As title suggest, what features would you like in future FF games? Spin offs included.

For me, i would like more mini games. A Job change system. Great characters that arent tsunderes like Lightning, Cloud , and Squall. More optimistic characters but realistic. Closer approach to Tidus i suppose.

I would like something more action oriented. Something not turnbased. And of course a relatively huge world but not too big.

And multiple bonus and extras...such as optional bosses that you only have one try to beat and if u dont, u cant beat them then you have to start all over or super rare monsters that can only be found certain places.

Characters:
  • A strong female lead again...like Serah, but perhaps more clever and calculating. Make her a bit sinister so the player isn't sure whether or not she's entirely moral!
  • Another balanced male lead, like Noel. :hmmm:
  • Another antagonist you can empathise with like Caius... perhaps we aren't entirely sure whether to empathise with the female protagonist or the male/female antagonist!
  • I've always been fond of characters like Cecil (FFIV) who are torn between their loyalty to a corrupt king and their own personal sense of morality.

Gameplay - Fundamental Features:
  • A large world with an interesting history. Aesthetically, I like it to be quite medeival, but fresh too... I'm thinking something along the lines of FFXII, with some colourful villages like Killika in FFX!
  • A turn-based system like the one in FFX, with a similar levelling up system - and the option to switch characters in and out of battle without missing a turn!

Gameplay - Additional Features:
  • A variety of mini-games... I LOVE the clock puzzles in FFXIII-2. :wacky: I know I am one of few...but we could still have some, couldn't we? :gonk:

I'm liking this thread

- Random, turn-based battles where the characters stand at one side and the enemies at the other
- Characters with specific jobs and personalities that go with the jobs (grumpy/emo black mage etc)
- A world map
- Towns and shops
- Equipment that can be bought like pre-FFX
- FF themed soundtrack (battle themes and world map music similar to those that have been used before...but of course a bit different)
- ATB gauges (preferably like FFX, but not necessarily with the party switching)
- Average graphics (let's see Square focus on something besides graphics for a main game or two)
- A simple story that's well told perhaps. With some plot twists to keep it slightly more fresh
- I'd actually like to see what an upgraded junction system would be like...that'd be interesting. Maybe that wouldn't be too popular though :hmmm:
- Classic leveling system where exp is all that's needed to level up. No crystarium, no sphere grid (although I did enjoy that one), nothing. Just plain levels that take your stats up a bit each level.

That's all I can think of for now :)

I would love to see another battle system equal to FFX one where you can swap characters at any time during battle and you can plan your strategy thoroughly (conditional turn base). I would love to have the classic world map again in hd graphics and environments! That would be freaking badass.

Other than the obvious (a good story)...

Difficulty levels - I like most of the FF games, but lets be honest. They're all really easy. Even with the tweaks and limitations you give yourself. They're still easy. Give us a true Hard Mode. I don't mean give the enemy more HP and hit harder. I want to be forced to strategize against enemies. Not just keep pressing "attack attack attack".

Character customization - The facial features I can deal with. I'm horrible at editing facial molds, but I want the ability to completly edit an outfit. If I want somebody to be a Rainbow colored Valkyrie then give me the option to do so. If I want a Black Mage to be a midget rocking a skullet. Give me that option.

Weapon customization - Similar to what I posted above. Give me some options to play with. I don't want just a plain Katana for a character. Maybe I'd like to add different sword handles, colors, more edges etc.

Story options - Saving the world is getting old. How about giving us the option to play through the game as the villans and actually taking over the world? Or maybe not even an option. Just make a game based on the idea of you playing as a group of Villans trying to accomplish that goal.

Job Classes

Towns and Shops

To be somewhat like what Final Fantasy used to be. I wanna feel like I'm playing Final Fantasy when I'm playing Final Fantasy.

But difficulty, weapons and towns would be the best features to see. If they have towns, I want them to actually feel like a town. If a FF title does not allow me to explore the world it gives even by a bit, then I will not like it or play it. It has to be hard, though I don't really care if its not (I enjoy games like Spyro, so...) and weapons! I want to see lots of weapons and see those weapons actually change on your sprite, and even for armor too.

Another female lead, but not a warrior class. I want to see something different. Perhaps a Monk or a Spear class? A world map too. Mini games/quests! I want to see quests involve puzzles that actually make you think and sometimes if not always, reveal some story background. A world map. Great character depth and history to them and the world we are introduced to--oh, and a world map, if I haven't mentioned it before.

That's all I want.

A world map if they can do it well for the generation of games, or the next generation. A controllable airship. Towns and shops, etc.

I really liked FFX's conditional turned based battle system because of the ability to tag in and out of battle. And I would like to go back to controlling the summons like in FFX. But I would prefer to see a the faster paced ATB system like in FFX-2. I miss being able to control all the characters in my party rather than controlling one while the AI controls the rest of the party.

I like the idea of another lead female protagonist. I was happy with Lightning and her character, but at times she seemed like a female version of Cloud. So I'd like to see something new from their main female protagonist.

Bring back Nobuo Uematsu full time for the soundtrack. I wish he would :/

I would like another love story, it doesn't have to be big or too important to the plot but I think it really helps to make the characters develop and show growth over the course of the game rather still feeling the same at the end of the game as at the start. I like to see a party start out barely knowing each other and grow into a close knit team, which hasn't really happened in recent games and I think it might be because there has been no romance.

A world map. It's not as hard as they make it out to be. Look at Avatar, you could fly around there easy just like the older FF's, there's no reason they couldn't do it with their newer games.

Definitely no character customsations. I've seen it suggested on here but really it's one thing that I love the most about FF games. I hate games where I get to choose what they wear or what they look like, I really do. I feel like I'm not playing as any certain characters, like I've built this toy to travel a world but that there's nothing in that character, it's just an empty body. I hate that. I much prefer getting a character who has been built and modeled to fit their personality, who suit their personalities and make me feel like I'm playing their story.

