Imagine relaxing in ur most comfortable chair while you stick on a micro chip to the back on ur head. Loading ur favorite game and actually feel like ur actually there in that world as that character, moving around and acting as you would in real life. The AIs are extremely intellegent and act with all the emotions of a real human being (which would be a huge task to implement).

Imagine being in a Halo game as Master chief, with all his super heightened senses and augumented strength and reflexes mowing down covenant. Sept there's no pre set path u must follow made by developers but rather a huge world sized sandbox being able to do wat ever the hell u wanted sept with no reprocutions.

Wouldnt that be epic!?

Ya dieing would be a problem, but wow that would be one hell of a simulator =O

I think I've heard of the game, it's called life right? And it takes ages to level up, a year even. And the stupid thing is that after a while going up a level makes you weaker.

All games have some sort of path that you follow, the one that comes closest to not, that I've played is Oblivion, and that has a story line which you follow. The idea is impractible, it won't and can't happen.

The gameplay in life blows. After 23 years I still haven't figured out how you are supposed to jump... Graphics are decent though.

More authentic forms of gaming, and even "real" virtual reality like what Eternal Li is describing, could very well be the future of gaming. The fascination with "real" virtual reality in litterature, movies, and other media is almost as old as video gaming, so there's definitely an interest. The big question is WHEN such technology will be available though. I wouldn't expect to see it at next year's E3 :P

I'm a level 19 student on the Australia server ADD ME!!

Anyway, As stated by Sir Kenneth, the fascination with virtual reality is almost as old as gaming itself. To be honest I can't see something like this ever existing, I'm sure we will see the development of gaming reach new heights, but I don't think it will ever reach that level.

Further more I think the line between gaming and reality should be thicker than just a microchip in the back of my head.

you think that now but wait a couple thousand years then we will see if its impractible or not > O of course we will all be dead unless we cryogenically freeze are selfs.

Lmao you put the chip on the back of your head? Not in like a headset or something?
Our brains are going to be machines or something?

Microchip thing won't happen. At least not for another few centuries.

We've barely begun to scratch the surface with the study of how our brains work. Besides what programmer would be able to program a game into a brain? It'll be completely different and no computer programmers would be able to, it will require medical experts, biomedical engineers methinks as well.

Added! I'm a level 23 bum on the Australian server. Would you be willing to do the instance "Biker Pub"? You will tank and I will be healer and buffer (meaning I will cheer you on and pour beer into your mouth once you're knocked unconscious). You get all leather drops as long as I get dibs on all monetary drops :P

Sony filed a patent for the idea of the non-invasive beaming of different frequencies and patterns of ultrasonic waves directly into the brain to recreate all five senses a couple of years ago, so the microchip thing and directly stimulating the brain might not be necessary at all.
