Seriously, why did anyone think that was a good idea? And what is the purpose of them? To make vampires the good guys? If they were good, they'd let them selves die and choose not to suck blood.

And why are vegetarian vampires becoming so popular? I just saw a commercial for these monster dolls and the vampire one was a vegan vampire <.<

Apparently the lore for a "vegetarian vampire" is that they have gold eyes instead of burgandy :O

(And isn't a vampires food source not so much the blood but the person's soul?)

... What on earth is a vegetarian vampire? D: Are those Vampires that feast on animal blood instead of human blood? Because that's hardly better :lew: They were probably created so they have the whole sex appeal, without being hampered by the whole they-really-want-to-kill-you-and-eat-you thing. :hmmm:

Stupid concept though, but, Vampires have been bastardized so much lately, it doesn't surprise me :ffs:

Well, the first I heard about the vegetarian vampires being used was in Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Angel. He drank pig's blood because he didn't want to taste human blood and become a killer. I kind of like the concept as long as there are the traditional vampires that still drink human blood.

I'm going to say this right now: This, is fucking stupid. First off, why does Hollywood continue to fuck up vampire movies badly? It is really so hard to pull off a decent vampire film? The lore is there, just apply it into cinema, why do they have to put in this unnecessary bullshit?

About the whole "Vegetarian" vampire thing. The Vampires that choose to drink animal blood instead of human blood can suck it (no pun intended) I don't buy for a single minute that these vampires are genuinely different from other vampires, just because. What do they see in humans when they're a part of a far more superior race? What drives them to be this compassionate and empathetic towards humans? and if they're so goddamn powerful, why don't they try to establish a greater position in the world they're in? instead owning bars, businesses and carry out their politics in shabby little allies or construction sites? (referring to True Blood).

This whole Vampire romance crap is crap, and this whole 'Vampire with a human conscience' is even more crap. Next time they're going to make a movie or TV show with Nazi Skynet zombies that just want to do community service because they've found a new meaningful hope in mankind.

...OH and they fall in love with all the Jennifers and Julias

/end rant

OH MY GOD! I SAW THAT COMMERCIAL TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was so disappointed when I saw that, her animation was all "I'm vegetarian."

Now honestly I don't know if it' a trend or not because I haven't really seen vegan vamps around as much these days. But since it's being marketed to kids.....it might pop into a trend. I don't know though, the vegan vamp thing has been done before with another series a long while ago and I think that series sucked azz so.....XD

I wouldn’t call vampires who don’t drink human blood vegetarians if they still drink the blood of other animals, or find some other means to get their blood. When someone mentions a vegetarian vampire to me I have a horrifying image of a teenage Dracula sucking a cucumber. :ness:!

I don’t think that all vampires who struggle with their vampirism, and attempt to control it, are necessarily lame. Vegetarian vampires would beat the purpose of being a vampire, undoubtedly, but a human who has been bitten and transformed into a vampire who retains his humanity, and hence wants to control his need for fresh blood isn’t instantly doomed to be a bad character.

Some of the Marvel vampires / vampire hunters and on-off vampires are pretty badass, but do not always kill to feed. The vampire detective Hannibal King, for example, refuses to take innocent lives (he’s only killed a few people I believe), and he feeds through draining the blood of corpses, and taking blood from blood banks. He’s a good guy, and he spends his time investigating the supernatural and fighting other vampires and fiends, but he does struggle with his condition. All of this is without being regarded as depressed, weak or puny like vampires who aren’t evil get nowadays from people. I’d therefore blame the writers more than the concept itself of a good vampire.

So we can feel sorry for the plights of some vampire characters, and not all good vampires are naff in my opinion. I agree though that most of the time evil badass vampires are the most entertaining, but I think that a balance can also be good.

Vegetarian vampires, however, are a ridiculous idea. They’re not vampires if they don’t even suck blood. They wouldn’t live for very long anyway. A vampire turning into a vegetarian would surely be to commit suicide.

It’s sad what vampires have to put up with these days: suffering horrible deaths by broccoli and the love of a teenage girl.

Yeah I don't mind if a vampire is struggling with their condition. That could actually make a very interesting story. I just wish they'd do it with out trying to make them seem innocent. Like do it Death Note esque where one justifies his drinking of human blood by drinking and killing the blood of criminals or those that cause trouble for other people.

Seriously, how about vegetarian Zombies? Vegetarian werewolves (Though Halloween town did this poorly) Werewolves that are not viscious animals but cute anamorphic humans. Demons that just want to help people...

yeah most of those are stupid concepts

EDIT: 3000th post!

I've always known about the concept of vegetarian vampires because my favourite cartoon as a kid was Count Duckula.

It makes no sense, outside of a kids' cartoon where the main character is a duck, because the whole point of vamps was the biting and the blood sucking- it's quite a sexual myth, vamps have always been seen in a sexual light (previous cartoon featuring David Jason not included)

Dear Lord, this is pretty funny :D

Anyway, I've never heard of a vegetarian vampire. I know for sure that Gangrel is NOT a vegetarian. At least on TV he wasn't. I don't wanna know what he did once he left the arena.

I mean, I guess these are/were cool. It's a vampire alternative. Eventually you'll get tired of the same vampire stories, so now you can read one about a vampire eating a vegetable. Yay?
