I just have to share this!

So last night I did the Deep Sea Lab quest. I got all the way down to the bottom with Squall, Zell, and Irvine. Ultima Weapon is no joke! I got wiped out a few times in a row really quick. So I decided to swap out Irvine for Quistis (come to think of it I probably should have gotten rid of Zell instead, Irvine's limit would have done more damage). All three of them are level 100.

I got whooped another few times, then it dawned on me I should junction Quake to my Elem-Def so he heals me when he casts it. Of course once I did that he pretty much never used the spell again. Bastard!

I lost a few more battles, it was getting quite late, I have to be up early for work, but I couldn't go to sleep until I killed the damn thing!

I finally get a good battle going. I was probably a good 20+ minutes into the fight, spending most of the time healing, bringing my guys back to life, and re-casting spells like Triple, Haste, and Aura. Every once in a while one of my characters would get a limit break off. I also managed to steal the Three Stars and draw Eden. Eventually I'm at a point where Quistis is dead, Squall and Zell are down to 2000 HPs but have Aura and Haste on them. Feeling like it's now or never, instead of reviving Quistis or healing, I decide to go all out. I get lucky and am able to land a limit break from Zell, then Squall. Ultima fires back with Quake... phew, healed me for around 1000. I get two more average limit breaks off, then he kills Zell.

So it's Squall all alone, with around 3000 HPs left. So I go for it, one more Renzokuken... WHAM, I land a ton of hits... and then... for literally the first time ever... LION HEART!!! And down goes Ultima Weapon!!

That might have been the most excited I've gotten over a video game since I was a little kid!

I suppose the first thing to ask is, did you not have Leviathan's Recover or Alexander's Revive on different party members? That would've made it a lot easier.

No I didn't haha... but I had 100 Full-Life on each of my guys. I suppose Recover might have been helpful, but I found myself using Triple Curagas a lot so I'm not sure how often I would have used Recover. Especially if the character with Recover wasn't ready for their next turn yet. I used a new save block after I killed it so I could go back and do it again just for fun if I felt like it. Maybe I'll give it another shot just for kicks and see how that goes.

With a high enough Mag, Life would be better than Full-Life since you can use Full-Life on your Elem-Def to resist Ultima. Triple is also uneccesary - Double is more than enough. As for your defenses, you need to have someone able to be hit by it to make the boss waste turns. Hence why Ultima and Full-Life are good for Def here since they can minimize the damage and cause the weapons to waste turns. Ideally, you start with Cerberus and Doomtrain with the third character ready to heal/cast Aura if need be.

Another way to beat Ultima Weapon is use Rinoa's limit break: Angel Wing with 100 Meteor and some magic that she cannot cast under AngelWing status like Triple, Dispel, Aura, Full-life, Protect, etc. And make sure to maximize her magic stat to 255 before battle.

If you think Ultima weapon was a monster, just wait to see Omega Weapon. He will be much more difficult, even at level 100 with maxed junctions and all secret GFs. By far the hardest fight in the whole game. Thank god it's optional.

He is a perfect asshole on your first play through. It wasn't until my 2nd time through the game that I made mincemeat of him on sight. I was eating deep fried Weapon then :)

It's sort of like running into Ruby Weapon for the first time on VII. You think you have what it takes, and then...

R.I.P.
You feel as small as the tiny violin playing to your miserable attempt lol.

I got SUPER lucky with Ultima when I played. I lost like four times, then I managed to get Zell's 12 second limit break AND Rinoa's Wishing Star. Aside from that, I had Dark Side equipped on Squall and used Rinoa as a constant healer so I could keep that up
