[V2] Last Movie You've Seen

so i put off seeing Warrior for a couple of years

i kind of feel like i should regret it, but the timing was good, it worked out and i really enjoyed it. i think it is really the first time that i have enjoyed a film that much in years. i don't feel like saying why it was great, it just was.

i see a lot of people saying it is a guy and girl kind of movie in their reviews, but i am not so sure. but it was good. anyone who says it wasn't good is full of shit. that's how good it is, it's so good that i can make a sweeping generalization against a group of people i don't like just because they disgaree with a single statement i've made and genuinely believe that they are 100% retarded :monster:

as always, don't go in expecting something someone has recommended with the expectation that it will be the best thing ever, but i enjoyed the film thoroughly. it was great.

I went off and watched a random film on Netflix yesterday: Exam.

It's a thriller where 10(?) job applicants are put into a room with a couple of rules given to them. If they break the rules then they are taken out of the room and don't get the job. It sounds lame (and it kinda is...I was expecting them to be killed off or something), but there are a few twists and turns throughout that make it a bit more interesting.

It's incredibly slow though, and some of the ideas are so slowly shown to the viewer (such as the idea of light being used on paper near the start). It's not a perfect film by a long shot. It'd still be a good watch though, if only to experience something a bit different from the big, over-hyped films that are being chucked around.

6/10, but still worth watching if you're bored of the majority of modern films.

Went and saw Hansel and Gretel with hunters last night. I must say the movie should be witch slayers, not hunters. For hunting implies the chance of failure and something living. All in all it was a good movie, much better then I was expecting, deffenitly a much darker tone to it's fairy tale version. It earned it's R rating for sure. Also there wasn't a lot of talking where it was were doing nothing and kinda sitting ina stale state. The plot and movie kept moving forward, so that's always a plus.

Taken 2

Good film. As i already knew it wasn't nearly as good as the original but was still a worthy sequel i think.
The first film has brilliant structure to the story. His daughter is kidnapped at the start and you follow his journey to rescue her from the beginning. Its great seeing how he goes about finding her and how he uses all his resources to get closer. The structure of the film worked so well and its capped off perfectly. Taken 2 lacked that story structure. The pace kinda goes from calm when hes with his ex wife and daughter then picks up once the enemy comes after him then slows down after hes caught. Then his daughter saves him which i thought felt a bit too out there and wild, i was just waiting for the moment hes released so that he can go on his badass rampage and catch the baddies who have his wife.
The thing is though that by this time hes free and going after his ex wife your already 2/3 into the film so there isnt as much Liam Neeson badass time as i wanted. Its all over before you know it. In comparison to the first film it also felt quite tame. The violence was nowhere near as hardcore as the first film even though i watched the harder extended cut and not the theatrical version i thought it was still fairly tame. Some of the fight scenes suffered from too many switching camera angles that it felt hard to really see what was going on. That for me was the biggest let down of the film, the fight scenes being hard to see.
The car chase was really good and quite realistic to me. It wasn't the most epic car chase but because his daughter wasn't a hardcore security agent it made sense for her driving to be a bit rough.

Besides everything ive just said it is a good film and definitely worth watching. By no means as good as the original but definitely a worthy sequel that i really enjoyed :ryan:

i thought taken 2 was a decent sequel, but it definitely suffered for it's tamer certificate. i haven't seen the extended cut yet, but i doubt it will drastically change my opinion of it. i found having his daughter do most of the big stuff a little boring as well. maggie grace isn't a suitable replacement for liam neeson :wacky:

i watched stoker yesterday, it's one of the few films i've paid to see in the last 18 months. it was a really good but twisted family drama about a girl (india) who's dad dies and then her uncle, of who she has had no previous knowledge, comes to live with her and her mother. uncle charlie is a bit dark and creepy, and the film is about india's and uncle charlie's relationship. it was directed by chan-wook park, who directed oldboy and is his first english language film, so it's being getting a lot of interest through that alone. it was also written by, amazingly, wentworth miller (michael scofield in prison break) and i was really surprised at how good of a job he did. it was also scored by clint mansell, who did requiem for a dream which is one of my favourite film scores. i'm not sure who the cinematographer was, but it was pretty amazing visually too.
it got an 18 certificate, and i'm not entirely sure why. i think it's probably because of the really serious underlying current to the whole film that is only ever really subtly touched upon but never explicitly shown that did it, because the content on screen isn't all that challenging. there's a bit of blood in the final scene, and a scene in the shower when india gets herself off to a murder but other than that it's relatively tame. all three of the main cast were great in their roles, which helped drive the characters on through the story.

Movie: Housos Vs Authority

Comments:
Love the TV series and the movie was just as awesome. :ryan:

It's basically about a bunch of housos/bogans who hate authority and go visit Uluru (Ayers Rock) and deface it with graffiti etc.

It's pretty funny. Can't wait for Season 2 to come out.

The only thing I missed about it was Kylie wasn't in it. I don't know the full story but she was killed off in Season 1 for some reason.
It's so hard to find any information on what actually happened but from what I've seen she left on bad terms. I don't think she was treated very nicely or something.

Peter and I watched The Hunger Games yesterday, which was fairly good. It reminded me a lot of 1984! ;) I haven't yet read the books, so this could be an unfair judgment, but I am not 100% sure it's worth the hype. :sad3: It's good, yes, but does lack originality. :hmmm:

The acting itself was rather good though and I did enjoy the overall design of the setting, costumes and make-up. :)

We watched Hugo last night. It's a family movie about a kid who loses his dad, is orphaned, and lives in a clock tower :( The plot was pretty decent, but I think the movie really shined with it's actors and cinematics. Some of the scenes were just sooooo pretty and at one point I cried. I recognized a lot of actors in the movie from other movies, namely Harry Potter and Star Wars :lew: If you like family movies, watch this.

Movie: The Help

Comments:
I love these sort of movies.

It was about coloured people back when they were meant to be maids/slaves and how they pretty much raised the white children for the people they worked for because they were the only ones around.

They sacrificed raising their own children to go to work for white people and maintain their household and children because they couldn't afford not too. :sad3:

Emma Stone was in this too. Good movie. Funny and sad. >.<

Watched the horror movie "Hold your Breath" from 2012 yesterday. It was the Asylums first ever theatrical release (don't know if anyone will know who they are).

Either way, it's a movie about a couple of teenagers out in the woods that get possesed by this old serial killer. Don't even know why I watched it, needless to say it was pretty horrible. Then again I'm not a very big horror fan in general. Stay away from this thing would be my advice.

I watched Django Unchained last night. Violent, 'Western' and starring Christoph Waltz. What's not to love?

There's an awesome scene in it where Dicaprio smashes his hand down on a table, but unknowingly slices his hand open on a little sherry glass. Instead of stopping in the middle of the scene he carries on and even uses his blood as an extra prop by smearing it all over one of the actresses faces. Pretty intense.

We Need to Talk about Kevin

Loooooooooved it. It's so intense, It starts off really slow but it gives you enough little hints at things to keep you interested until it gets to a faster pace. I think it's a really good movie adaptation of a book and I'm looking to buy the DVD soon.

It's pretty much about a mother who gives birth to a child she doesn't want and how their relationship forms the way her son turns out. It's very good, everyone should watch it!

harry potter and the order of the phoenix
i still think the films are pretty poor adaptations. even though they're all over two hours, they still come across as being quite rushed. they try to force the key points a little too much and don't focus enough on characters and their development. if you haven't read the books, the films must be absolutely awful because they expect the audience to already have a good knowledge of the story. plus they're quite poorly directed, and the excellent actors like maggie smith and alan rickman aren't as great as they usually are

Olympus Has Fallen

We went to see this last weekend when it came out. As far as the plot goes, I was pretty much like ugh I really hope our US top officals and president aren't really this stupid :damon:...but generally speaking, everything seemed really plausible and thought out. The acting was for the most part well done...and I especially liked Morgan Freeman and Gerard Butler in it. Gerard was a full on commando and basically kicked ass from the beginning of the movie until the end :ohoho:

What I really liked about the movie were the special effects and action sequences though. They were so incredibly real and the weapons that were exhibited in the movie just made me stop and go "wow" at some points.

If you are into action flicks and don't care if the movie doesn't have a ludicrously deep plot then I think you'd like this.

A Prophet.

It's a French gangster movie set in a prison in France. It's about how an Arab guy arrives in jail and in basically his first week has to kill a snitch who just arrived. The ones who get him to commit the murder are Corsican gangsters, and in return they protect him and he kind of becomes part of their mob, but they all hate him because he is an Arab, and all the other Muslim and Arab inmates hate him for working with the Corsicans.
It very good because of the way it depicts prison, as a testosterone fueled place where the only constant is violence.

evil dead

as in the new one. it stayed quite faithful to the originals, and had a few nice little references to them. it's pretty much what the original would have been if they had access to modern resources. it plays less on the cheesy side and focuses a little more on the serious. thankfully it got an 18 certificate, and was gory as hell, but on the flip side of that, a lot of the story got lost in the bloodiness of it, but since evil dead is all about that kind of thing i didn't care too much. there's also a fantastic stinger at the end of the credits. i don't know if it's trying to set up a sequel or not, but i loved it all the same.

The Dark Knight Rises.

This movie was amazing. The actors were great, my only problem is with robin. He was in the circus with his parents, not a cop. Other than that, The movie was awesome.