I'd like some sort of leveling system like FF10 with character roles given but the ability to mix things up if I wanted. A leveling system that gives the player complete choice in where they go with each character.

I liked that in 12 you could battle monsters on the same screen, but I liked being able to control all the characters in previous games.

I would like to see another sphere grid type leveling system. Also, the party formations that X had (being able to swap mid battle without having to go to the main menu screen.

More free roam ability would also be nice. Better BGMs (not that they're bad or anything, just more memorable ones), and characters you could relate to, like Knight said; not emo, but not overly optimistic. A Tidus or Yuna personality would fit just fine. They're happy alot of the time, but they're also frustrated. They aren't entirely depressed for the entire game.

id also like akihiko yoshida to be the main artist. and this may not happen but id like previous ff game s as minigames. i can agree with the memorable soundtrack butnmaybe thats becuz each ff has their own the only memorable ones are the ones that are uses over and over

I want to freaking name the MC like in X and Persona games, this is ROLE PLAYING GAME so i want to fullfil a role in the game not just being an observer that basically doesnt exist in the game universe.

A world map and turn based gameplay would be nice.

Roleplaying games are more foxused on system. Other than that, if we do get to name an ff charaxter it will be difficult to use again if that character appears again in something like itadaki street or something similar to dissidia. Unless he had a specific class like onion knight from ff3 in dissidia. I would like that feature only if we get to choose gender and race. Clothes option maybe but not at the start.

I would also like turm base only if it gets me to strategize. Similar to.sword of mana or crisis core. Monsters imune to certain atacks or have certain weaknesses. Such as bombs immune to fire or goblin punch being the only option to kill a certain monster. But even then i prefer action rpgs more

Not really is like with FFX where you have the character default name and now we have Tidus in Dissidia, even in Persona and suikoden games the character doesnt have a default name but its canon name is depicted in mangas, animes and sometimes sequels (Like in P4 Arena) so it can be done.

The problem is that FF are more akin to movies that games now, thats why i loathe that SquareSoft had to mix with Enix.

But those type of things piss me off. No reason in doing that if it cant be canon. Isaw it pointless for ocarina of time to do that. As for se. I hate the fact that hey habe dumb ppl leading these games. Older develppees should tutor the newer ones. Movie oriented is most likely just toriyama

I really just want a return to the classic style of FF games, much like what FFXI did. I mean part of the reason I've disliked XIII so much is because it felt more like a Star Wars or Metal Gear game to me.

You are playing a role, though. You're playing the role of that character, whether you have to name him or not. He doesn't necessarily make his own decisions since you make them for him, and you control him, that is role playing.

I mean, by that logic, you could also argue that it's not good role-playing because the main character talks and doesn't say what you'd want him to say. Just because it's not "you" doesn't mean it doesn't count as playing a role.

I don't mind either way, but it does get sort of difficult when you name the characters in games that have voice acting, because then the writers have to put in a lot of dodgy references and pronouns and nicknames and whatnot that begin to sound very unnatural.

First role playing mean that you take the role of one character in the universe of that game and that character is you in that game universe, in FF cases since FF4 has been that you control a character not that you are the character wich is basic for True Roleplaying wich FF ditched out since FFXII when they didnt let you name the MC or give you choices whatsoever. In RPGs the character is supposed to be you but in recent FF it had changed that you are supposed to be the character wich is not the definition of ROLE.

A character like Shepard would be great because you choose ANYTHING your character say, unlike newer Ff that dont give you too much options to choose apart from games mechanics, the characters in FF are autonomous and have their own likes and dislikes unlike silent protagonists or Shepard wich let you respond and act however you want.

The problem with JRPGs is that they are so focused in storytelling that ditch out character naming so it doesnt get in the way of the narration and neglecting any ROLE for the player to fullfil, Persona games and Suikoden games have better dialogues than most FF games and they let you name your character.

There is no difference between the MC of lets say FFXIII and XIII-2 to lets say Uncharted Drake, both games feature the same protagonist base where you dont fullfil any Role, you are only the director of what happens to the character and its world, so most jrpgs should dish out the ROLE word and be called PG because of Role there is none whatsoever.

Maybe in the next gen they can add some kind of voice choice for character naming wich could get to better games and the return of TRUE ROLE playing game.

I don't find that that's the definition of role playing at all.

I'm an avid RPer, text-based and D&D style, and the characters whose roles I fill are never "me" in their game world. They're separate from me. They are characters that I play that have their own names, motives, desires, personalities, etc, some completely different from me and even some whose actions I would not approve of. I am not them, I am just controlling them to an extent. But that's still role-playing, because even if it's not "you", you're filling a role. You are becoming that character, that character is not becoming you. I find the same to be true for Final Fantasy.

I think it's rather boring overall to have a character be "you". That defeats the purpose of escapism and fantasy that's presented in RPG. Having the character be "you" is better off in a visual novel.

Apricots correct, Kratoscar incorrect. plain and simple. And even then, i hate the idea of naming a character if its not going to be canon. I would not like that in final fantasy game unless, it was something similar to final fantasy III or ffI in which the defining character is the class (warrior, onion knight). If that happens, then maybe. But with voice acting, it will be annoying as heck.

its jsut not what i look forward to in final fantasy. Maybe in Phantasy star Online, and phantasy Star portable and portable 2. but not final fantasy.

But another aspect i would like for upcoming FF games is, not have toriyama be aprt of it in anyway. Also, i would like to see more yoshitaka amano influenced places. it would be nice. Some extra things. As a completionist as i tend to want to complete things and it would be fun for me if they add some sort of collecting system.
