I don't know, Golbez. Kefka is definitely powerful, but he's never really done anything terribly impressive compared to a lot of the other villains. His magical potential might be through the roof, but physically speaking, he's actually shown himself to be pretty weak. Yes, he has wings, but the question is whether or not he's fast enough to effectively use them against Sephiroth, who has been shown to fly at incredibly fast speeds while maneuvering around attacks. Plus the creators have basically stated that he (Sephiroth) is capable of moving at speeds at least equal to that of Chaos Vincent and Omega Weiss, meaning he can travel faster than the eye can follow. Something tells me Kefka would have trouble avoiding him consistently, even if he can fly.

Besides, Sephiroth has caused some trouble himself. Kefka has Goner, but Sephiroth has Heartless Angel, which I'm pretty sure does exactly the same thing. Sephy also managed to hold back Holy- the ultimate White Magic- through sheer force of will alone. Even then, he still had enough strength to fight against Cloud's party. He was able to reconstruct his body with his mind and, in his strongest incarnation (Advent Children Sephiroth), is officially the most powerful being in the Final Fantasy VII universe, which includes Chaos and Omega. Of course I realize that Sephiroth is far from the strongest Final Fantasy villain (that would probably go to Trance Kuja and Time Compression Ultimecia), but he far outclasses Kefka.

And, if you want to put them against one another in their basic human forms, then...I hate to say it, but you're actually just hurting yourself. Kefka's base form is nothing short of pathetic. Yeah, he took out Leo, but he was just a normal human. I'm guessing Terra could've beaten Kefka one-on-one in his basic form. Sephiroth's base form, meanwhile, is still pretty damn strong. Even before taking that refreshing dip in the Lifestream, he was the best of the best; ShinRa's pride and joy. He took out a dragon with a single swing of his sword, is still pretty fast, strong, etc.

But yes, Pre-Nibelheim Sephiroth and Kefka would both be flattened by Sin.

Kefka was also the best of the best in FFVI; while he was seen to be taking orders from Leo (before he poisoned the river), he managed to kill him with no effort whatsoever. It's probably not worth mentioning, but he killed the emperor as well (an old man, yes).
He did have the power to forcefully take control of the Espers, demigods, without taking a scratch.

Please bear in mind, I know full well that Sephiroth is stronger than Kefka, I'm not arguing with you on that point. I'm merely saying he's a lot stronger than people think... if only they'd made the final boss harder in the game.

Methinks Sin has a higher chance of winning... Well, the best attack is just to collaspe on the opponent, wouldn't it?

I suppose he was pretty strong as far as normal individuals go, considering he was able to easily defeat General Leo, who was stated to be an incredibly strong fighter despite his lack of Magic. What confuses me, though, is how he took control of the Espers. The party didn't really seem to have much trouble with Kefka whenever they encountered him. Typically, he just ran away. Now, I know that some of the party members (Terra and Sabin come to mind) are portrayed as superhuman, but I highly doubt they can compare to an entire group of demigods. So I'm not really sure how Kefka managed to pull that one off. I'm not denying that he did it, of course, I'm just saying that it confuses me.

Anyway, I don't think anyone is saying Kefka is weak, at least not in his god form. His Magic is certainly very impressive. It would most certainly have to be, considering he
ended up becoming the source of all Magic.
Kefka's main disadvantage is his physical strength, or lack thereof. Of course, that's typical of most mages in RPG's. After all, they need something to compensate for their massively destructive powers. Kefka definitely has quite a few tricks up his sleeve, most of which would spell certain doom for a normal fighter.

It would be between sin and kefka, I think. sin has his size, but Kefka has
the whole world's magic and 3 gods,
kefka has the better chance of winning.
