This game looks really good as far as the trailer goes. I never played Final Fantasy XI but I know some main
jobs. Do you think alot of expansions will come out after the games release? Will there be some “main characters“

Well Final Fantasy XI has a staggering 20 jobs, but I am hoping and thinking that Final Fantasy XIV will lower that number to the essentials. 8 to 10 jobs should be enough to cover most playing styles and make sure that the different jobs differ enough from each other to warrant their existence.

I hope to have customization of looks for each class. I've never played 11 but if I get 14 that's what I'd like. I don't like the job classes to look stereotypical like black mage in a cape and is a shadow or is small.

No no, I definitely want 20 or so. Will make group parties online require diversity. I would love it if they truly expanded on the classes and gave each one a TRUE definite unique skill/technique that doesn't have to do with battle. Like a passive-skill persay.

Thing is though, that more classes generally means more balance issues. I'd much rather have a limited number of classes which are all balanced, play worthy, and viable in groups, than I'd 20 classes where half are considered deadweight. And if Square plans on adding PVP content, that's double the pain.

Really hope that the Red Mage class is going to be included.
But you can bet that the common classes like White and Black are going to be included.

20 different Jobs would be pretty awesome. More of a chance to have your favourite class included into the game + a bigger variety/ Won't get bored. ^-^

There is no doubt that the red mage class will be in, from what i imagine, all the basic jobs will definetly be there.

With FFXI alot of the jobs had a superior. parties would prefer a dark knight over a thief. I personally was a Thief so this sucked a bit. Thus i would like to see all the classes have their merits and each being valuable, i stopped playing FFXI when all the enw calsses came in like dancer etc but i cant imagine a class like that getting much party coverage.

so diversity is the key, and some PVP would be nice, perhaps rival nations fighting each other.

EG. you start in Windhurst, everyone in bastok is your enemy, just a thought, but looking from the trailer it looks like alot of battles with airships this could represent PvP.

Personally I would rather fewer jobs but with more varied roles. When you have 8 jobs that fit one "role" sooner or later a superior job is found of the bunch and the other jobs are neglected. I think its definitely possible to achieve diversity from a smaller number of jobs, because it means that those jobs can be more specialised.

as an addict to FFXI I have played all 20 and they all have their roles to fill but I can understand where a few of you are getting mixed up on some of their usablitity becuase they are often used as something they are less suited for but can still do ie "Well theres no X seeking so grab that X" That being said I would like to actually have more jobs than the 20 possible in FFXI becuase while there are a "lot" of options and some repitition in what they do they all have their niche and there is still more things I would like to see a job that can do.

If they do choose to lower the number. They should make certain "builds". Like a warrior-type class. One build would be a ranged warrior, with something like a bow, or a ranged weapon. And a Melee warrior. One with a close-range weapon. Now, I've never played FF11, but I've seen some things. And, I think they'll include those base classes.

I want 20 jobs or more but i do want em balanced and not like FFXI, i want em balanced for solo, party and PvP stuff, i still remember:
------------------------
1 day in brenner:
Player1: haha! eat dirt silly war
Player2: try next time vs my sam/rng

next brenner:
Player1: (silence)
Player2: next
------------------------
or:
party leader asking to others in party: theres a mnk and sam looking for party, which 1 do u want?
all pt members: SAM!
------------------------

another thing: i want cooler AFs in next FFXIV, i never wear my nin, thf, mnk, war AFs in the end cuz i could buy better gear.

And pleeeease keep the job/subjob system! i really love it how i could turn my jobs to be a hardcore DD to a decent survivor solo player, or a faster traveler thf (/whm) etc etc.

For the jobs that i want: ninja and thief are what i want.

I have played FFXI and my favorite class are tarutaru with job WHM . if i have chose in FFXIV , i will be a lalafel and main job WHM / BLM .

I agree... They shouldn't bring "jobs" back, they should introduct builds. Tanks, DPS and magic. Something under 8 or 10 builds, then allow the player to customize his character, Paladin with alot of defensive stats but that excels in white magic instead of uselessly dealign 1 dmg point? YES! Problem with FFXI and its 20 classes is that party leaders and guild leaders will always have preferences and that's why Dark Knights and Ninjas never had party invites at the lower level.

More classes leaves room for unbalance as it was said before, therefor risking a gimpy class. I know that FF11 kind of gave you that aspect of customization, like using WAR/NIN for some tank backup, or SAM/RNG for ranged, but I'd like to see fully customizable classes, that way the one Warrior wont get cheaped out of parties because - who would want that when you can get such better DPS?

I'm posting despite not reading all prior posts so I apologize ahead of time if I somehow sound stupid. As far as Disciplines go I think I'm pretty set on being a Disciple of Hand. As far as class goes I'm not too sure, its really a toss up between the Lallafell the Mi'Qote, and the Hyur Race. I guess if there is no Male Mi'Qote then I wont be choosing that race. I'm not too sure exactly how the Armory/job/class system works, but I know I'm going to want to use archery.

I am hoping that they use many of the job classes that are used in the Tactics series. Since they have stated that they won't be using an experience based leveling system, that will probably mean that the job classes will be based off what the person is wearing, I am going to assume. If that is the truth, then that would further mean that they could ultimately end up having roughly twenty to thirty different jobs. I don't think I would like to see thirty jobs (considering they have, what? -- fifty something?) but I think having twenty or so will be good. The only thing I have a problem wrapping my mind around is this impending leveling system (or lack there of) they want to use. It'll make the game more of a collecting game, I think, because we'll be more concerned about collecting shards and remnants of clothing instead of battling; though I guess there are many ways this could be used. Who knows? Maybe I'm insane.

i would like to see all the job that where in ffxi plus more cuz the more jobs you can do the less ppl will get bored of the game and in ffxi ell 20 jobs had there part in the game though some wouldnt get partys as fast but they all had a role but i most def want to see a Ninja class in there

I would like to see a job called berserker or barbarian for characters that are big and have heavy damaging weapons.I like axes, hammers, big lances, heavy spears, and heavy guns.

I'd like to have at least all the jobs that were in FFXIV and maybe a couple more. I like going through each job and knowing what is best for my play style.
