Photo taken from a commercial jet over the Gulf of Mexico. This is what they dont want you to see. The big picture, oil as far as the eye can see...

This is horrendous. Damn, so much oil, down the tubes.

[Mod Edit: Please add more detail, since this is in a post count section. We Appreciate it =)]

This oilspill could result in higher taxes, obvious harm to human and marine life and it's just plain.. horrible. Humans really screwed this one up. I'm sure there are/will be dire consequences - it's inevitable.

Like all those dire consequences from Exxon Valdez in 1989? Or when BP had a pipe leak in Alaska in 2006? Nothing will happen. A year from now, it'll just be a footnote in history. Of course, two years from now, Republican Candidate X's campaign team will try to slam Obama with this to get votes. Then it'll die away again.

Damn, man. This is exactly what the man wants. Some terrible event to use as an excuse to raise taxes.

I can't believe how bad it is.

Thing is though, there are plenty of politicians who have tons of money invested in oil who wouldn't want this. I think it was really just a case of carelessness on the part of BP, but something tells me if it was going to spill into their own homes they would've been a lot more careful :jtc: If it's the home of tons of animal species, they could give a crap, unless it's an animal they eat. Otherwise people wouldn't still be proposing new drilling stations in the Arctic 8( Or in national parks, other roadless areas, etc. Unfortunately, no matter how many nature shows people watch or how many "green bags" they go shopping with, most people really could give a crap, unless it happens in their own backyard; that's why people still use products made with palm oil from Indonesian rainforests and countless other things that aren't taken from their own living environment. So they have no idea what the effect is. I predict as a result of all this wasted oil that there are going to be new drilling stations in most of the places they promised not to do it in; and all the cheapest, crappiest, least efficient forms of renewable energy that already exist (like windfarms with regular turbines :rage: rather than microturbines) are going to be thrust into the spotlight in droves. Which will only do more damage, because most consumers aren't going to use less energy as a result of hearing about an energy shortage (which an oil spill qualifies as), and we'll just keep tearing up more and more resources until we learn how to better manage our population. Which due to human rights issues will happen like, never.

I just thought I would jump in and say that BP is like a Mother Company so they recieve the blame. I can't remember the name of the company who were in charge of the Alaska pipe leak, but BP did get the shit for that.

As for the Gulf of Mexico, it actually belongs to Amaco, who are an American company and I think generally based in Texas. So it kind of pisses me off that a lot of people point the finger at BP when BP don't have anyone there so to speak. Amaco still runs it and still pays their employers. Amaco are also known for their faulty safety checks and what not too =D

Anyways, my Daddy dearest worked for BP until Monday when he was poached by Q8, but he has said it's completely fucked the company. The amount of money lost is so unbelievable. they've froze out all share schemes and no work bonuses for the next few years. It's a total disaster to the company, and even more so environmentally. I honestly hope they have stopped to leak for good, but even so, the damage caused is tremendous. This wil be brought up for years to come.

It's just :ffs: They've been putting it off in the sense that they didn't tell the public until I think a while after it had begun :ffs: It's the fact of the matter that Obama says that they're trying to do something but I see no improvement whatsoever. In fact, it's spreading and getting far and far more worse. >_<

It's sad, really.

Higher taxes? isn't that just dandy?

yeah, I was on a plane this week, and we flew over the gulf. There was a lot more oil than water there, it was horrible. Everybody on the plane thought the oil was water and the water was the oil. It was pretty bad.

the Gulf of Mexico is royally fucked. everyone living on the coast of the Gulf is royally fucked. if they aren't careful, Florida will be royally fucked. the marine eco-system is irreversibly damaged, as are the economies along the coast, as are the lives of the people who live there. all this because of one explosion on an oil rig. this shit is so messed up i have no idea what i should be feeling - anger? sadness? incredulity? all this shit because of one fuck-up. and few among the public really care. to them it's an exciting (or was) headline-of-the-night and nothing more. most of them have probably forgotten it ever happened. none of them really give a thought to how much the biosphere has been changed by this event. none of them care about the people along the coast whose entire livelihood has been destroyed. i suppose it's selfish to think that they should care, but damn, this whole thing is just sad. sad to hear, sad in that the whole situation is just pathetic, entirely preventable.

i need a drink.

At a glance it looks like Afghanistan till I read the caption.

If this does not push the need for a less damaging Lubricant and sustainable fuels I dont know what will?

Renewable Energy companies got a huge freakin amount of free advertising from this debacle...........They care about the small people.....hey BP i got suggestion that might help:
