OK, so you've just rocked up to Centra Ruins, and obtained Odin, oh, but wait! you find out you have to also kill 20 Tomberries, in order to summon the King Tonberry to obtian him as a GF.

You go outside, save then go back in.

You run inside, and you get into a battle. Do you utilize the boost ability on your GF's for extra damage, or do you just set the cursor to 'memory' and just hold down the 'X' button with the GF command highlighted?

Me? I'm too lazy to 'boost' up, considering Diablos makes short work of them by doing 9999 dmg. :ryan:

meh by the time I went and got Odin It was before lunatic Pandora battles I dident go back for tonberry king till I needed him ((Before Ultimecia)) I just use him for the portible shop's really I pass the SeeD tests to the high level's ((Level 10 or something)) and I not much for buying items so I had round 200,000+

As for the battle I just simply used Aura on squall, and spammed Lionheart had Selphie and Rinoa on Support

I dont really use GF's other than juctioning stats unless its shiva... =F

I usually used the Boosts when I summoned GFs. Regardless of the opponent. It's almost like a really lame mini game. I do usually grow tired of it when I played the game for awhile. I think I just nuked Tonberrys with my typical Irvine + Aura + AP Ammo strat. That ends everything(I notice I mention this tactic a lot in FFVIII threads :hmmm: ).

Why even use GFs? Cerberus, Triple haste. Then spam Diablos and Triple cast Demi. Thats all you need. And the spells are easy to come by. If you fought long enough in D-District prison .

I didn't think the Diablos/Demi strat worked on the King?! That doesn't usually work on bosses or summon battles, which is what the King is Oo

starting out the battle with Quistis' Micro missiles works a treat, i can usually power through those fights quite quick with the same battle tactic, i can never be arsed using GF's the sequences take too loong

Why not just bring Quistis in your party with low health and then just spam degenerator? I would think that would give you an easy road to the King (I've always just used brute force to kill them, which takes forever.)

How does Micro Missiles work? Is it like, an ordinary attack, or is it like Demi based or something? I've never really used that Blue Magic, Lol.

Micro Missiles cuts the enemy's HP in half.

And no, Demi/Diablos doesn't work on the king. But considering he has Full-Life to draw, as long as you watch health, you can just beat him with normal attacks. Use Aura if you need to. It's more just another test of your patience.

I mainly used Irvine's limit break with AP ammo as it hits multiple times doing 9999 damage each hit. It's also handy that Tonberry's drop chef knifes which convert into AP ammo. Zell's limit breaks work well but take more time and effort then Irvine's.

I rarely fall into a routine in battles in FF8. Especially with the Tonberries, I always tried different things to see what worked. Diablos is admittedly one of the better ways to whittle down HP before finishing them off, but I find that spamming Squall's Renzokuken is just a good way of making Tonberries massively unhappy as any.

You need to have the third option, which was used Diabolos without it being on memory, cause that's what I did for that area. Though for the actual fight I already had good junction stats so was doing around 2,000 I believe with each hit, other then that I would summon Shiva and some others in the fight. Not for extra damage but more for a little quick damage in short burst while I get one of the other characters back on spell duty if certain ones failed.

Haha yeah, true. o be honest i totally forgot about adding Diablos in the poll options. Also. by that time i'm usually doing around 5-6k a hit with most of my characters anyway, FF8's gotten way too easy :gonk:

I remember the days when i'd spend like 2 days trying to kill Tonberries....was so damned hard just killing 1 of em back in the day, now they're all piss-easy. :sad3:
