The World Destruction scene

The party was scattered, and many of the characters had given up hope and had found lives within this shattered world and did not feel like going against Kefka initially. A lot of people were resigned to their defeat.

That was one of the things that had the biggest impression on me. Your own party characters, who in games are normally gungho about saving the world, suddenly just feel like giving up, and take on the most normal lives they possibly can, just like any other NPC. It's completely flooring. I think two of the most emotional ones for me were
Setzer sitting in the bar in Kohlingen
, and
Cyan sending the letters to the woman in Maranda.
One of the greatest things about this game was that it had awesome, amazing character development, and scenes like this were particularly good for that. A lot of the characters in the game, including those two, had already suffered great hardships and losses in their personal lives before the world was destroyed, and then for that to happen, especially when they might even feel like it was their responsibility to stop Kefka and they failed...just, wow.

Well said Argor. I mean Mobliz was completely devastated. Only kids had remained pretty much. Albrook seemed to have undergone a change too, with many people sitting by the fires outside and being in poverty. Even in all the other places, although you could tell people were trying to come to terms with what happened and move on, it's just not the same as the world before the incidence. Even that one bartender reminisces of those wonderful days of happiness. The people went from living to just surviving, which is a big difference. I think that atmosphere of hopelessness was captured brilliantly.

This was another really big thing. Well said :dave: If you take the time to walk around and talk to all the NPCs before and after the destruction, it really does give you a good contrast of the atmosphere. The NPCs in the towns were extremely well done, in that you could get a multi-dimensional feel of everything that was going on just from a few lines of dialogue with each one of them. Plus, with the way the graphics were done, IMO the towns themselves actually looked extremely realistic, in that the colors were never all that bright in the first place, and the details given to the ruined buildings I thought were quite profound considering the graphic capabilities of the era. Maybe it's because there were a lot of browns used, but I also thought the ruined towns looked somewhat dirty, which added to the realism as well :hmmm:

Cyan, Setzer and Edgar's chance at a normal life was a surprise to me, until I learned that Edgar was just trying
to get back to his castle to help his people and the world
. I like that Sabin and Celes didn't stray off the path though. ^.^

That part (The second spoiled content in your post) got to me T.T
Cyan's part was just so emotional. Such a caring man...

Did anyone else tear up a bit during the train scene with his family? That got me.

Omg
Sabin's Train scene was one of the most emotional parts of the game for me. I think there's a part where you can go back to his castle and enter his minsd in some funky dimentsion or something like that.

Anyways the charactsers and NPCs after the world destruction scene made the scene feel so real! I mean I agree with everything that had already been said. I figured this scene was the end of the game essentially! I was so shocked, and then seeing all of the characters adapting to the world and basically giving up hit me. This scene changed the whole mood of the game and made such a great impact! I could never forget it. I also think it amazingly broke many of the cliche view that heroes always win every battle and all that blah. Sure
The won in this game as they do every FF
but this game had created that doubt that maybe the battle they were fighting was too much. ugh I could ramble about this for days. but alas, sleep calls to me.

@OliverSKX:

It made me doubt they'd win :x3: I thought, "Oh noes! They all die? That's never happened before!" I was about to start crying, but
then I saw Celes lying in a bed and Cid beside her
. I was so relieved lol

The destruction scene was perfect. It should just how powerful Kefka became and how evil he was (which is over 9000! lol). He became so powerful,
he caused tectonic shifts and the massive reformation of the world, killing off all vegetation, hope and human lives!

The scene was so impressive that it still sends chills down my spine. I wonder what it would look like remade lol Probably even scarier. :x3:

(P.S: There are two things I love most to talk about -- FF6 and Dragons. I could talk all day about FF6 xD)

In a way it also made me wonder what each character was up to. The destruction scene consumes you so much that you actually do feel like you're living there in World of Ruin and I kept wondering "What is the [insert character here] up to these days?". I was in a way impatient to find everyone and to get them back into my party.

Agreed. I actually did feel kinda emotional at the end of that train scene when
he saw his family board it
. He is one of my favourite characters in the game, both personality-wise and to use in battle. I don't know why I saw him appear on many people's "worst character" position in the favourites and worsts lists topic.

Ahaha, I was also impatient and I wondered the same thing. I was always thinking, especially for Shadow and Gau, "What are they doing?"

I wondered the same for everyone else and then saw what Terra was doing, Setzer and Edgar and even Locke. I love how the game filled you with enough care for the characters to well....care for the characters and what they were doing.

Leo wasn't
even in the game long but by what he did and what he said and how real he was, was enough for me to grow attached to him and then get stricken with sadness at his death.

I don't see how any character could be bad. Personally, if anyone was on my "worst" list its not because they are a horrible character, just not among my top favs, ya know?

Cyan's role after the scene was great. It made the player, or at least me, go "Aw, Cyan's so...so!" :x3:

VI was my first ff game, i think i was about 8 when i played it for the first time.
I honestly thought i had finished the game before that point and i had really enjoyed it, then next thing i know Kefka escaped and everything was just chaos, i couldn't deal with it, i was actually quite scared, but at the same time i was amazed at the twist i just did not see coming whatsoever.
This is the scene that started my love affair with this series!

I enjoyed that scene a lot, basically it solidified Kefka as a really evil, powerful and twisted vilan which was great.

I remember seeing the ground split in two and seeing those people falling inside the hole and saying "Kefka you bastard!"

All you can do is sit back and watch as the world falls to ruin all due to the power of one crazy man, i guess that's why i like Kefka so much too.

And the music which plays during that scene fits perfectly.

Terra Branford
After you post I have checked Terra's song appears mostly in different variations.
I know. Awesome right? :)

Her theme song is the most used song in any FF game. Re-used, re-mixed -- all that.
World map, her theme and a few other points, but with different sound to it.

@ Terra: Ah yes, Leo is one of my favourite characters too. I wish we got to use him more in the game (felt the same about Beatrix in FFIX).
