Vanille and Fang

Wow I didn't know this, and I thought I knew a lot about FFXIII. It does make sense. I thought they acted very sisterly during the whole game and thought what some refer to as lesbian vibes was just a "love" of family since they were basically each others family. I think I would care for someone a little bit after going through a completely crap existance for a good 100+ years with only them as an accomplice. It helps to have someone go through those crap times with and rely on them for a degree of comfort/acceptance.

It even makes the alleged fang "boob grab" that so many people made a huge stink about make sense because if that were a guy Vanille was hugging her hand would've fallen much lower on his body. Guess they forgot to re-edit that part. :wacky:

I heard about the "Fang origionally being male" thing aaages ago, and if that's the truth then i'm SO glad they decided to make her Female!
In previous FF games, most of the Females were kinda "girly" and physically weak in battles. FF13 however made a long awaited change by introducing strong minded and physically strong Female characters (such as Lightning & Fang) which I absolutely love about the game.[/quote]

Faris? Quistis? Yuffie? Celes? Freya? Ashe? Fran? Beatrix?

As for the relationship between Fang and Vanille. I just saw it as a sisterly relationship and never saw anything beyond that.

There would be one problem that I would have if Fang and Vanille were an item and it's that Vanille looks like a 12 year old. I had to keep reminding myself through the game that she was 19. And that would just make their relationship more creepy to me.

I would prefer LightningxFang

But I have the same problem with Snow and Serah. Serah looks like she's ten years old and that makes Snow look like a Pedo.

As for Fang being a male. I wouldn't have cared either way.

As I mentioned, most of the other Females in previous FF games were either physically weak in battle or too "girly", which in my opinion describes your choices above. Ashe is probably the closest you get to Lightning out of all those. However I still found her kinda "girly" at times.....not saying theres anything wrong with that but it does make a change to have a strong minded/physically strong non-girly-without-being-too-butch female lead!

Faris was not girly or physically weak. She ran her own pirate fleet before joining with the other party members. The other characters thought she was a man at first. She's probably the most masculine female in the series (Even moreso than Fang). Her job depends on which ever you assign her too. So you could make her a warrior. And she was the physically strongest character of the party and Wiki states that she is the only female member to be the physically strongest in a co-ed party. (though I don't know how this holds up now that XIII is released)

Yuffie was also niether. I do not see how Freya, Fran, and Beatrix were in any way girly either.

We could probably add Refia to the list too. Before joining the party in III, she worked with her father as a blacksmith. She was never once captured in the game, and, since III had the job system, you could make her a warrior or a monk.

And of course, I forgot Paine, who is actually probably more manly than Faris XD. Her "default" job is warrior. As ridiculous as X2 was, we still have to count her.

Though what do you mean by girly? Lightning did not seem at all girly to me. And isn't it good to have a female character that is strong but does not take on male roles? To me, masculine strong females seems to mean that in order for a female character to be strong, she must behave more like a man than a woman.

I obviously haven't explained myself too well, or you didn't read my post properly!! I never said Lightning was girly at all. And yes it is good that a female character can be strong and not take on a male role, that was the point I was making in the first place.

I've been seeing a lot of people talking about this subject recently...and until someone mentioned it,I really just thought it was a sisterly bond.they come from the same village, find out everyone they knew were dead,it's no wonder that they'll care for each other a lot.even after seeing the boob-touching and skirt-lifting,I didnt really sense romance...
I think Fang is better off as a girl.FFXIII gave us independent,strong-willed and badass women(Lightning,Fang) and I wouldnt want them to change that.

The thing your forgetting is girls in the past FF series had a relationship with a guy..........and even though Vanille was a gurl girl and Lightning and Fang were badasses.........none of them were that bothered about love.

I'd say Beatrix is as close you'd get to Lightning.......Both emotionless........(up until the Steiner/Beatrix ramance thing)

Fran as close you'd get to Fang.........Both seem to be strong

And Rikku as close you'd get to Vanille.....they are both cheery and friendly...(but in my opinion Vanille worser)

There is no "love" involved, as family type bond but as an actual lesbian relationship, no. That article does say Fang was originally male, no arguments there but chances are the concept design was changed before the project fully got going otherwise they'd have to change every scene with Lightning in it to take some of the looks away and change every scene to make Fang a female. It just seems highly unlikely they got got midway into developing and suddenly decided to change.

Just a quick question here: you think Fang would be as strong ha she not turned into Ragnarok?

Because she is not just the strongest Character, she is the strongest by a huge stat difference of about 300 STR points.......an given that traditionally that role went to males combatants in FF games, did they use it as a reason to advance her ahead of Snow?

Some were. However, Faris, Yuffie (unless your a YuffiexVincent shipper, but that is fannon and a bit gross for me), and Fran were not. And several other characters from past FF games weren't. Terra (not with a man, Rydia (Edge flirted with her but she did not seem to reciprocate), Selphie (Irivne flirted with her but like Rydia, she did not seem to reciprocate), Lenna, and Refia. And Ashe, though her husband was dead, was not persuing another man through the game. Freya, took on a reverse role and searched for her man as opposed to the other way around. In X, Lulu was not concerned with any man and neither was Rikku. That did change in X2, but Lulu waited till after their mission to start anything with Wakka.

And there were hints of VanillexHope. (Vanille: When you're older) And if FangxVanille is canon, then they are both concerned with love.

The only characters that are usually involved in romance are the main guy and girl. But then both genders are involved. (With the exception of V, VI, XIII, and to an extent XII) There is sometimes the romance between other characters. (Steiner and Beatrix)

Ok, I'll stop with this thread now =P

Well you see Shadow they have thses thing called brands and if they dont get there asses moving they will turn into Ceith buddy, so they have no real time for falling in love

They explain in the game that people from Oerba treat there own like family. So Fang is like Vanilles big sister. If they are in 'cahoots' then they are going to hell.

Fang has a bigger cock than Snow.

And no, not lesbian lovers. Best friends living 500 years in the future would do it for me.

It makes more sense that Fang is a girl than guy. For instance if a guy just simply flipped Vanille's skirt up in public to check on her mark that would be kinda...inappropriate.

Split Infinity has a crush on Fang...

a poster on another forum says Fang looks like his mother looked when she was younger...

so Fang is definitely not masculine...and definitely not butch/lesbian.

The sisters thing is the only thing that makes sense.

Other than Snow and Serah no hint of romance in this game.
When FFXII came out some of its defenders said they liked the fact there was no romance in it..
Athough there apparently was romance between Vaan and Penelo in Revenant Wings, a much maligned game I haven't played that doesn't seem very popular.
So most people have I feel gotten use to a lack of romance between characters in the games.

Wasn't implying Fang is physically butch, shes got quite a feminine appearance. as far as personality goes she has more balls than any of the other characters, which is why shes my favourite character in the game tbh.

Yes this makes perfect sense....I always had this feeling that they were going to kiss and start a lesbian moment everytime they start talking, fang is definately one hot female but she has all of the male perspective and attributes while vanille looks to be this helpless silly girl.

They must be in love! And if that is not the reason than I will live a life bound to a lie just because it is an "awesome" lie.
