The Spirits Within [The Spirits Within] So who else wants to pretend this film never existed?

Perhaps you should all stop being so closed minded and look at this not as final fantasy but as a film in general?

But it has Final Fantasy in the title... >_< and is supposed to be associated with the game and it's not --- at least in most minds anyway.
Sorry.

We're constructively criticizing it, of course. And obviously, as with all movies, there are flaws, we just like exposing them.
And if we did talk about this in general, it's like saying this is just some movie.....which it is not. I mean, all right, I admit I like the graphics, but that was all.

My opinion though.

As I said Warbourne the only true staple of Final Fantasy is a drama revolving around the fate of a world which is either caused by a perversion of its elements or saved by utilization of its elements. That basic plot is what all Final Fantasys are -- Everything else is fan service.

1.Lets the main character is a girl who keeps dreaming and annoyng us.
2.the fight a monsters who can't be killed.
3.the storyline is too damn boring!

from wiki:

Parallels to the video games

Although the film was based on none of the (then) existing nine games plus numerous spinoffs, a number of references and parallels to elements of the games are noticeable:
The name of Dr. Sid was born from the fact that there has been a character by the name of Cid in almost every Final Fantasy game.
The film introduces the same blend of science fiction technology (the future setting, spaceships) and magic/spirituality (Gaia, spirits) that Final Fantasy VI, VII and VIII were noted for.
The lair of the film's main antagonists and the location of the film's climax, was located in a crater in some remote mountains. In Final Fantasy VII, Sephiroth also resided in a crater in the Northern Crater's mountain range, which is where the game's final battle takes place.
The concept of Gaia (the "living planet") in the film is almost identical to the concept of the Lifestream and Planet in Final Fantasy VII.
The film uses abstract naming for military units that give the appearance of a direct translation from Japanese, in this case Deep Eyes (as opposed to SOLDIER in Final Fantasy VII, SeeD in Final Fantasy VIII, etc.)
The well-known Chocobo wouldn't fit in such a futuristic movie, but they made it to show one. On one of Aki's document folders a little image of a chocobo is shown.
In Final Fantasy XI there's a sword weapon skill called Spirits Within.
General Hein and the bad sorcerer Hein from Final Fantasy III, as well as the unshown evil father of sorcresses Hein/Hyne are sharing the same name (at least it's pronounced the same).

And this film was so bad it bankrupted Square Pictures.

*shaking my head*

I'm so with ya. No offence but for the whole movie I was asleep (not :P) It was sooo boring and pointless. Though in the begging I've noticed that the company of FF film was called Square Pictures:huh: Like what does that supposed to mean?!

hmmmm i thought it was a good movie (in a way it was rly boring) but i dont think of it as final fantasy.

I liked it. Twas a pretty good film. It had a couple of elements of Final Fantasy. It had a dude named Cid. It had a party of characters who had different abilities and strengths. It had a love story behind it. They had to collect some wierd thing to save the world. (Spirits, in this case, instead of crystals). It was alot like Final Fantasy in many ways.

Yes It had great graphics but that's not enaugh. I think it was pure boring

I don't know what Square was thinking when they did this movie. =/. I was expecting it to be like a true FF title and have fighting and battles and such...but no. It was nothing like that at all. Quite lame. I don't even remember the main characters name. This movie was just okay. If it didn't have the FF title then I could rate it better. lol.

Well some of the voice actors are voice actors for FFX. I know Seymour and i think a couple of othere voiced some of the charaters. The storyline is interesting. Be a great RP.

No, I like it how it is, and for what it was. Granted, it could have done without the Final Fantasy name, but visually it's still a benchmark film as far as CG is concerned, and that's saying something for a movie that's six years old. Visually, I think it was ahead of its time. Story-wise, it was typical sci-fi fare, but with a more Eastern philosophy tied to it.

yeah this filmed sucked every copy in the world should be drowned in petrol and blown up.....

It would be good if they actually made a final fantasy film like the games with battles, magic, summons and such...that i would actually pay to see...

the movie was awesomely bad
i keep wanting to watch it from start to finish but its just so frikin' boring. i always fall asleep or just start doing something else

its just another one of those very bad movies that are based on some extremely awesome games. tsk, tsk

Actually, it was dreadfull. It was Aliens without the human element. I saw it 3 times at the cinema hoping I could say just one good thing about it.....

In the end I did! It was that it allowed the advancement of CGE. Thats the best I could do, I soooo wanted it to be great. It wasn't. Face it.
