To this day, I've never been able to understand a recurring theme in the early stages of Crisis Core:

Why does Angeal always insist on fighting Zack? He talks about his SOLDIER honour and my only guess is that he wants to die as a man and not a monster but, at the same time...just let Zack kill you, or kill yourself. Don't go picking fights with me, you FOOL.

Similarly, with Genesis...why flee in the first place? Why not stay with Shinra and get the help you claim to need? Hollander was still in the vicinity...WHY disappear, WHY attack relentlessly?

I can't get my head around it for the life of me.

it's simple. Without some sort of pointless conflict in the ff games, the game sucks. Really, they can just come up with any bull crap answer they want to cover the plot holes anyway, but yeah, you're right.

Why is it that the badguys/anti-heros always do stuff that makes no sense? like for example, if Sephiroth really wanted the black materia in FFVII why didn't he just send one of his copies to solve the riddles instead of taking it from cloud after cait sith kills himself? Mind control? Is that the best friggin excuse? Jeez man, no one in the final fantasy universe thinks logically.

Hell, why did zack just stand around and get shot at in the end of crisis core. No, there is no "but there were so many" escuse. LOOK at what he kills in the game!!!!

It just makes no sense.

But I wouldn't love the japanese creativity if it made sense. The reason it is so cool is because they think about what the collest thing is first then think of the story later. Besides, I don't think George Lucas really thought about the story too much (despite what he says, cuz his scripts are teh crap) when he made star wars.

But riddle me this:

Why do all of the major badguys in the ff series (primarily kuja and sephiroth) look so damn feminine? Sometimes I can't imagine them wielding power to destroy the universe, and then an image pops into my mind of them wearing sexy lingere (I mean, kuja practically did!)

But about angeal? I think the real reason is that he was so sick of saving zack's ass all the time back in the day that now he just wants to kill him! Too bad he... you know. I don't wanna spoil it for anyone.

Well I think them Shinra 1st class just like enjoy fighting. Plus they were going against Shinra and thats who Zack worked for. So fightng was expected. Its also in the story that they were both kinda bent after the cloning had begun. Wasn't Angeal responsible for the death of his own mother? So yeah if they'd kill thier own family, whats gonna stop them from trying to kill Zack?

In the end I think angeal redeemed himself and Genisis found salvation (maybe. we don't know what happened after the ending of Dirge of Cerberus). i think genisis and angeal were afraid and trying to run away from shinra.

My opinion on why angeal faught was because he considered himself a monster and to him that's what monsters did. As for Genesis, he hated shinra. Why get help from something you despise. He left and went looking for an answer on his own. While he did that he waged war on the company to try and bring it down. I don't think they're pointless conflicts. If you think about it it makes alot of sense.

Angeal regarded SOLDIER as monsters, as well as himself, he really only sought a way to die fighting, but without holding back.

Genisis, all he did eventually cuminated in his re-enactment of LOVELESS. Before weiss and nero took him away to keep him alive so he could return before they made this game. >_<

i think the reason Angeal fought Zack to die was to perserve his honor, suicide is considered honorless in a lot of societies, and running from Hollander isnt what he was really doing, it was more running from himself...at least thats what i think.

i also think that angeal ran because he knew he would never find the gift of the goddess and stop the degrading.

Angeal was never seeking the gift of the goddess. Genesis was...and Angeal's mother committed suicide, this is revealed in Modeoheim in the cutscene before you fight Angeal. Honestly, I think Angeal went against ShinRa because of the fact that he says himself for Zack to join his battle against everything that brings about pain...in the end, Angeal wanted Zack to end his life because he felt that it would have been truly honorable to die by the hand of his own apprentice. Moreover, I also think that he plannd these events because Genesis twisted Angeal's mind into thinking he was a monster, and Angeal felt, in the end, that he could not live that kind of existence...thus leading to his own destruction.

I also feel that his mind was in pieces. And he was still wanting to keep hold of his honor. So in fighting Zack he would die with honour.

Even after death he keeps his honour with the Angeal copy looking out for Aerith.

As for Zack gettin pwnd at the end of the game. Even if he is a 1st class, eventually he's going to get tired. I loved the way they depicted the events rather than in the original where we dont see much. Taking on pretty much an Army...he also dies with honour.

All thats left now is for emo ass bitch Cloud to die with some honour and give Marlene the Buster sword

lol...let's hope that doesn't happen. Well, Angeal's mind was basically in pieces, and his thoughts were scattered everywhere. However strong minded he may be, at that point, he had lost all of that wisdom. It's pretty ironic isn't it, how one can be pictured as a strong minded individual full of strength, knowledge, and wisdom...and in the end ends up dead because of Genesis constantly burdening him with these thoughts.

Well... I think he wanted revenge on Genesis, but he told Zack to fight.
But after he thought about it and then he said he should of been the one that finished Genesis Off. So he was angry about that so he wanted to finish Zack off but Angeal knew he was a monster thats why all of his copies came all over him, them he turned into that monster. But when Zack defeates him he hands over the Buster Sword to Zack.Maybe he handed it over because he wanted Zack to Defeat Genesis?,
and we all saw how close Zack was to Angeal hence the Phrase...
"Embrace Your Dreams, and, whatever happens, protect your SOLDIER Honor"
Since he said that After you defeat Angeal.

Touching isnt it?

ok lets just say this, angeal was actually not trying to pick a fight in my opinion, he just wanted zack to be the one to kill him and if he believes in honour suicide is out of the question because there isnt any honour in killing yourself. and he was actually good because if you recall in the game, angeal helped carry zack to the shinra builind and an angeal copy protected Aerith in the church from the weapon the turks where using, i might have this a bit wrong cause i have seen it in awhile but i think thats what i remember. but i know it was gensis who was going for the power of the godess , not angeal.

Angeal was a very stubborn man.
It seems to me like he would defy all logic if it meant protecting his honor, and really that serves Zack, because I don't think he could handle three Jenova Project rejects wreaking havoc. -.-
Shinra wanted Angeal dead. I don't really think he had any other options available to him, and he would never commit suicide. Also, saying something like "Zack, I have no purpose, kill me please," is completely void of honor also. x3
Angeal was born and bred to fight and wanted to die thusly, at the hands of the only person he felt he could still trust.
