After replaying my copy of FFIII, I realised the character's personalities were very undeveloped, I mean, we realise that Luneth is adventurous and brave and what not, but they aren't developed. The characters barely have friendship with eachother, save for Luneth and Arc, it just doesn't show to me... How do you guys feel about it? I wanna know...

Arc developed throughout the game ... He was the only one who did, though XD

Luneth and Arc are friends, obviously. Refia has her own quirkiness that can come off as friendly and mischievous. Ignus is rather bland though ...

They all have their own personalities, but, only Arc has clear development as a character. I suppose that Desch and Alus might have some development, but not as much as Arc does.

Yeah same here. I found myself actually making up crazy storylines just to make a little more depth, like "ingus likes refia but refia is really in love with luneth and luneth wants to commit suicide cuz he looks so girly." Yeah. wierd. It felt like the producers just thought theyre gonna rake in money, so what do they care. I thought ingus and arc had somewhat develpment. You could tell ingus was determined, and that he was cool. The only one who had absolutely NO develepment was refia. I cant even remember what her crystal light power thingy was.

Refia was kindness, wasn't she? But yeah, despite Ingus' blandness, he WAS cool. XD I think the reason there was little development to everyone but Arc, was becuase the game was directly translated to English from Japanese and had the console, graphics and music changed. They didn't bother to add to the characters, and gnerally speaking, games from that time period didn't develop character much, except for RPG's. (By that I mean Arc.)

Luneth ~ Light of Courage
Arc ~ Light of Kindness
Refia ~ Light of Affection
Ingus ~ Light of Determination

I'm sure that's how it went ...

But yeah, the developers could have tried SO much harder with this game. I mean, they are for IV, so why not this game? Oh yeah, this game was never released, so it didn't matter if the storyline/characters sucked, expectations weren't high ¬_¬

Arc didn't suck, however :P

In my NES (emulator) version, the characters don't even start with names. They are reffered to as 4 orphans and thier own adoptive father does not differentiate between them. FF2 on the NES at least has some difference between the characters. But I am not that far anyway so hopefuly the characters will be elaborated on later. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

They could have better personalities and some group-internal storyline, but this kind of helped the games "customisability" (is that a word?)
Ingus had a personality, it was a silent one. Every final fantasy has your silent, mysterious character.

Yep Ingus was cool and characters were underdeveloped but I´m glad they had personalities. Hey it is remake and it is always big plus if remake isn´t too far away from original. Though III new characters are so interesting that I would have liked they would be used in some other FF-game. Like Dissidia but that is very unlikely to happen.

These characters have the emotional range of a teaspoon because the script is over 10 years old; on the super famicom, characters didn't get the kind of development that characters on the new systems do.

I can see where you are coming from but apart from personal background's it is very difficult for SE to give them 'personalities' and development because of the DS limitations, body language is extremely important to judge a personality and due to the small memory of DS games (ie, FFIII) movement will naturally be very little. The same goes with voices, the tone of voice also is very important on how you judge someones character and without that there is little emotions. I somewhat agree with you but at the same time they were never going to be developed characters.

With the older games, I never really expect much in the way of character development to be honest so I wasn't all that fussed about the lack of it

I thought there was enough to keep me intersested but not completely lacking like FFI was. That just sucked >_<
