The Orange Box is probably the best deal going around atm, for under $50 (£25 or so) you get the following games.
  • Half-Life 2
  • HL2: Episode 1
  • HL2: Episode 2
  • Team Fortress 2
  • Portal
Each of these games is among the best released within the last few years and all of them are defiantly worth the purchase. It's also on the PS3 and Xbox 360 but I'm sticking it here since it's a PC game first.

Who else has bought this (on any format) and what are you're thoughts?

My boyfriend actually downloaded this off of Steam. He already had Half-Life 2 and gave it to me. Five games for a price 50 dollars. What can go wrong there!?

I never played any Valve games before but wow, they really studied the human body. The faces of the characters in Half-Life 2 are so real, and the faces are so detailed. The graphics over all are probably the best I've seen for a game that was released in 2004.

As for Portal, I've been playing it whenever I have the chance. I'm at the last challenge, so I better be getting cake at the end! I love this game so far. I hope Valve continues to make more puzzle games.

Valve games play great on my computer since I have two ATI cards. :monster:

Portal = 3 hours of gaming greatness with the very best ending credits ever. Don't know if Portal will get a sequel but we may not have seen the last of the Portal Gun.

Only sad things about the Orange Box is the very minor problems I have with some games of TF2 I play like major turtling of CTF 2Fort and how I'll probably need to wait another 1.5 years til HL3: Episode 3.

Hell, yes! If I had the money, I would definitely buy the orange box, though I already own a copy of Half-Life 2. All the other titles merit all, if not more than, the price on the package.

I also whole-heartedly agree. Just the original Half-Life 2 is 10 times better than Halo from an influence standpoint, think how much better the whole orange box is?

I got this for the PS3 and HL2, Ep 1 and 2, and Portal are all a blast to play. The ending song to Portal was hilarious.

HL2 was definitely fun. I liked going through all the locations, except for Ravenholm....that place freaked me out. My favorite level was Nova Prospekt because of the Antlions you got to control that was just so much fun letting them do all the dirty work through most of the level.

You completed Ep2 yet? Because the last action sequence battling the Hunters and Striders is the best gaming experience I've had in ages.

Advice for HL2, firstly save your ammo against the small fry, you can use the crowbar to kill most headcrabs as well as the basic zombies with little to no damage if your careful.

The only headcrab to fear is the one that poisons you and puts your health down to 1 (it regenerates quickly but still dangerous especially with other headcrabs around) which you can tell with the sound it makes and it's blacker/darker appearance, the other two cause little damage.

When you get it the Gravity Gun is your friend, especially in Ravenholm. Use whatever objects you can find like saw blades, explosive canisters and bricks and just throw it at them.

That's all I can think of atm.

I'm playing through HL2 again and just completed Nova Prospekt. I probably send hundreds of Antlions to their deaths throughout that entire level and I love every minute of it!

Never thought that squeezing a bugs testicle would be enjoyable in any game but it's great fun leading legons of antlions to their doom, shame it's only used for one section.

I of course thought way too much into it, I can't even remember what it actually is.

Anyway the coolest weapon that you can carry is still the uber charged Gravity Gun, there's just something about flinging Combine soldiers through the air that's so satisfying.

You tried Team Fortress 2? Noticed you've not mentioned it yet.

My PS3 isn't connected to the internet, so no on the TF2. Though I have played Team Fortress Classic on the PC before and that was tons of fun, especially on low gravity servers.

The super charged gravity gun is also a lot of fun, I would sometimes pick up soldiers and fling them into those weird devices, kind of like a small generator or something, and watch them float inside of it, and if they get to the center of it they will disappear.

Plus it was pretty cool to tear the computer consoles and monitors off the wall.

You can't play TF2? You poor soul. You can always get it on PC I suppsoe if you're desperate but connecting the PS3 to the internet shouldn't be difficult, saying that the console versions are cut down server wise. You'd get 16 players max, PC players get up to 32 player games.

I found you can take Dog's ball with you to Ravenholm and use it against the zombies there. It will kill any headcrab on it's own, and will distract zombies, but it won't electrocute them.

Unfortunately you can't take it out of Ravenholm.

I illegally DL'ed portal
loved it to bits.
then one day (2 days ago)
my mom bought me the orange box for the 360.

im playing HL2 ATM ^^

I bought the Orange Box just before Christmas and have so far tried Portal and Half-Life 2. I was enjoying Portal up until a certain point, simply because thinking isn't exactly my forte so to speak. Half-Life 2 is my first real taste of a PC shooter, so far it's pretty decent but I'm still not proficient enough with the mouse and keyboard settings, I still prefer to use controllers for fps games.

That's why I haven't started on Team Fortress 2 yet, although it's the reason I bought the thing mostly, just loved the thought of being able to torch anything to ashes. I get the feeling if I tried to play it at the moment I'd just get creamed.
