Water? I mean....that's all I have to say. Why only 1 spell with Water? What happened to Watera and Waterega? -___-. This has to be the most pointless 1 spell I have seen. Why even put it in the game without it's stronger versions?

I was under the impression that the stronger water spells were only available in X and X-2, so XII went back to having just the one Water spell

Maybe I'm wrong, I just seem to remember reading something like this

This, if you play any other FF game with whater in it minus X, (and I think XI) they had only one water spell.

Watera and Waterga were enemy only spells. Aero worked in a similar version. The party got Aero and Aeroga but Aerora was an enemy only spell. Not sure why they did this other than possible License Board constraints.

They did the same thing with FFIX- just 'water'. You use it like once in the game, and then it just becomes a waste of space on your spell menu. I'm guessing they put it in the games simply to account for the elements.

Actually, a reason they probably put it in FFXII is so you can take out those damn fire bomb things early on.

It was a little annoying - same with the fact that there were no Earth spells (only Earth elemental weapons like Mud Shot) despite the fact that tons of enemies had water and earth vulnerabilities.

Then again I'd rather just swing a sword. Berzerk + Masamune = King Bomb can eat my arse.

^ This. Found it rather annoying to see so many Water weaknesses on monsters but no real way to exploit it. Offensive magic really mostly lacked for the characters in this game. Defensive and or "buffing" spells were excellent as were the Curative magic. The monsters seemed to utilize the offensive magic system better than your party. lol

This was something I didn't notice until the end of the game. I would hardly use Magic spells however in any FF game I played and rely mainly on physical attacks, so that's another reason why it hardly bothered me that the Water spell was the lone in its class. Unless I was facing a strongly elemental fire enemy, I would never resort to Water. If anything I would pull out the Ice or Fire spell to take care of my dirty work.

I can only think that Square-Enix found little use for it in this game, or else like Jacqui the Pirate said, they just wanted to get back to how it was in older games.

You technically have access to Waterja by using quickening chains. I think...I know there's at least one -ja spell that has bubbles and water effects.
