Pretty self-explanatory. What show are you currently watching?

At the moment I’m not watching anything since I just finished a Chinese TV series called The Princess Weiyoung the other night, and I was incredibly hooked from start to finish. Okay, the first episode was really cheesy but it gets better.

That’s it from me. What about you guys?

:gasp: This person has wrapped me into this series and I'm binging it at an unhealthy rate! Somehow I've watched 12 hours of episodes in 6!

Please send help

It was totally cheesy at first. 🧀

I watched the HBO series Chernobyl this week...

It is not an easy watch!

It was very well made and has a brilliant cast with powerful, convincing performances. It presents the significance of the disaster and the harrowing cost of it all, from multiple perspectives.

Be warned that it is very graphic, though with good reason. These are scenes we don't want to see repeated again.

I'm in the middle of watching/catching up on a show called the Outlander on Hulu. It's about a woman who is transported from her time (1946) back into the 18th century, Scotland. It's not usually my cup of tea but I've been sucked in and have really been enjoying the series. I'm not much of a book reader but I'm tempted to invest some time into the novels as well.

On the side I'm also re-watching and catching up on Veronica Mars on Hulu as well. We watched this when I was a young teen but they cancelled the series after 3 seasons. They finally made a 4th after a Kickstarter and the newest season should begin by the end of next week. 🙃

I'm grateful to my mother in law who lets us leech off of her Netflix & Hulu accounts 💕

I'm about half way through Stranger Things season 3.

Those kids have certainly grown up a lot since the last season! I'm enjoying it. I still think that season 1 was by far the best, but I enjoy all of the characters and it remains well written.

I've just finished season 3 of Jessica Jones.

I think it was certainly back on form. I didn't dislike season 2 necessarily, but it was clearly inferior to season 1 so a lot of people felt disappointed by it. Season 3 is closer in quality to season 1, with a compelling story and sinister villain.

It also serves as good (though poignant) note to end the Netflix Marvel era. I am still sad and furious with Marvel and Netflix for dropping all of these MCU shows, but at least it ended on a high.

I finished watching Siren on Hulu. It was... well, I am interested in it anyway. Wasn't expecting the threesome relationship? Anyway, I caught up on the most recent seasons and will probably invest in the third if that happens. I can't help it, I like things related to the sea and whatnot.

Looking for something new to watch. I've been holding off on Stranger Things season 3 (I know, I'm late!) because my husband wanted to watch it together, which apparently is impossible when one of you works 3rd shift. We'll see!

I'm currently going between Friends and His Dark Materials.

Friends is my all time favourite TV series even though I was way behind in terms of watching it; before the end of last year / beginning of this year, I'd only seen half a dozen episodes - I've now seen all ten seasons at least four times! It is absolutely my go to TV series when there is nothing else I want to watch or want some background noise.

His Dark Materials has been an excellently made series so far with a strong cast - Dafne Keen is an outstanding actress and is certainly destined for huge things as she gets older. It's has been a while since I read the novels, so I can't remember if the series has been entirely true to them, but I think it's done a much greater justice than The Golden Compass - the film wasn't dreadful by any means, but a whole series per book should be doing a better job with handling the detail than a two hour film, if it's done well.

Picard.

I watched the first episode tonight. It was quite enjoyable! It felt a bit like Logan meets Blade Runner.
There are parts that are slow paced, but not necessarily boring (at least not to me). It has enough references to The Next Generation (and others) to appeal to fans, but also sets things up to move the story of Star Trek forward again.

For a long time Star Trek has been looking back, looking in on itself at what had come before and reimagining the past. Now we get to see what happens later.

I've also recently started The Witcher, but I am only one episode in and I am completely unfamiliar with the lore. I enjoyed it but it is too early to say how much I'll enjoy it as a whole.

I'm quite disappointed by the ending of Picard, I must say. The series started strong but seemed to drop the ball in the past couple of episodes, unfortunately.

But the past couple of weeks I've been watching The Mandalorian. 8 weeks I guess now... Coronavirus lockdown has made me lose all sense of time.
I've just seen the last episode, though I probably should have waited to do that on May the 4th.

