled me and annoyed me, because I knew they must of been for something. When I got it, it wasn't too useful to me, but I like the completion aspect.

I really liked the item (or rather the skill that comes with it) you get a chance to 1 hit the enemy if that fails you do damage (around 6500 damage without boost) for 28 mp (14 mp with half equipped for me) does about 4x the damage of shiva who is 12 mp i think. it is interesting as well the more ore you have the less damage but the bigger chance of a death

since garnet (or dagger) was a regular member of my party after ipsen's castle (good healing spells and assist spells along with great summons) that is more damage than ark does with 145 base damage ( i believe) higher than any of vivi's spells.

I got this by accident in my first playthrough. My initial reaction was "Ahh.... That's nice". Then I read about it more and realized it had something to do with Odin.

I didn't get it during my second playthrough though. I looked everywhere, but couldn't remember where it was. :sad3:
