God in heaven please let Squeenix be smart enough to NOT let "the only one who's not a f***ing retard" in the movie making business get the rights to another Final Fantasy big screen flop!
I've seen Dr. Boll's movies "House of the Dead" and "Doom" all the way through and large parts of "Alone in the Dark" and "Bloodrayne" that more or less gave the entire premise for those movies ("Matrix" action, car chases, sex, gore, sex, infantile dialogue and situations built around sex).
"Doom" was... watchable, but the plot of the game of a portal to Hell seems a lot easier to wrap your head around than the whole extra-super special can turn you into a monster or a badass, depending on a hidden DNA alignment bar, gene and the whole mess with the Rock being the main character but this other guy really is and oh yeah the Rock is actually the big bad!
"House of the Dead" was just infantile and reeked of a lousy frat party gone wrong type of plot. Honestly, it could have been a legitimate cheesy porn movie with the skin and dialogue it had... oh, getting attacked by zombies (to quote the many Paris Hilton parodies) "That's hot." Instead we get a bunch of yuppies turned "Matrix" badasses for no reason whatsoever and not all that flattering clips of the actual game interspersed within these action sequences (but for some they may have been the only good seconds of the movie). Overall I would beg someone to please not watch it.
But I've strayed too far in trying to establish a base of how terrible Dr. Boll is (believe me some of the material people have written on him can be very enlightening, most notably what Boll has said himself like in that Eric Blair article about the "Alone in the Dark" movie). Also, an observation, while "Bloodrayne" and "House of the Dead" may not be super series like let's say Final Fantasy and Halo, millions of people still love those games. So, What's to stop other popular franchises from giving in to Dr. Boll who despite his infamy seems to have his work at first relatively unknown to the owners of these franchises until right after they've signed their souls to him (again Google that Eric Blair article)? After all Squeenix did show willingness for more Final Fantasy cinema with the production of Advent Children (which ranges in reviews from mediocre story and stuck-on depressed characters the only ones in that medium of note being Cloud, Tifa, and Kadaj to TOTALLY FREAKING AWESOME ACTION!!!OMG!!!!!!). Smells like Dr. Boll territory to me.
Gosh, how will Dr. Boll ruin a Final Fantasy movie adaptation (if and/or when he gets the green light trust me he will destroy this series in one omnislashtastic mess of just adapting one of the installments)?
Does Squeenix have even a hint of Dr. Boll aversion? Let's hope so.
Discuss.
