Using Magic

Except for GF. GFs take to long and cause too little damage. I never even junction the GF command, and always junction ITEM instead (or CARD), because it gives you more options.

This isn't true if you don't AP whore in the beginning. My GF's would often cause like 2000-4500 damage with my characters doing about 200-280 on the beginning and middle of disk 2. Thats pretty invaluable especially when you use them your party member can't take damage.

That's true, I suppose. I usually go to Balamb beach before the Dolet mission to card Fastitiocalon-Fs for AP and no EXP, and, I also play a lot of card games so I can get nice magic such as Tornado early (one Abyss Worm->one Windmill->20 Tornados). Later in the game when you would normally have good junctions and spells, GFs stop being an advantage, however (just my opinion).

i used it all the time, rinoa was my black mage, while selphy was my storm mage and quistis was my fire battle mage, squal was time mage and irvin and zell were fighters!

Nahh, I never really used the magic... I was to focused on getting 100 of everything so that I could equip my people and make them better. I think I used items more then magic... I more relayed on my character's power more then magic. And when I did use magic I just restocked on my leftovers XD.

I guess the amount of magic used really changes through the game. I used a fair ammount of Auras and Meltdowns on certain dificult bosses...apart from that i used a lot of magic in the begining, but not so much throughout the rest of the game.

I basically never used magic, or GFs. If you stock up on the really good junctioning magics you hardly ever need to use any attacking ones, although healing ones could be useful. That and Holy War, this proved invaluable for a certain fight in the final area. But for most of the game I relied on close combat alone, as once you refine the cards you can win at the start of the game, you do get a large advantage over the first enemies you face, and it is possible to expand your stock of magic from there in order to power up your characters. :D

Curative and maybe sometimes Aura I would use. Those are about the only two spells I would ever use. All other spells I would use for stats or would just sit there wasting space. I remember near the end of the game I would go from the Island Closest to Hell to the Island Closest to Heaven drawing all the best spells and sometimes use them.