I thought it was brilliant. I really cared for the characters in it. It is probably my favourite Star Wars thing in years. I love the Western vibes, and the soundtrack is amazing. My only gripe is that it seemed too short (both the length of the season and each individual episode). I know season 2 is meant to be not too far away, but with 8 episodes of 40 minutes it has left me wanting a lot more. Especially considering that this is the real reason I signed up for Disney+ and the Marvel shows aren't due to be releasing until much later.

That said, the desire for more Mandalorian is the sign of a good thing in itself rather than a bad thing.

Just finished up 13 Reasons Why a bit ago, which I thought was pretty good and hope they do a Season 4 on. Me and my wife constantly do Grey’s Anatomy re-runs, and we still have to catch up with and finish How to Get Away with Murder which we stopped in season 3.

Designated Survivor season 1.

This is something I probably wouldn't have started watching if it hadn't been for lockdown. I mean, I haven't been watching more than one episode a day or anything so I haven't binged it (I'm not a fan of doing that), but it wouldn't have occurred to me if I hadn't kept my mind open to watching something I'd previously overlooked.

I'm quite enjoying it. It is a bit far-fetched but has an odd sort of relevance. With the uncertainty around which characters can be trusted it does remind me of the first season of Homeland with a dash of Daredevil's Kingpin thrown in. If that comparison makes sense.

I started watching Ratched last night. 😬

This is a rather unexpected prequel to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest depicting how Nurse Ratched came to be... And she is just as chilling in this as she was in One Flew.

Horrifying in fact. It's very disturbing to see the medical procedures aiming to improve mental health such as lobotomies. Meanwhile, Ratched herself is manipulative and cold. She works her way through the labyrinth of the mind and gets what she wants. The music and cinematography really do work wonderfully for it as well.

I've only seen up to episode 2, but I'll definitely continue. It is well-made, even if it is uncomfortable viewing at times.

EDIT - Unfortunately I gave up after three or four episodes. Might go back to it one day, but not this day. It became quite uncomfortable to watch.

I've really fallen behind on TV. The only two ongoing shows I'm watching and also using as placeholders to mark which day of the week it is (!) are
"Ghosts" a cute and entertaining BBC sitcom about Ghosts. It's not hilarious, but in the same way Red Dwarf isn't funny funny funny, the entertainment comes from watching the Dwarfers in each week's situation. Ghosts has already reached a level of familiarity and it's only it's second series.
I did record every episode of Chernobyl. On my Sky box. Which then malfunctioned. I could follow instructions to record stuff.. but that will mean deleting everything recorded since 2010!
Also really I'm really loving Wentworth Prison. Seeing on Facebook groups everywhere saying how this series is slow. But when it gets going, it's pretty untouchable!

Wandavision. It's really quite amazing. The first MCU series on Disney Plus and I'm enjoying it.

On the one hand, the sitcom style comedy is actually funny, especially if you are familiar with the characters Wanda and Vision in the MCU. I actually laughed out loud a few times. And then it transitions in and out into mysterious, creepy scenes where Wanda is aware that this isn't right. It's definitely got the vibes of a David Lynch project in addition to The Truman Show.

It's great so far!

:lew: I started watching this based on your suggestion! I've been a bit behind on a few Marvel things I'll admit, but really enjoyed the first two episodes of Wandavision. Laughed a few times as well! Thanks for the suggestion, I'm now officially watching this series now too. :)

So i finished the queens gambit and also parasyte this week, i was really surprised at how much i enjoyed queens gambit, i wasnt expecting much from a show about chess tbh, but i really enjoyed it. other than the being super smart prodigy part, i could relate to some of the personal struggles of the main character, and was surprised at how much it really sucked me in, to the point i watched it all over two days. Also finished parasyte this week as well, which was quite enjoyable

problem is now, i seem to find myself between games and tv series which is why im skulking around on the fourms again lol

I finished watching The Terror (season 1) the other day. It was pretty good! Really terrifying with slow, atmospheric horror. It essentially adds a supernatural element to a very real, unexplained historical tragedy (the Franklin Expedition to find the North West Passage, 1845-1846). The supernatural element doesn't detract too much from the genuine horror of being in an environment that doesn't care one iota whether you live or die. The human stories are pretty strong too.

I've also started watching Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I'm enjoying it. Certainly exceeding my expectations so far, though it isn't genre-breaking in the way that Wandavision was. Instead, it has the feel of Captain America: Winter Soldier rather than a generic superhero show, which is fitting, and the individual plotlines for both characters (and how they intersect) are quite intriguing.
