The Death Penalty - Do you agree with it?

Depending on the crime yes. Like if you kill someone, on purpose, then you deserve the death penalty. depending on age. My philosophy is a life for a life.

Although, if you are under 18, you need to go to jail, for X amount of years depending on the crime, in my opinion.

Why does some one need the death penalty. In America at least I dont know about else where with the death penalty it costs more to put a person through death row than throw him jail. Because of the lengthy appeals process.

It isn't like a murderer is going to escape or be let out of jail ever so that keeps him off the streets. And he isn't thrown in with regular less seriuos crimminals with a chance of rehibilation so not like he can harm them.

The only reason I see is revenge, i guess that isn't much of a good motive for the death penalty to me.

I don't agree with death penalty. And will never agree to it.

Death penalty isn't needed. Making death penalty as payment for a crime is like making crime itself. No one deserves to die. And all of us don't have the right to kill someone.
For example: A person killed someone intentionally. And you resort to death penalty.
Now I ask you. Does this make that person live again? Does this makes your thirst for what you call justice satisfy you? Revenge through death penalty doesn't bring someone back to life. It only makes you guilty. For in some reasons you are a criminal too. You took hold of the person's life, and end it for just mere revenge. Life is too important to be taken away just like that. Why not putting them behind bars forever instead? Where else can they go? They'll die there eventually...
Making it all up to God, and making Him decide what to do...for me, it's the best way.

NOTE: I am a believer. Therefore, I belive that there is God. That's why my views may differ from your's. But, mind you, not all believer have the same vies as I.

I think the death penalty should be used alot more often!!!!!!!!!!! Who better delegate who deserves life than corrupt beurocrats???????
When one person dies and someone kills someone else because of it, everyone has learned their lesson and the world is a much happier place now that two families have two less people in them.
But vigalantism is a big NO-NO.
Sure, the GOVERNMENT can kill anyone they want, torture anyone they want, detain anyone they want indefinatley, tap anyone's phone they want, but if a citizen does it...Well. If it's good enough for the bold leadership of this country, than it's CERTAINLY above the citizens to excersise force when the government fails its duty.

Death Penality it's bad too. It kills the criminal. He deserves to suffer, he killed someone, but still, the other man that it's making "justice" it's killing the criminal, so it makes the other a killer too.

Still, the criminal can't be free, he could be killing more people, and making them suffer.... This is a hard topic.

The only one that could do the WORK of this is God... mmm...

Well since there is no death penalty where i live i cant say i agree or not. But by the crimes i hear from the USA and other places i agree and dont agree. I agree for those who are criminals of being pedophiles, cause thats just not cool. I dont agree because like someone said people dont deserve to die, even if they commited murder. People who are pedophiles and or drug dealers(even though it doesnt get the death penalty it should) should be put to the death penalty because these crimes affect kids and thats not good.

I am of the opinion if you do the crime you must pay the time. If the crime warrants the death panalty then it should be used. I feel that we spend too much money on those who are waiting on death row cause they want to appeal thier cases. In my opinion they had thier chance and were found guilty by thier peers. I also think that a pedofile, rapist, basically all violent offenders should go straight to the death penalty after a fair trial of course and then executed within a couple of days or so.

Cheers

It really depends. If the crime is really worth for a death penalty then yes. But if it's just a small crime and not really important, then why kill? Me as a Christian really disagree with killing for it is a sin. But for some reason, I agree with death penalty for I think it is mans fate that she/he should die that way.

Capital punishment doesn't deter serious crime. Our justice system makes a lot of mistakes. Think about how many people have been proven innocent in the last decade just from DNA development? Without it they would be in a casket or still locked away. I'd rather have someone incarcerated for life without parole than give them death. Even for the most serious crimes. Taking a life solves nothing. I don't see punishment in that. I see it more as a release.

I agree to an extent, but do two wrongs make a right? It's like hypocrisy, on an epic scale.

I love saying this: murderers should be put to death, rapists should be castrated ;)

I use to support the death penalty heavily in my day...but that's back when I was more cynical than I am now. Putting someone to death really dosen't solve anything and you always run the risk of killing an innocent person. No matter how small the percentage is it still is there. When a person is imprisoned they still have a chance at a life.

I dont want to make enemies, so I will just ask this question.

Is it morally okay to kill someone who us not immediately threatening you?

One who infringes upon the right of another to live loses his own. Death is the only adequate restoration of the balance. But, simply for the risk of killing an innocent, it should only be applied when everyone can be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the crime took place. Prison will have to do otherwise.

Putting someone to death really dosen't solve anything
Let us see:
It deters other folks from committing the same act (yes, last time I checked, the general person DID fear death more than incarceration)
It prevents the act from being committed by the person ever again, for sure (uh, people do occasionally escape from prison, if you keep an eye on the world)
It ensures that, no matter what, the murderer is suffering a worse fate than the common innocent (prison life is quite a luxury compared to the toils many people in society go through on a day-to-day basis)
If the murderer is truly sorry for what they did, they will WANT to die

I know that, no matter what, the lost life cannot be regained. Prison does not fulfil that either. No fine, restriction or other inconvenience for the malefactor can. That is not the purpose of any punishment.

Still, do not get me wrong, this only applies to murderers. I cannot see any other crime that so irrevocably removes one's very right to life.

A fallacy I notice in many arguments against capital punishment is (would you believe it?) that we do not have the right to kill another human, even if that human is a murderer. So what gives us the right to lock 'em up, then?

If the death punishment is really so hefty in cost, well, stop being so painstaking about it. Ideally, a murderer should die the moment he murders. He has no right to last words, last meals, a farewell to everyone he knew in life, or, Sky forbid it, a humane execution.

If I see a certain murderer, and the means is mine, mark my words, I will kill him. And I will accept no guilt whatsoever for the act.

Murder and killing are about as similar as visiting a building and breaking into it.

Finally:
"Mercy to the guilty is treason to the innocent."

I just had make a similar topic on another forum. lol

Anyway, imo life should be respected, (I know what you're going to say "but did the criminal respected their victims lives?") But the point is just because someone does something that is wrong you should do the same to him/her, Jail time is a fine punishment much better than what many people seems to think, so why not use it instead of getting our hands soiled with their blood?

So in case someone didn't understood what I just said, I'm againts the Death Penalty.

I believe that there's a few that really needs to be killed because of what they have become.

I'm a firm believer in "an eye for an eye" although that'll never be implimented (America is going soft). So I'd be happy seeing murderers and rapists being put to death, and even that is like pulling teeth in this country.

The death penalty is never an acceptable punishment. I live in Oklahoma currently, and it sickens me to hear these bastards on the news brag about how many people OK has killed by means of the death penalty. I don't see why it is so hard to just let these people spend the rest of their lives in a prison cell. I think the death penalty should be banned, permanently.

if people think eye for an eye is right. than any one who kills some one should be executed. so if someone was speeding and hit someone they should be executed. or talking on a cell phone while driving and you hit someone you should be executed. Because they are breaking a law that results in someones death. what about people that are found innocent of there crimes 20 years after they were found guilty. If that person would have been executed then everybody who was involved in his execution should be executed.
