So I want to get into playing games like Infamous, Dying Light, Call Of Duty, etc.

Is this genre the kind that I can just jump into? Or is there a universal game that a newb can play to learn the ropes so that he/she can enjoy the experience of these games? They look really fun and I want to get out of my shell of only playing JRPGs and RPGS. I really like how Infamous looks. Everything looks so open and free roam! I'm almost scared and overwhelmed at all the potential of your playable character!

Also games like Skyrim and Dragon Age. My interest for these kinds of games has really grown over the last couple of months. Do they have a good story or is it the whole "be what you want, how you want" aspect that makes them so appealing?

I think FPS games like Call of Duty are pretty simple to pick up and learn. And very easy to,have fun with, but don't expect to be a master over night.

As far as the "sandbox genre" like Skyrim, those you have to realize give you A LOT of freedom, and customization. So you might not get ahold of it as easily.

Infamous... Kinda action/adventure. Simple enough to learn basic controls, but does get tricky.

I'd say just go out and give them a try, never know, might just find them to be really fun, which is what gaming is about, right? :elmo:

Is there a game that you find yourself playing non-stop that is within similarities of the ones that I mentioned?

You are listing a bunch of diverse games that don't belong to a single, unified genre.

I would think that games these days are more accessible than ever - at least the big budget ones that must be accessible, so they can reach a broader audience and garner several more millions in sales. Skyrim may be intimidating for a player not used to open worlds and having comprehensive freedom, but it is still a lot more accessible and straightforward than Morrowind, because the latter required the gamer to figure out points of interest and quest locations themselves, and do actual exploration that had more uses than simple sightseeing.

There's no single game or franchise in mind that serves as a "universal", transitional game. Just pick a game you find interesting and jump in. The standard open world games of late are very straightforward. Quest markers are abound, and despite the world sandbox presented to you, it's still a rather linear affair if you want to get from the beginning of the storyline to the end. If you're wary about games that involve a lot of shooting, you can always crank down the difficulty to easy and practise.

I didn't really like Infamous: Second Son if it is like any of the other games. It felt like playing Saint's Row.

But for a change of pace, I really liked Catherine. It's kind of like puzzle solving on drugs. I had a lot of fun playing it. I also really got blindsided by NBA 2K when I spent a year living with my friends and enjoy playing the games a lot now.
